5 Fabulously Affordable Fall Lipsticks

September 14th, 2015 by Karen 28 Comments

5 fabulously affordable fall lipsticks 1
From the left: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipcolor in Toast of New York ($7.99), COVERGIRL Star Wars Limited Edition Colorlicious Lipstick in Dark Purple 50 ($6.99), >L’Oreal Colour Riche Collection Exclusive in Blake’s Red ($8.99), Revlon Super Lustrous Lipcolor in Rum Raisin ($7.99) and Maybelline Color Sensational The Buffs in Stormy Sahara ($8.29)

I have a tabby by my side (as opposed to on my lap — what’s up with that?), and I’m wearing a snuggly long-sleeved sweater and long pants to keep away the unseasonably fall-like chill outside.

I’m also wearing layers, as weird as that sounds, but it’s brisk and overcast outside. The leaves have even started to fall, and I’m seriously contemplating socks (toe oppression!).

Technically, it may not be “that time of year” yet, but I’m definitely getting a fall vibe.

There’s no way I’m ready for El Niño or the cold weather fall entails, but I do feel full-on ready for fall makeup, like these five fabulously affordable fall lipsticks that are all less than $10 each.

1. L’Oreal Colour Riche Collection Exclusive in Blake’s Red ($8.99)

loreal blakes red

Blake, as in Lively, the lucky lady with the long, luscious blonde hair (and, um, Ryan — oh, what’s his name? Not Gosling! Ryan Reynolds, how dare I?! — Ryan Reynolds’ baby mama). L’Oreal Colour Riche Collection Exclusive in Blake’s Red is her red addition to the L’Oreal Colour Riche Collection Exclusive line.

Blake’s Red is a beauty of a neutral red, neither too warm nor cool, with an opaque demi-matte finish, and it won’t just work through fall. This one will also carry you through the holidays.

I love this lippie with classic fall looks, and it suits a wide range of skin tones. Wear it with a simple cat eye for something vintage, or a black or gray smoky eye (a la Robert Palmer’s Addicted to Love video), or metallic golden lids.

SO PRETTY!

Because it’s by L’Oreal, it has their very strong floral flavor and scent (both fade quickly), which folks seem to either love or hate. I don’t mind it at all.

It’s available now online for $8.99 and at drugstores and Ulta.

2. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipcolor in Toast of New York ($7.99)

revlon toast of new york

This is so old-school, you guys! I wore this color back in the day, and it’s making a comeback again.

I feel like there have been an overabundance of dark browns with almost grayish undertones lately, and I like that look on some people, but I feel like it looks a little macabre on me. THIS kind of brown has a little yellow in it, and I think it makes it more wearable. The matte finish also has a hint of a shine to it.

It’s available now online for $7.99 and at drugstores and Ulta.

3. COVERGIRL Star Wars Limited Edition Colorlicious Lipstick in Dark Purple 50 ($6.99)

covergirl star wars 50

Do you think this lipstick is on the dark side or the light…? Ooh, Star Wars reference! Where’s my light saber, Tabs?! 🙂

This dark purple berry is a classic fall color. It’s from the new limited edition COVERGIRL Star Wars collection, and it has a creamy finish.

It’s also flexible. You can wear it as a stain by applying one layer, then blotting, or build it up like I’ve done here. I’m wearing three layers, so it looks a little vampy.

It’s available now online for $6.99 and at drugstores.

4. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipcolor in Rum Raisin ($7.99)

revlon rum raisin

If COVERGIRL Dark Purple 50 isn’t your thing, how about a rosy berry like Revlon Rum Raisin instead? This one’s a year-round shade that looks lovely with smoky browns, bronzes and khakis. I picked it up on my last trip to Ulta as part of a BOGO deal with Revlon Toast of New York, and I just checked online… Looks like they’re still doing the BOGO. Public service announcement!

It’s available now online for $7.99 and at drugstores and Ulta.

5. Maybelline Color Sensational The Buffs in Stormy Sahara ($8.29)

maybelline stormy sahara

Stormy Sahara…

I SO love this lippie’s name. I feel like I’m always talking about Maybelline Color Sensation The Buffs in Stormy Sahara, and the reason is simple: IT’S AWESOME.

