A Hot Pink Lip: My Tribute to the Mighty Cosmopolitan

May 30th, 2008 by Karen 36 Comments

This hot pink lip pays tribute to the SATC signature drink, the mighty cosmopolitan! Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte turned that cocktail into a cult classic.

mac-cosmetics-hollywood-nights-cosmopolitan-lip-look

For this lip I used MAC Hollywood Nights lipstick (a hot pink), Chanel Glossimer in Pink Crystal (a light, shimmery pink) and used MAC Pink Treat Cremestick to line my lips. Now, all I need is a group of girlfriends with time on their hands and somewhere fancy to go.

I’d like to make a toast to all my ladies (*raises glass*). Here’s to a fabulous, fun-filled weekend!

How to Make a Cosmopolitan

1 oz vodka
1/2 oz triple sec
1/2 oz lime juice
1/2 oz cranberry juice

Shake vodka, triple sec, lime and cranberry juice vigorously in a shaker with ice. Strain into a martini glass, garnish with a lime wedge on the rim, and serve.

Have you ever had a cosmopolitan before? I haven’t had one since 2001 (long story).

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Ooh, lovely! I haven’t worn Hollywood Nights yet (but I love Style Minx, the “matching” gloss); great combo.

I had a cosmo in a bar in Portland a few years back; I was meeting up with a friend who was in town for the weekend (putting on a show), and so I met up with him and his coworkers. When they asked me what I wanted to drink, I didn’t know what I wanted, so his British coworker, in his accent, says, “A COS-mo, darling, you want a COS-mo, let’s get you a COS-mo”. And so I had one! I do like fruity cocktails, so I enjoyed it.

Here’s a sort-of-secret: the best place for cocktails in San Francisco is the Orbit Room — corner of Market and Laguna.

I do love the hot pink lip! Chanel Splendeur does a beautiful job with this look as well!

I went through a major kamikaze phase for a while, during which I was informed that a kamikaze is a cosmo minus the cranberry juice! My fave was a drink called the California Kamikaze which used citrus vodka and Grand Marnier! Mmmmmmm!

Ooh so pretty Karen, Now I need a full face shot to see how the complete look is. You know how it is, you see an awesome pretty pink and you get it, only to realize it just does not go with the rest of you 🙁 I’m sure it looks great, so lets have it!

Ooooh, Beeyooochifful! I lurves that pink lip. I’ve recently learned to mix lipstick, gloss and liner too, it’s opened up a world of possibilities. Right now, I’m on the hunt for my ultimate fave color – a true, three dimensional rose red.
But seriously, that lip of yours is hot!!

Hi Karen, the pink is sweet and hot! Anyway, is Hollywood Nights part of the normal range or LE? Looks like I can consider to get this lippy for my back to mac containers 🙂

    Have a nice weekend! 🙂

Looks great, but such an in-your-face pink is nothing for me… lol

Just had half an hour on Specktra and MAC is throwing new collections at us! Which one are you most excited about? Cool Heat is going to have me spending like crazy I’m afraid…

That looks absolutely gorgeous – I love hot pink lipstick. I’m in the market for the perfect fuschia pink at the moment but I haven’t found it yet.

I’m not a big fan of the Cosmo, myself. I’m a Corona girl or if I’m drinking cocktails it has to be a Tequila Sunrise for me. Yum!

LOVE-I’m on the hunt for a lovely, bright almost in-your-face pink combo, and this one looks amazing. what formula is hollywood nights, and from what collection? I need this pink lip to wear to a wedding, with a chocolate brown dress. I just ordered becca’s watermelon lip and cheek tint (the stain one)…..hopefully since it’s a stain it will last the whole evening, and I’m going to top with pink gloss.

What did you think of the movie? I went last night, and the show was sold out, and only about 5 guys in attendance, LOL> I’ve never seen so many women at one movie-it was fun. the whole room felt like it was buzzing, then everyone started clapping when the show started, hahaha. happy saturday-enjoy your family celebration! We are about to do yard work, then run some errands. The hubby’s bday is next week so I need to start working on his presents.

Believe it or not, I have never tried a Cosmo. My research community and I prefer martinis 🙂 Right now it’s so hot in Florida (mid 90s) I really want a mojito. Girl, I got a lip gloss from Sally Hansen thanks to your rec. It’s so divine and I’m in lurve. The Walgreens near my place also has Milani but I’m holding my horses right now.

    wow..that’s a nice color!

I had a cosmo last night as an ode to Sex and the City. My girls and I got all dolled up and went to see the movie and afterwards went straight to dinner (than a bar).

Needless to say I am extremely tired but satisfied!!

    Hi Jeanne,

It’s been a while since I’ve taken Style Minx out for the spin, so thanks for the reminder!

I like fruity cocktails, too. They have to be vodka-free, though. 🙂

    Hi Glosslizard,

That was El Hub’s favorite drink back in the day, too. I stay far, far, away from the vodka… The Cosmopolitan Incident in 2001 was the last time I touched it (oy).

I need more hot pink lipstick in my life! Uh, oh, I feel a new phase coming on. 🙂

Girl, what’s going on? How was your graduation? Hope it went well and that it wasn’t too hot during the ceremony.

I will do a full face with this lip soon! 🙂

    Hi Gracie,

Hollywood Nights was part of the Heatherette release from a few months ago. Unfortunately it was limited edition, so your favorite MAC counter may or may not have it. If it’s not around, check out Girl About Town and Lustering.

    Hi Karen B.,

Yah, it’s not exactly something I’d wear to work, LOL. It’s more of a fun party/going out shade for me.

Cool Heat looks *really* pretty. I’m really looking forward to it, too.

I hear that, girl! Gimme a Corona and a lime and I’m good to go. 🙂

I need more hot pink lipstick in my life! The brights used to scare me, but I’m stating to really dig them for summer.

    Hi Amanda,

It’s Satin, and from the Heatherette release. Ooh, a hot pink lip with a chocolate brown dress sounds like a perfect color combo. Purty!

I loved it! I am such a die-hard fan of the show, though, so chances are I would’ve loved anything they put out. The people at the midnight showing started clapping and hooting and hollering when the show started, too. It’s amazing how many women got dressed up, yah?

How was the yard work today? Hope it was fun (I like plants and gardening). Happy early B-day to your sweetheart! Is he easy to shop for? I swear it’s so hard to get anything for El Hub. It’s like pulling teeth!

    Hi Dao,

SWEET! You finally got the Sally Hansen gloss! FINALLY! It’s great, isn’t it? Which shade did you get? Oh, one thing I remember from my tube is that it would leak if I didn’t twist it shut tightly. Be careful cause you don’t want it to get all over your purse. 🙁

It’s cold here! Send some of that Florida heat! And pass a mojito, too, please! 😉

    Hi Lindsay,

Yeah, the lighter pink mellows it out quite a bit. I think I’m going to also try it with Chanel Galactic Glossimer. It might be a little over the top, but sometimes it’s fun!

HI Karen, I know right, I’ve been all over the place since graduation. It was soooo nice, I wasn’t gonna even do the ceremony but at the last minute, a friend convinced me to do it and it was really nice. It really made me think about how much I had to do to get there so that was good. And heck yes it was hot!! We were in an auditorium which was nice but the grads had to line up outside for like 40 min ugh! Your brothers graduation sounds so nice, congrats to him!! Now I’m off to try to get into nursing school, keep your fingers crossed for me!

And most importantly… did you love the movie?
