MAC Unsung Heroes: Style Blush

February 26th, 2014 by Karen 16 Comments

MAC Powder Blush in Style
Wearing a single layer of MAC Powder Blush in Style ($21) on my cheeks

I’ve had to do rapid-fire makeup to get out the door and catch appointments two days this week. From start to finish, I’m talkin’ 10, 15 minutes tops.

This pressure cooker of time has led me to MAC Style, a shimmery golden coral Powder Blush in the MAC permanent line.

I picked it up a while back during a stress shopping session (girl, you do it too!) but set it aside when I became totally infatuated with MAC Cantaloupe.

I guess I was just feeling more like matte cheeks and full-on wintery makeup looks for a while there, and Cantaloupe fit the bill. I had a blast layering different highlighters and shimmer products with it, too, but that was when I had enough time to play…

When my schedule doesn’t allow for that and I have to leave the house in a hurry, extra little makeup touches like highlighter usually get cut.

Which is where MAC Style comes in…

MAC Style Blush
MAC Style Blush

A lovely soft coral powder blush with a delicate golden sheen, I think it’s great for getting out the door in a flash. Its moderately pigmented coral base has just enough color to give a nice flush to my cheeks.

It’s not so intense that I have to spend precious breakfast time buffing and blending everything out if I inadvertently over-apply, and it’s easy to control. No exaggeration, but I can get it on my cheeks and be done with blush in less than a minute.

But that’s not my favorite thing about Style. That distinction goes to its fine golden sheen.

Swoon!

While delicate and subtle, it totally takes this blush to the next level for me, transforming it into a hybrid blush/highlighting butterfly, and I smile every time I see a flash of its pearly golden glow.

Not only is Style dynamic, it also shaves a couple steps off my makeup routine.

And the possibilities for layering are endless! Yeah, Style’s great as an everyday blush to get you out the door, but when you do have the time to play and blend, you can do that, too. Sometimes I’ll layer a peach or coral blush underneath it (try Sunbasque, Margin or Orgasm), and sweep Style on my upper cheekbones as a straight-up golden coral highlighter.

Or, if you want to play up the golden shimmer for a more dramatic cheek, layer your favorite high-shine highlighter either beneath or on top of Style on your upper cheekbones.

I’ve worn it with MAC’s Golden Bronzer Iridescent Loose Powder, Hourglass Radiant Ambient and Becca’s Opal, and I think it dances divinely with all manner of warm gold or peachy shimmer.

With winter winding down, I also think that Style will be perfect for spring.

MAC Style Blush
I did this look in 10 minutes. That’s the Hourglass Dune Eyeshadow Duo on my eyes and MAC Fashion Fierce Huggable Lip Color topped with Overindulgence Cremesheen Glass on my lips.

Ya know, if it’s warm enough outside to run errands in sandals and a dress, I don’t want to be wearing heavy makeup or a full face. I’m happy to keep it simple — tinted moisturizer, brows, mascara, under-eye concealer, gloss and a touch of blush. Style will be perfect for casual spring days. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Wow that blush looks great! I always (well, almost..) use MAC Tenderling with a little bit of NARS Orgasm or Sleek Rose Gold on top… looks beautiful on my NC15 skin. Have you tried MAC Tenderling already?

This is gorgeous! Love the gold sheen – in the swatch it looks a bit like theBalm’s Hot Mama.

Karen, I love your mac unsung heroes series! It reminds me that there are so many gems in the perm line and not to stuck on only buying LE. By the way, how are you doing your makeup in 10-15? I find that I take so long because of my foundation steps. Any advice?

      Hi Annette,

Well, sometimes I take much longer than 15 minutes to do my makeup, but for this look I didn’t do a lot of blending and picked colors that I knew wouldn’t take a lot of time to blend. I also didn’t use bronzer or my regular eye primer routine (sometimes I use two eye primers). Today I only used one.

I also had everything I used set out in front of me, set my timer for 15 minutes and worked like a bat out of hell, LOL!

Pretty! These peachy gold shades don’t tend to flatter me as much as cooler ones, but I can most definitely admire them for how beautiful they are 🙂

I’d have to swatch it. It’s a mystery to me how I get away with NARS Orgasm blush but others in the same vein(lol)don’t work. I always hold hope that something warm toned will work for me and about 1% of the time, it does!

This is one of my long time favorites from MAC, and it was one of the first blushes I ever owned. I always bring it back out in the summertime!

I LOVE your MAC Unsung Heroes series! I had never really got into MAC makeup… I had always found the store to be a little intimidating and I typically avoid makeup counters because I like to shop/play alone (I love the setup at Ulta and Sephora). Anyway, my point is that now I know what to look for and try when I go to MAC and finally get why everyone loves it so much! I’ll definitely add Style blush to my list since I’m a sucker for golden coral blushes 🙂

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
