Chanel Les Tissages Blushes: When Shimmer Meets Matte

October 7th, 2008 by Karen 63 Comments

One of my secret goals in life is to go grocery shopping wearing a seriously fabulous Chanel Tweed suit. I want to be that crazy Chanel lady standing in the 15-items-or-less express checkout line with her box of chocolate Powerbars. Sadly, I don’t expect to be getting the suit any time soon (damn!), but at least I can still get my Chanel tweed fix courtesy of Les Tissages de Chanel, the company’s latest collection of blushes ($45 each).

Slivers of silver and gold thread through these mixes of matte and shimmer. Inspired by classic Coco tweed, each of the four Les Tissages blushes (also referred to as the Chanel Tweed blushes) look like little works of art set in classic black Chanel compacts.

  • Tweed Pink: pale pink with shimmery silver
  • Tweed Rose: rose with shimmery gold and silver
  • Tweed Corail (French for coral): peach with shimmery gold
  • Tweed Ambre (French for amber): red brown with shimmer

I tested two of the four new shades, Tweed Corail and Tweed Rose, and only have two words: ME LIKEY!

Tweed Corail

Tweed Rose

These blushes aren’t quite shimmer and aren’t quite matte, falling somewhere in between both finishes. Each applies very sheer on my cheeks — sheerer than the Chanel Joues Contrastes blushes — and I needed at least three layers to build the color up to where it looked the way I wanted it to.

The shimmer is due to veins of very fine glitter particles and larger flecks. I love the resulting highlight they give to my cheeks. It’s an innocent, natural flush.

Later this week I’m going to wear one of these to work. Which one do you like best?

You Tube Madness: This Dude Rules!

Last weekend I was in full procrastination mode and spent more time than I care to admit on YouTube looking for theme songs to some of my favorite cheesy sit-coms from the 80s.

I learned that I’m not the only person who knows the words to the theme song from Perfect Strangers and sings it in the ladies room, LOL! Three words: this dude rules (yes, that is a roll of toilet paper on the wall beside him)!

I swear homeboy is my baby brother’s long lost twin.

Just remember — it’s your life, and your dreams; nothing’s gonna stop you now. LOLOL! 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

But $45 for blush! I always do the mental math and think, “But how much [Mac/Benefit?Stila] could I get for that price?”

    Hi Paris B,

I think the textures feel very similar; the JC feels just a tiny bit more softer and creamier, but I think that’s mostly because the Tweeds are bumpy and uneven on the pan.

i usually like a matte blush – i am weary of too much shimmer on my face because my husband tells me i look like i just finished my shift at the Hustler Club when the shimmer particles from my MAC pigment falls slightly on my temples!

I’ll have to check these out – I am in the market for a good plum blush and I want to check out the smoky quad that you featured a few days ago….

    OMG! That’s too funny!

I like both matte and shimmer looks on the cheeks, and this is a nice compromise. If it’s too shimmery for you, you can always use a lighter touch, or a fan brush to mellow out the color.
