Dior Goldrush Face of the Day: A Brown and Khaki Eye

April 21st, 2008 by Karen 35 Comments

I must confess: I have a kindergarten crush on the new Dior Golds 569 palette. Actually, I have room in my heart for all five of the colors in the new Dior quint, but my favorite is khaki. Today I paired it with MAC Soba eyeshadow (in the crease ) to create a brown and khaki daytime eye.

Dior me, baby!

dior-goldrush-golds-569-fotd-1

For the above look I used…

Over the entire eye
– Too-Faced Shadow Insurance Primer

Browbone
– Beige shade from Dior Golds 569 palette

Crease
– MAC Soba eyeshadow

Lid
– Khaki shade from Dior Golds 569 palette

Inner eye
– Gold shade from Dior Golds 569 palette

Upper lash line
– MAC Fluidline liner in Graphic Brown

Lower lash line
– MAC Technakohl Liner in Brownborder smudged with bronze shade from Dior Golds 569 palette

Lashes
– Shu Uemura Precise Volume Mascara in black

Brows
– MAC Concrete eyeshadow

Undereye circles
– Dior Long-Wearing Moisturizing Concealer in 430
– Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder #2

Face
– Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer in Almond
– Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder

Cheeks
– Dior Golden Dior Luminizing Makeup Jewel
– MAC Sunbasque blush

Lips
– MAC Her Fancy lipstick
– Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss in Coral Lame 337

Dior put together some highly pigmented, shimmery shadows for the 569 palette. I took extra care not to over-apply because I wanted a subtle look I could wear to work. That’s also why I went with MAC Soba in the crease, to help tone everything down. If you’re aiming for a bigger, bolder evening version of this same look, all you’d have to do is replace MAC Soba with something a little richer, like either the brown or bronze shades from the Golds 569 palette. Whaddaya think?

Happy Monday, cuties! What kind of day have you been having? Mine has been a’ight so far. I’m heading off to work in a few.

Keep on keepin’ on, ya’ll!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

    Hi Anna,

I wish I was there! It’s *really* cold here today! I need some hot tea, ASAP.

This Dior palette is very pretty but also very BAM! GLAM! THANK YOU MA’AM! Talk about shimmery and pigmented. I love it for night looks, but I gotta tone it down for the day time.

One reason I have this blog in my google reader is because I don’t have the money to get all the makeup you use, but I live vicariously through you.haha It’s nice to get new ideas and tricks, too.

The weather is getting gorgeous in New York now, everything is blooming finally! Thank God for Claritin. 🙂

    Hi Bridget,

You can create this look easily with L’Oreal Aishwarya Greens. (I have this palette, too…I’m going through a huge khaki phase). You have to wet your brush to get the same shadow intensity though as Dior’s…

NY sounds gorgeous right now. I am right there with you in the allergy department! I’m all about the Zyrtec, girl!

That’s gorgeous! The Coral Lame gloss really pulls the whole look together! So pretty! 🙂

I think this would work nicely with the Shu bronze gold drawing pencil on the upper lash like too!

    Hi Glosslizard,

Thanks girl! I thought about busting out the Shu drawing pencil. I haven’t used it on the upper lash line (yet), just the lower waterline (to open up the eyes). I will try both that and Fluidline in Sage…

I am quickly getting more and more obsessed with greens. Who knew they’d be so darn wearable?

Hi there! I’ve been reading (and loving) the blog for a while and now I have to comment. The face is gorgeous! Love the brown and khaki combination on you. Two questions: Where could I get the summer collection? (Would it be at any Dior counter?) and when is it supposed to be out? Keep up the great work!

I have such the love affair with greens! The way they can go from warm to cool with gold or blue undertones is amazing! And speaking of greens with blue…. I wore Parrot for the first time today! Holy s**t! It is so much more gorgeous on the lids than in the pan! I never suspected!! *Insert little hearts here*

you look fantastic! I do have question: what exactly is the difference when you say “lid” and “inner eye”? cause I think lid as from side to side, if that makes sense, LOL.

I hope you had a good day too=I was busy here. Had to go to the dentist this morning, and the vet this afternoon, all while fitting in a full day of work. Tomorrow should be better 🙂

    Hi Amanda,

The inner eye is the area closest to the tear duct. I’ve found that adding a touch of iridescent shadows to that area really opens up the eyes and makes them look bigger! I’ve used golds like this one and Vex from MAC for this! Try it sometime, it’s pretty hot once you find the one that works for ya. 🙂

Oh, are the puppies/kitty okay? I hope the Vet visit went well…

Did I ever tell you that I hate going to the dentist? I’m the worse dental patient EVER!

    Hi Amita,

Thanks girl! Yes, that will totally work. I’ve a similar look to this with a drugstore quad L’oreal’s Aishwarya greens. 🙂 To get the same shimmery intensity all I do is wet my brush and voila! Shimmery shadows. 🙂

    How’s your day been, btw?

I did a duo tone eye with Parrot and Lemon Sugar (I knew that had to be the first look I tried!) and a little matte brown in the crease. Paired it with my Guerlain bronzer and Gazelle on the lips! Pretty nice, if I do say so myself! An excellent look for summer!

I KNEW you would do that. Seriously! I just knew! I don’t need a picture to tell me that’s hot.
