Calvin Klein’s Fashionable New CK One Color Makeup Line Is Purely Cosmetic

April 3rd, 2012 by Karen 41 Comments

CK One Color

You know what’s better than eating an entire bag of Trader Joe’s Roasted Seaweed Snacks in one sitting?

So salty and delicious…

Eating an entire bag of Trader Joe’s Roasted Seaweed Snacks in one sitting while playing with Calvin Klein’s new CK One Color makeup line. 🙂

That’s right! Calvin has a new makeup line (not his first, but his first in a while), and it’s available now exclusively at Ulta. Officially, “the ck one color vision of beauty begins with revealing your authentic, real beauty and never hiding it.” The company says it’s about self-exploration, and not dramatic transformations. Their mantra: “look real, define yourself, add intensity.”

They call it a simplified approach to beauty that embraces individualism with boundary-pushing edginess, and the line, they say, is designed for all ages, cultures and genders.

That last bit sounds a lot like MAC, no? And the packaging looks a little sci-fi to me, like Apple Computer meets NASA at the International Space Station.

Of course, I like.

CK One Color all

I started out really jazzed about the eyeshadows, but now I’m not so sure. I had to build up the swatches with some of them to reach a level of pigment I liked, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that things go better when I try them on my lids.

As for the lipglosses and nail polishes? YUM! I see a lot of promise there.

My Tuesday felt like a Monday in disguise

Well, tonight didn’t turn out exactly as I’d planned. Instead of working out, tidying up my office and going grocery shopping — you know, being productive — I just vegged out instead.

Shoot.

Oh, well. It happens… Tomorrow’s a new day.

Right now, I think I’ll take a lesson from Tabs and curl up on the couch. 🙂

I hope you had a nice night. What was the most surprising part of your day?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Definitely reminds me of a Holliday collection, funny it’s released in spring/summer.
I do love those blush duos though!

I wish the packaging looked a little more luxe for the price. $28 for an eyeshadow quad that looks like it came out of the bargain bin at Walgreens? No likey.

I like eating seaweed too, but if I eat too much in one sitting, my stomach won’t be able to handle it. I love it with sushi too! mmmm…now I have a craving for miso soup and sushi. *drool*

I like the Disco quad. Speaking of lounging cats, Jazz commandered my lap when I was trying to finish my anthro reading. He and Prof. Mooney are clearly not on the same wavelength.

Right now Tabs is in his cat tower ignoring me. You know, business as usual!

ooooh, I’m really diggin’ this line, it seems more like a holiday collection but still looks so pretty and wearable for everyday looks 🙂 Ah, crispy seaweed, I love that stuff! It is so darn addicting, you can never have just one, haha. Have you ever tried making bite-sized spam masubi w/ the crispy seaweed? It’s amazing and so tasty! yum. 😛

      Hi J.Q.,

I haven’t! I haven’t eaten spam musubi is SO LONG. I’ve been a pescatarian for a couple years now, but I do miss spam. I used to love it with a big ol’ scoop of rice and a side of ketchup…NOM NOM NOM!

I’ve actually been trying out being a pescatarian for 3 months now, I really like it and don’t miss meat much and feel a lot healthier but I’m starting to get bored with my food options. I was wondering if one day you could do a blog post about health and your pescatarian lifestyle, I could really use some inspiration and motivation to keep up this health kick I’m on 🙂

Vegging out is fine …. When I came home, the Hubs had added on a new channel (Japan TV) to our cable TV line up. He doesnt understand Japanese, and I only understand the occassional word or two, but that channel kept us mesmerized all evening LOL. So yeah – we vegged out too!

I cant wait for TJs to open here. I want everything LOL – the mango bars, those seaweed snacks, the pasta etc etc. You are making me hungry at 821am.

I LOVE the packaging on that line — the swivel top is nifty. The matte eyeshadows in each of the quads are calling my name. I sorta wish they made a quad that was all matte – id be all over that in a heartbeat!

My mom does the same thing with Korean soap operas. She doesn’t understand them (and they aren’t subtitled), but she loves them and freaks out if she misses an episode, haha!

I can’t wait for you to get a TJs. You’ll have so much fun browsing the store! And when you find something good, hopefully you’ll give me the heads up.

I like watching Japanese dramas, but usually w/ subtitles. That must be where I picked up my smattering of Japanese!

I definitely will — youre my TJ’s informant for now, and I cannot wait to return the favor!

It’s set to launch at Ulta in April. There’s no specific date, so you may have to phone into your nearby store to see if they have it yet.

Sometimes I eat mine over the course of a few days because the seaweed is very salty! I was craving salt yesterday, though.

In Korea we eat those seaweed things as a wrap around white, fluffy rice! Delicious! I do admit to eating them straight out of the packet too, much to my grandma’s dismay.

Love love love seaweed….my husband, not so keen.
I’m falling in love with eyeshadow in a pencil. I have a ton of palettes and singles but I picked up some UD 24/7s and have been using them every day for two weeks!
Also, most surprising part of my day- tornadoes-we live in between Dallas and Ft. Worth TX and it got hit pretty bad with some crazy storms yesterday but we’re all ok. And my eyeshadow looked fabulous, even after all the rain 🙂

I was hoping to like the gloss eyecolor, now I’m not positive I want to order it without getting to try it (no where near an ulta). Might wait a while longer than I wanted, I wanted it to be a new spring happy.

I’m actually really excited about the Sugar lipgloss. It looks exactly like the Sugar lipgloss from the old CK makeup a few years back. This was my go to lipgloss and I was so bummed when the line went under. So yay for that! Hope they can make this line stick, this is what, the 3rd or 4th attempt at CK cosmetics??

Karen! Did you paint those nail polished directly on your arm?!?! Shame on you 🙂 Use scotch tape first – lol!
Anyway – I’m loving these items. I’m young (old?) enough to remember CKs 1st foray into the wild world of makeup. That line was very neat and sleek also, and I guess I remember that the eyeshadows were pretty nice. I think that older collection was all basic, neutral colors if I recall.
I’m really liking that quad in heat and the np in polyester. I can’t wait to check it out!
