Dior Holiday 2010 and the 5-Colour Eyeshadow Quints: It’s a Holiday Tradition

October 11th, 2010 by Karen 52 Comments

dior holiday 2010 makeup swatches review

Whoa, what’s this? A holiday collection that actually looks like a holiday collection?!?

Get out!

Dior decided not to break with tradition while they broke away from the pack with a classic holiday color palette in shades of gold, black, gray and pink. They must have figured they’d leave the springy holiday stuff to their luxury counterparts (Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana) this time around.

Good call. 🙂

Four of the nine items in the collection (available now in stores) are palettes. Palettes have been playing a big role this season, and it looks like they also were over at Dior HQ.

Here’s a quick look at both of the eyeshadow quints and a pricing/availability breakdown of everything in the release:

The Dior Holiday 2010 Collection

  • Dior Minaudiere palette in Pink Golds ($80, available at all Dior counters)
  • Dior Minaudiere palette in Grey Golds ($80, available at Saks Fifth Avenue)
  • Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Five Golds #001 ($58.00, available at Dior counters and Sephora)
  • Dior 5-Colour Iridescent in Endless Shine #529 ($58.00, available at Dior counters)
  • Dior Skinflash Radiance Booster Pen in Gold Edition ($36.00, available at Dior counters and Sephora)
  • Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss in Pink Stiletto # 234 ($27, available at Dior counters)
  • Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss in Black Lame #992 ($27, available at Sephora)
  • Dior Vernis in Czarina Gold #916 ($21, available at Dior counters)
  • Dior Vernis in Timeless Gold #226 ($21.00, available at Dior counters and Sephora)

Detailed reviews and FOTDs coming soon, but what’s your take on the overall color palette? Do you like that Dior decided to go a traditional route?

They look quite pretty — but also a little sheer, if I’m not mistaken? I always worry about the quality of holiday collections; it seems like a lot of companies (especially Dior) are willing to sacrifice texture and pigmentation for cute packaging! 🙁

Yeah, they’re a little sheer. You’ll have to layer these beneath a pencil/cream shadow or apply ’em wet for some real ka-POW!

Oh mama, Endless Shine is nice! But my neutral heart belongs to the Naked palette.

I really wanted to love Five Golds, but the colors just look too sheer for me. Oh well, I guess I’ve saved myself $60.

      Hi Alex,

You’re right — they’re quite sheer. I’m guessing they were trying to play with transparency…

I absolutely like the traditional colors for Holiday, not sure of the pigmentation on these quints though. I picked up the smaller LE Holiday Eye Palette–3 shadows and a highlighter in a red quilted palette–the shadows are much more pigmented.

The packaging on that palette is really beautiful! Glad to hear the shadows are more pigmented… it gives the ladies who love rich color some good options. 🙂

I don’t think they are yet available in UK but generally I find with Dior that the packaging looks tastier than the eyeshadows on your eyelid! But I can’t wait to have a look at em. 😀

Love that 5 golds. The colors do look sheer, but I’ve always loved the consistency of Dior shadows. I’m sure a little layering is in order to make the colors pop!

I just discovered Dior quints being a Chanel girl. 5 golds was one of the 1st 3 I purchased and it may be my favorite. Perhaps because I’m new to Dior I’m not disappointed by sheerness, but honestly comparing to the 2 others I got (Incognito & Nude Pink) I don’t find it overly sheer in the least. The colors are gorgeous and the texture divine!! I’m so glad I have it!!!
