Glow on with Your Bad Self: Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Blush

March 11th, 2010 by Karen 100 Comments

Wearing Make Up For Ever’s HD Microfinish Blush in Quickie

It’s ridonkulous how much time I spend trying to get a “no makeup” makeup look. 🙂 Sometimes I’ll end up spending more time on something subtle with natural looking blushes, lipsticks and whatnot than it takes to do something bolder like a cat eye with pink glossy lips!

Getting makeup to NOT look like makeup can take lots of layering and blending, but there may be another way…

Enter Make Up For Ever’s HD Microfinish Blush ($25, available in 14 shades and carried at Sephora), a new, easy-to-apply liquid cream.

Doesn’t it bug you when you can see cream blushes sitting on top of your skin? This bad boy doesn’t do that. Originally designed for television and movie sets with high definition cameras, HD Microfinish Blush absorbs right into my skin, leaving behind a natural glow (I think so at least).

I’ve been going between Walk of Shame (a creamy bubblegum pink) and Quickie (a salmon pink), wearing both in various ways — on bare skin, beneath foundation, on top of foundation and even on top of powder. No matter how I’ve used ’em, I think they’ve looked pretty good, and never cakey or heavy. Not only that, but they’ve stayed put all day long.

From left: Walk of Shame, Quickie

Walk of Shame, Quickie

Application’s a cinch, too. I’ve been dabbing a few dots on my cheeks and blending with my fingers, which takes less than a minute to do. It might even be faster to apply than powder blush.

I can’t wait to try more of the colors, particularly PDA (a pinkish nude) and Truth or Dare (a hot pink).

Have you checked these out yet? What’s your take on them?

First they’re sour, and then they’re sweet

I go through phases where I’ll get all obsessed with certain snacks and foods, and lately I’ve been craving Sour Patch Kids 24/7.

Late last night I almost asked El Hub to make a run to the store for some. It’s THAT serious! 🙂

But I never eat the green ones…

I finally got my fix at lunch today. I swear each one tasted like manna from heaven (except for the green ones… I never eat the green ones).

Anywho, enough about my sweet tooth. Do you have any plans this weekend? It’s almost Friday, yay!

I’m thinking about seeing Alice in Wonderland. Have you seen it yet?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I haven’t seen Alice yet, but I’m dying to. The makeup, CG, and costumes all look just gorgeous 🙂

I <3 cream blushes, I've never seen it in this form before though, but leave it to Makeup for ever to do it 🙂

Alice in Wonderland was good, my favorite part was Alice's outfits, so fun. And Johnny Depp's makeup was pretty awesome, I kept thinking about the colors and blending techniques the MA probably used whenever they did close-ups of his face LOL! I'm sure you will too.

ps. I love Sour Patch Kids! I love the lemon and orange flavor ones.

I am so ready for this week to be over! It’s just been long . . . at least it’s only 5 full days and a minimum day until our two week spring break!

Next time I head into Sephora, I am *definitely* getting samples of a couple of those blushes. I want to check out 5, 6, 7, 8, and 14.

Alice is definitely on my list of movies to see, but I am not sure when I will go.

Ooo, today I tried using Shell Pearl as an eyeshadow and my blush, with UD Smog liquid liner and it looked wonderful, if I do say so myself 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration!

I was kinda skeptical about them when I first saw them. I thought they would be like silicone based for some reason, which I kinda hate. I didn’t even bother to go swatch them. Now, I’m so going to get a sample next time when I go to Sephora. I love a cream blush, especially long lasting ones. But I have never worn it underneath foundation. Is this the only one that can work that way? Or can MAC cream blushes or Stila convertible do that too?

Anyway, I love those sour candies too! (maybe not the exact brand). You know what else is good? Sour Skittles… love =D.

The blushes look great! I’m trying to save money for a) traveling this summer and b) grad school so maybe I won’t splurge on more makeup in the next little while, but I will keep them in mind in case I am in dire need of a fix 😉

I don’t eat the green ones either! Or at least, I don’t eat them first or last (so I get the best flavours at the beginning and the end) … I feel bad not eating them otherwise! Haha, go figure…

I did a quick pink and gray smokey eye using some stuff from MAC. I lined my eyes with MAC Feline, and then smudged it out with Bough Grey (a shimmery gray). Then I buffed the edges of that out with Give Me Liberty, a matte pink. 🙂

The two I tried weren’t shimmery! They look very matte on the skin, but not so matte that the look is flat.

Unfortch I haven’t tried the MUFE primer yet… Texture wise, I’d compare ’em to a very runny face lotion.

As for blush colors, basically you want something that mimics the natural flush you get after exercising. You could also try this trick: squeeze the tip of one of your fingers, and then find a blush color that matches that color.

I have been obsessing over this since I spotted it last week on the Sephora site. It’s official: I’m going to have to try it on in person and face the consequences!

I still have not tried a cream blush because I am so afraid it will look too shiny on me and I prefer the matte look of powder blushes. One of these days though, one of these days I will have to try one!

You totally should! Although several of ’em have a dewy finish, there are also a handful of cream blushes out there that dry down to a matte finish. They’re easy to use and travel friendly. 🙂

Those blushes look great! I have realized that I probably need to switch to cream type blushes now that I am older. Powders seem to just sit on top of my skin now. I’ll have to check these out, but I don’t think the Sephora closest to me has them. I can run by the Sephora near my daughter’s acting class tomorrow to see if they carry it.

Our plans for the weekend include our ritual Friday night pizza bash with the kids, taking my daughter to play practice tomorrow (the play is Alice in Wonderland. My daughter is part of an ensemble group and she has roles, including the March Hare and the Duchess), and cleaning the house.

Sounds like fun! I loves me some pizza. El Hub and I go frequent this place in the town next over… it’s run by an Italian family and the crust is FANTASTIC (I’m all about the crust).

That’s really cool that your daughter is into drama! Is this her first play?

That blush looks lovely on you Karen! The whole look is so pretty. My sephora doesn’t carry MUFE so I will have to live vicariously through you!

That blush looks really fabulous on you… I wish I could find places around here that sell that brand. Several of the colours look like ones I’d use. 🙂

Oh, I know! The only place I’ve seen it carried mass market is Sephora.

Have you tried any other of the Make Up For Ever products? Some of ’em are pretty cool.

I love sour candies of all kinds, especially Sour Keys! The Quicky colour looks gorgeous and it reminds me of So Sweet So Easy cremeblend blush from MAC.

Are they selling the MUFE blush in Sephora or can you only purchase it online?

It’s available online and a few Sephora stores. The stuff that hits the website seems to take a while to filter down to the retail stores, so it might be a spell before you see it locally.

Ohhhh!! I found MUFE at a Shoppers Drug Mart here in the city that I don’t usually go to… will have to go back and check out the blushes when I have more time (also fell in love with their Aqua Eyes)!

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
