I’m tempting fate whenever I wear lipstick with white clothes, but I like to live on the edge, mwahahahaha!
I’ve been all about the Chanel Rouge Allure Ink liquid lipsticks ($38 each), man. They came out a few years back, and they’re still a fixture in the permanent collection. Thank goodness for that, too, because there’s really nothing else quite like them. They’re like a shy first kiss…and you can crack as many cheesy smiles with them as you want, because the creamy, pigmented formula stays smooth for hours.
PRODUCT
A long-lasting liquid lipstick with a smooth texture that glides on like a gloss and sets with a luminous, velvet-like finish.COMPOSITION
Polymers, waxes and plant oils smooth and nourish lips, while Jojoba Oil and a unique anti-oxidant complex offer hydration and protective benefits. The applicator tip allows for comfortable and easy application. In a provocative range of red-tint shades, from tart pink to deep brown-noir.HOW TO APPLY
Define lip contours then fill in with colour.Source: chanel.com
The soft velvet matte finish is also softer and less “aggro” than your typical liquid lippie, which I think makes them perfect for casual summer makeup. Lately, I’ve been bouncing between warm pink Amoureaux and two bright reds — berry red Luxuriant and bluish red Choquant. There are 20 colors to choose from, and I want all of ’em.
Hey, Mr. D.J.!
Science really needs to figure out how to tap into the part of the brain that can remember song lyrics from 20 years ago with startling clarity, because when Connor and I were at DSW the other day, Hey Mr. DJ started playing over the store speakers, and I was singing along without skipping a beat.
Remember when the first few bars of this song would play in the club and everyone would lose their damn mind?? In the alternate reality that is the musical version of my life, everyone in the DSW would have dropped whatever shoes they were trying on and danced in the aisles, ha ha ha!
Speaking of blasts from the past…
I spotted ube ice cream in the frozen section at TJ’s last week!
Ube, also known as taro root, is a purple yam (Hawaiians make poi out of it), and when I was growing up, my parents would buy ube ice cream for us at the small Filipino grocery store in our town… I think it tastes like a combination of vanilla and cashews. The taste of my childhood!
Some ube ice creams are sweeter than others, and the Trader Joe’s one isn’t as sweet as some, which I like. I paced myself and ate the pint over the course of three days, but I could’ve easily finished it in one sitting with a spoon and a Reese Witherspoon movie.
Oh, Reese!
Somebody call out the trumpets, because I’m on my way to accomplishing my life goal of watching every Reese Witherspoon movie ever made. There are the ones I can watch over and over again (Legally Blonde, The Man in the Moon) and then the ones like Home Again, a silly (but watchable) movie about a divorced mom of two girls who’s starting her life over in Los Angeles.
I didn’t know anything about this movie going into it, and I wanted to like it because I’m all for a 40-something hottie getting her groove on with a hunky younger dude, but there was something very off about the characters… I just didn’t believe any of them would actually say the things they did.
Nevertheless, it’s still watchable if you want something that requires absolutely no brain power. Save it for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

No surprise that those Chanel lippies are gorgeous. I’m disappointed that a flash mob didn’t break out for you in DSW. HAHA! I’ve only had taro chips and thought they were tasty. I never had poi in Hawaii (or anywhere else) and have not had Ube ice cream. Sounds yummy, though!
Karen says
Haha, me too.
So I’ve had poi a couple times before, and it’s an acquired taste, me thinks. It tasted sour and I didn’t like the texture. But if you ever have a chance just try it for fun to say you did.
Oh, and ube ice cream tastes nothing like it! If you ever get the chance please give it a try. Here’s the brand we used to eat growing up:

My faves are ube, avocado and buko pandan.

I’m making a note now! I’ve heard that about poi, too. I would have definitely tried it if we’d have had time for a luau. Next time! I’m just about to load the stretch you recommended for your arches. I find that over the past few weeks, my achilles and arches feel tight. It’s the first time ever and strangely uncomfortable. I hope the stretch will help me, too!

Amoureaux looks like a perfect nude. I am half latina so I have olive skin and have the hardest time finding a good nude that is not too light. I will have to check this one out. I loved Hey, Mr. D.J. and enjoyed rocking out to it this morning! Now I will have to find a 90’s RnB mix on Spotify to listen to. As for Ube you lost me there! I tried Poi in Kauai and just could not do it. Maybe the ice cream is better but I will take your word for it. LOL. Give me some lumpia though and I am all over that. As for Reese, I love her as well. She just seems like someone you could be friends with. Her and Jennifer Gardner. Have you watched Big Little Lies? I have heard good things about it but have yet to delve in to it.
Karen says
Hi Michelle,
Props for trying the poi! It’s not my favorite either, and ube ice cream tastes nothing like it. My husband is from Hawaii and grew up eating poi but I’m just not that into it.
Not sure if you’re a MAC girl but MAC also has some pretty nudes. Twig and Mehr are great!
I watched the first season of Big Little Lies and liked it (if you have the chance, read the book), and I’m trying to get into the second season which is out now but it’s soooo slow.
Do you have a fave Reese movie?
Michelle says
Thanks for the MAC colors! I have Modesty but will check out the two you mentioned.
I didn’t realize Big Little Lies was based on a book. I love to read so I will have to pick it up. I am a sucker for period pieces so I actually really like The Importance of Being Earnest, but for an all around fun movie I love Sweet Home Alabama. “You have a baby… in a bar.” haha
Karen says
I think you’ll like the book (the author is Liane Moriarty). I like it more than the series and that’s probably because I read the book first. When I read the book first, the book is *always* better, it seems.
If you like period piece novels I have another good one for you Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly.
I’m about to do a Sydney Cummings Boot Camp workout… Wish me luck!
Michelle says
Thank you for the book recommendation and good luck on the boot camp. You can do it!! Today I did abs to give the rest of my muscles a recovery day. 😉
Karen says
Thanks! I’m actually too scared to try her abs videos. LOL My core is so weak so I avoid it! Which one did you do?
Off to go sweat, talk to you later!
Michelle says
I have done her HIIT/Abs ones before and they aren’t that bad really, but today I did Ultimate Ab Workout by Psyche Truth. It was okay. I probably won’t do it again because it was pretty repetitive.

I saw that ice cream at TJ’s yesterday and wondered about it. Now I wish I had picked some up.
Girl, you know I love me some Reese, as any good Southern girl should. I thought she was brilliant as June Carter Cash in Walk the Line. I’m looking forward to seeing how season 2 of Big Little Lies plays out. (With Meryl Streep!) I have to say that I did enjoy the book more than the TV show, though.

I just can’t justify $38 for a lipstick. I don’t care how great it is, $38 is a lot for a lipstick. That’s like 7 Frappuccinos! Lol! Or a pair of ??? Crocs for my soon to be 8th grader, her taste in footwear is sketch but I have to support her! Lol!
I like Ube, it’s my favorite part of Halo Halo, I have two Fillipina sisters in law. I’m going to Trader Joe’s tomorrow, I’ll probably pick some up! Yum!

Choquant is my favorite color of these. I also like the Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy liquid lipsticks. A little more color and a bit more drying than the Chanel, but not as drying as many of the liquid lippies out there.
I actually enjoyed Home Again. Probably because I got to watch it on my own without Dear Husband or Dear Daughter. I’m with you, I’d love to see everything Reese has been in. Election is still one of my all time favorites.