With no shortage of dark lip colors every fall, sometimes I crave something more nude like Stormy Sahara to wear with smoky eyes. I think it’s one of the very best nudes currently available in drugstores. Completely opaque, it’s also incredibly comfortable. The color has a little bit of warmth to it, too, which I like because pale and/or cool nudes sometimes wash out my lips. I like nudes with a little warmth and peachiness to them, and this one has both.

It’s available now online for $8.29 and at drugstores.

Karen

I had no idea Toast of New York still existed! I wore this all the time in high school, with a brown Jordana lip liner. Man, this takes me back!

It’s still just as good as it was back in the day. Did you also wear Wine With Everything? That was another popular color!

I really like that red from L’Oreal, I will have to check it out next time I am at Ulta. Revlon Rum Raisin looks lovely too, I don’t think I have anything similar in my lipstick collection.

I really like Stormy Sahara! You’re right, that would be perfect with a smokey eye look. I remember Toast of New York! I used to wear that back in college. Another favorite from back in the day was Revlon Coffee Bean.

It was such a struggle NOT to get Blakes red when it launched, and here you are, rubbing it into my face again. I really don’t need another red….

Those L’Oreal reds are incredible! I have Frida’s, which is actually more fuchsia/pink but the formula is SO GOOD that I’ve been tempted to pick up more! Anyway, I may have to get one of those Revlon lippies, too. I’ve really been feeling the 90s brown lip these days.

The new L’Oréal reds are FABULOUS! I picked up Blake’s, Freida’s & Liya’s shortly after they launched. I wasn’t sure if these were limited edition (I missed out on the exclusive reds last year) so I went back to ULTA with a 20% off coupon & bought backups of Blake’s & Freida’s, just in case. #gorgeous

You will not be remotely surprised that I immediately liked the 2 most 90s colors in your selection. 🙂 All the colors actually look great for fall but thankfully our temps are supposed to be in the low 80s all week (for some reason I keep mistakenly saying/thinking “early 80s”, not sure what that’s about). Anyway, I’m sure it’ll be chilly here in no time. How did you do in the search for maternity clothes? I hope you found some cute stuff!

Revlon Super Lustrous BOGO, hello! Revlon Super Lustrous are my hands down favorite lipstick ever. I can’t get enough of them(We’re talking Raisin Rage, Wine with Everything, Cherries in the Snow classic). Thanks for including these. I have been on the lookout for some brown toned lippies that won’t look too dated. My inspiration for lip color was always Cindy Crawford in those Revlon ads from the ’90s, and apparently this look is making a comeback for fall.

I’d love for you to do a feature to give us the how to. From what I hear the look is brown toned lip but modern and updated. I love me some vintage Grace Jones, Iman, Brooke Shields, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington and Cindy Crawford, but please help us keep it modern and balanced. Tips please?? most appreciated

Thank you, Karen! It’s so refreshing seeing LIPSTICK for a change. EVERY.BODY. is doing so many mattes these days, and I’m really over it with the matte everything. These look lovely. I may go get the Revlon ones and that Cover Girl purple for myself! I’m glad they’re affordable, too!

I’m not a huge fan of nudes but Stormy Sahara does look HELLA expensive!

I love the CG one. I hear the lavender is also pretty awesome.

That makes two bloggers I’ve seen talking about Stormy Sahara! Must check it out, as my lips are pretty pigmented naturally. I keep going back to Revlon’s Colorburst Balm Stain in Honey. It’s a victim of a bad name because it’s really more of a pinky-mauve neutral. On me it’s your-lips-but-better. It has great coverage, moisturizes and lasts several hours. I reach for it more than Bite Beauty’s lipstick in Fig!

I wear stormy sahara almost daily. It definitely looks different on my nc25 skin tone, but the color and tone of it are just perfect! It just looks healthy. I am definitely going to pick up rum raisin and Blakes red. That red is seriously gorgeous. Thank you as always Karen!
