Clarins Jazzy Colours Fall Collection: Cooler than Jazz Hands

August 12th, 2008 by Karen 32 Comments

So Chic Colour Quartet, $40

Take a break from all the berry and chocolate dominating this fall’s makeup collections, and take a look at Clarins. Their Jazzy Colours collection evokes the carefree elegance of the Roaring Twenties, and its grey, blue and rose shades make me want to dance the Charleston in a fringe dress, ha! All I need now is a bob haircut.

I think it’s time to embrace my inner flapper. 🙂

The full Jazzy Colours collection actually goes on sale later this summer, but I pulled recon this afternoon at Nordstrom, and a friendly Clarins counter makeup artist was kind enough to let me swatch the collection’s two Colour Quartets ($40), which are already available online.

So Sublime offers a bit more color punch with royal blue, shimmery peach, shimmery hot pink and shimmery silver shades.

So Chic black with silver glitter, plum matte, shimmery khaki and shimmery white shades are perfect for a purple smokey eye.

So Sublime Colour Quartet, $40

So Chic

So Sublime

All of the shadows have the same soft, creamy consistency that totally reminds me of Shu Uemura shadows. The colors are highly pigmented and blend easily (at least on the back of my hand).

Visit Clarins.com for a closer look at the Jazzy Colours collection.

In addition to the two color quartets, the collection includes:

Liquid Eyeliner in Blue Shimmer  ($24): A limited edition shade of Clarin’s liquid eyeliner pen.

Exotic Eyeliner in Black Magic ($22.50): A soft pencil with a long-wear formula. A limited edition product.

Wonder Length Mascara in Wonder Plum ($23.50): A limited edition purple shade of Clarin’s waterproof Wonder mascara.

After my Clarins visit, I swung by the MAC counter and played with Brown Script eye shadow, aka my new favorite crease color, and spent a long time talking to Jen, one of my favorite MAC makeup artists, about the merits of Half Red Lip Liner. 🙂

How was your day? I’m just about to eat a late dinner. El Hub brought home some take-out barbecue. Yea! I’m starved.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I have a MAC quad from maybe a year or two ago that is very similar to So Chic, but I’m definitely adding So Sublime to my wishlist!

Both quads look great! Very colorful and different from the other collections this fall.
Hmm, Exotic Eyeliner? Color me tempted!

Oooh..So Chic looks very pretty, but I’m not sure about So Sublime – I think that hot pink might be a little much for me!

Thats something we don’t have here – take out Barbecue. The concept hadn’t even crossed my mind until now. Can you guess what I’m craving now? Yep…barbecue. The sandwich I just ate didnt really cut it and I don’t think its going to set me up for the remaining 3.5 hours at work – bleurgh.

I like the purples best…I’m not sure i would be brave enough to rock the hot pink and blue etc. 🙂 The plum mascara sounds nice.

I haven’t tried Clarins makeup before–I love the blue shade in the Sublime palette!

…and now I’m craving BBQ for lunch. 😉

So Sublime looks nice but I really don’t know what to do with that hot pink. The girl in the ad looks like Kristen Bell, yeah? Believe it or not, it rained again earlier today. Now everything feels refreshed for a short while and then the temperature will rise again.

You’re welcome! They are so creamy and very soft. I hope you like ’em.

    Hi Beth,

LOL, I thought the same thing about the hot pink, too, but the make up artist said that if you blend all the shades together carefully you can make it very wearable.

Yeah, the take out BBQ place is right across the street. I had some chicken skewers!

I liked that shade, too. I’m thinking it’ll be really pretty with the light peachy-pink color.

    Hi Dao,

You can pop it in the middle of the lid and blend it out into other shades… I think if it’s done artfully one can pull it off. 🙂

    Stay dry, lady!

I prefer So Chic, but I’m a bit biased. I have far to many shades of purple in my closet. Regarding the Clarin’s mascara in plum, has anyone tired L’oreal’s plum shade? I’m always looking for a bargain but I do like purple. I’ve been using L’oreal for a while now and been loving it. Note: It’s difficult to find!

    Hi Glosslizard,

I know! Those lips are *so hot*. I’d know I’d be a hot mess, though, within an hour, LOL.

I think part of my love for fall makeup is also due to the fact that my fall footwear options are way cuter than my summer ones. BRING ON THE BOOTS!

    Hi Glosslizard,

I think fall in the bay area is extra beautiful, too. Even though we don’t have a dramatic change in the weather there’s this quality to the light that’s just so amazing. Then there’s the holiday trifecta: Halloween (my fave), Thanksgiving and Christmas. Oh, I loves it!

    Hi Karen,

Yes, it was the Voluminous line. However, I can’t find it very often any longer. Last time I needed a tube, I had to buy Black/Noir. So sad.

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
