I’m playing with monochromatic multitasking makeup on this chilly Tuesday, partially because I like the alliteration in that phrase… 🙂 And partially because it totally fits with my current makeup motif, which currently involves me seeing what I can get away with given 10 minutes of prep time.
This one was unabashedly inspired by a recent monochromatic makeup post I saw on Instagram by my current makeup muse, Katie Jane Hughes, in which she uses a Chanel lippie on her lids as an eyeshadow, on her cheeks as a blush, and on her lips as a — GASP! — lipstick.
Mind you, I fully acknowledge that wearing lipstick on your lids is one of those things that isn’t everyone’s cup of hot cocoa, but my eyes have been fine whenever I’ve done it, so I’m OK with it.
Like KJH, I’m wearing Chanel in these pics — a Rouge Allure Ink in matte pinkish brown Amoureaux. It has a hint of coral in it.
The Chanel Rouge Allure Inks are more liquid than cream, so they’re runnier than a cream and have a thinner consistency. Consequently, when I used this one as a shadow here, I pressed it on my lids with a flat eyeshadow brush, in order to have more control over the placement. Then, I waited for it to dry before adding another layer.
When using it as a blush, I like to start with a little on the back of my hand first, which I then tap on the apples of my cheeks with a finger. I do this immediately after applying base, by the way, because it blends better when the base product is still wet and hasn’t set.
The base I’m wearing is also a multitasking monster — Maybelline’s awesome Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealer. It also works great as a full-coverage foundation!
To sheer it out, just buff it down with a synthetic skunk brush spritzed with a makeup setting spray. I used Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist to mellow out Instant Rewind’s matte finish (you know me and dewy skin, LOL).

Makeup worn in this look
Eyes: Chanel Rouge Allure Ink in Amoreaux (lids) Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow (bronzer worn in the crease, highlighter in the inner corner and on brow bone), MAC Brun (liner and brows), IT Cosmetics Superhero Mascara (lashes)
Cheeks: Chanel Rouge Allure Ink in Amoreaux (as a blush blush), Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow
Lips: Chanel Rouge Allure Ink in Amoreaux
Base: Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser in Golden (worn as concealer and foundation)
And there we have it. 🙂
What are you up to today?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
I love this!! I saw it on KJH’s insta and have been wanting to try it! How is the staying power? That’s been my only hold off is that I usually need makeup to last for 8+ hrs. But I guess since I usually bring a lipstick with me then I can totally reapply if I need to haha!
Also I do the same thing with concealer, except I’ve been loving NARS soft matte mixed with some Fix+.l and my real techniques face brush.
When you say skunk brush what do you mean? Happy holidays!
Hi Jade,
The Chanel staying power is just OK. I have dry lids and cheeks and after about an hour I could see creasing on my eyes (which honestly, I don’t mind so much… I think it looks kind of cool!). If you absolutely need to have your makeup stay put, then try one of the MAC Liquid Lipsticks. Now those will NOT move for nothing! I’ve worn them as blush and as eyeshadow and they stay completely put.
Skunk brush — usually a brush with a black and white brush head, like the MAC 187.
I did the exact same thing yesterday after watching KJH’s video too! But I mixed 2 MAC lipsticks, Pink Plaid and Up the Amp, and I loved how it turned out. Btw, thank you Karen for introducing me to KJH, I love her videos and style!
You’re welcome, Reehana. Her style is so cool, isn’t it? She’s inspired me to up my winged liner game and my earring collection. 😂 I think I have those lippies so I’ll have to give your look a go.

Oh girl, you’re singing my tune. I love multi-use products even if that wasn’t their original intention. It’s just soooo much faster.
I’m still holding onto some Becca products that double as lip and blush. There may be one hue I could try on my lids.
P.s. You are really rocking those grays. It looks great. I meant to tell you that the other day when you posted a photo of you and the coy wolf wearing rain jackets. You could totally model. Shall I drop a word to Eddie Bauer?

Ooh, good question! The chocolate cupcake with vanilla buttercream topped with crushed peppermint is doing really well. 🙂
Karen, in addition to your makeup, I’m loving the necklace too! Where’s it from?
Hi Neha,
I wish I could say it’s by a fancy designer, but I got it years ago, at LOFT, on sale for like $5!
You look beautiful, Karen! I like the idea of maximizing the use of one product. What can we use to substitute Charlotte Tilburry Bronze and Glow since I don’t have one?
Hi Yuni,
You can use any bronzer that you have on hand. As long as it’s matte and brown with some warmth, you should be good! As for the highlighter, you can use any highlighter you have on hand, or you can use a pearly beige or gold eyeshadow. 🙂
I love that gray in your hair . Mine gets gray along my hairline .
I think it’s ok to use lip products on your eyes as long as you don’t go back and forth w the brush .
Happy Tuesday ❤️
Hi Michele,
Good point. I’m a fan of applying with a flat eyeshadow brush. That way, you get it *exactly* where ya want it!
Happy Tuesday. 🙂
Such a pretty, fresh, glowy look. Amoreaux is such a pretty color, not sure why I haven’t worn it lately. I have sensitive eyes, so I’ll pass on trying this on my lids.
Love the necklace you’re wearing too!
Helped Dear Husband put up the Christmas lights this morning. Finally. To be fair he was in Japan the last 12 days and there was no way I was getting up on that ladder. Running more Christmas errands today. I keep forgetting things on my list so they get pushed to the next day. Haven’t even figured out Christmas Day menu. Argh. So much to do.
Thanks, my friend! I need to remember to wear Amoreaux more often, too. The color goes with almost everything! Great for everyday.
So what’s on the draft Christmas menu so far? I’m happy to report that I will NOT be cooking this year, LOL! I’m heading to my parents house, and they usually have more than enough food there. I may whip out a gluten-free lasagna for fun if I’m feeling inspired.
Karen you always amaze me. Your looks are gorgeous and I love you did this with lipstick…I had to play sick one day and used a red lipstick but I wasn’t trying to look pretty! You on the other hand do!!!
Keep these great topics a-comin!!
