The Chanel Collection Plumes Precieuses de Chanel Holiday 2014: Feathers and Diamonds to Tickle Fancies and Make Hearts Flutter

October 29th, 2014 by Karen 41 Comments

Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in Phenix
Makeup by the new Plumes Precieuses de Chanel holiday 2014 collection. Eyes: Les 5 Ombres de Chanel Eyeshadow Palette in Oiseaux de Nuit. Upper cheekbones: Camelia de Plumes Highlighting Powder. Lips: Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour in La Flamboyante. Nails: Le Vernis Nail Colour in Phenix.

Feathers and diamonds, the inspirations for the new Plumes Precieuses de Chanel holiday 2014 collection, are two things that Tabs and I love in almost equal measure (well, I’m more partial to the diamonds, but he goes buck wild for the feathers!).

Chanel Collection Plumes Precieuses de Chanel collection for Holiday 2014

The nine-piece holiday release has just started to alight and sparkle on Chanel counters (it’s also available online), and it’s steeped in classic colors. Red and gold enliven lips and nails, while luminescent peach and platinum gold highlight cheeks, and subtle, sophisticated gray, black, beige and gold luxuriously glimmer on lids.

Can I just say that I think the marketing visuals for this collection are off the hook gorgeous??

I LOVE those eyes! — and how the gold wraps around the inner corners to merge with the smokey black lower lash lines, and the shimmery gray goes all the way up to the brows.

The velvet matte red lips and glossy red nails? Also killer. The whole ensemble combines bold and sophisticated in a way I’d happily wear every day, if I thought I could get away with it.

Chanel Collection Plumes Precieuses de Chanel Holiday 2014
LOVE. IT.

All of the pieces are limited edition, so if you see something you love or like, better to grab it sooner than later.

Here are the items aggressively tickling my fancy…

Camelia de Plumes Highlighting Powder, $72

Chanel Camelia de Plumes
Camelia de Plumes Highlighting Powder in Platine, a soft platinum sheen, $72

If I could bathe in a claw-foot tub filled with this stuff, I would, and with as much as that would probably cost (according to my calculations and based on an 80-gallon tub, about $2.6 million), people would wonder if I made a deal with the devil. Looking at the otherworldly glow of my skin from the platinum gold sheen, they might also assume I was doing an extreme wheatgrass juice cleanse, but I digress…

When light catches the high points on my face while I’m wearing this, it looks like there are creamy streams of starlight on my cheeks.

Seriously. Lovin’ on this.

Les 5 Ombres de Chanel Eyeshadow Palette in Oiseaux de Nuit, $80

Chanel Oiseaux de Nuit
Les 5 Ombres de Chanel Eyeshadow Palette ($80) in Oiseaux de Nuit, with a luminous white, a soft grayish lavender, an intense dark gray, an intense black and an antique gold

If you like your eye looks bold, you probably won’t have lusty dreams about this palette. Its shadows are closer to moderately pigmented than high, and I see it more for ladies and gents looking for softly defined, luminous lids.

The shadows blend like buttah and behave well, with very little fallout (even the black shade), but be careful if you tend to over-blend, because these are so buttery that things can turn muddy fast. I repeat: keep control of your blending brush.

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour in La Flamboyante, a bright orangey red, $35
Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour in La Flamboyante, a bright orangey red, $35

Well, clutch my pearls and steer me to the closest fainting couch, because this warm orangey red is all that and a bag of TJ’s Pretzel Slims!

Even on my raggedy, dry lips (note to self: drink extra H20 today ’cause you’re dehydrated, yo), this lightweight lipstick looks like velvety matte silk, and it lasts a respectable five to six hours.

Le Vernis Nail Colour in Phenix, $27

Le Vernis Nail Colour in Phenix, a bright orangey red, $27

Le Vernis Nail Colour in Phenix makes for a fitting accomplice to La Flamboyante on your lips. A single stroke of this pigmented formula paints paws with full, glossy color. I plan to wear this one all year long.

(Side note: If you happen to want/need to kiss up to your mother-in-law, consider getting her La Flamboyante and Phenix together as a gift. You would score major, major points.)

Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Or Blanc, $32

Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Or Blanc, a shimmery white gold, $32
Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Or Blanc, a shimmery white gold, $32

I wear this fun, festive shimmery white gold as an alternative to white or beige liner on my lower water lines because I think it makes my eyes look bigger.

I apply a layer, wait for it to dry, then, to ramp up the intensity, go back in for another layer.

Illusion d’Ombre in Envol, $36

Chanel Illusion d'Ombre in Envol, a shimmering peach, $36
Illusion d’Ombre in Envol, a shimmering peach, $36

Like a really fancy beDazzler for lids! Yeah…I can already tell that I’ll be wearing this glistening peach with silvery shimmer from now till next summer.

For last-minute holiday party eyes, tap a small amount of Envol on your lids with a finger, being careful not to take it too high up into the crease, and finish with false lashes.

  • Camelia de Plumes Highlighting Powder in Platine, a soft platinum sheen, $72
  • Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Caresse, a shimmering peach, $45
  • Les 5 Ombres de Chanel Eyeshadow Palette in Oiseaux de Nuit, a luminous white, a soft grayish lavender, an intense dark gray, an intense black and an antique gold, $80
  • Illusion d’Ombre in Envol, a shimmering peach, $36

ooohhh…CHANEL!! Never disappoints. Karen, which red lip do you like more? Chanel or Guerlain? I am trying to decide!

      Hi May,

They’re both beautiful in their own way, but I’d have to go with Chanel. The velvety matte finish is something extra special. 🙂

GUUUUURL you know a gal can never have enough reds!

Dragon Red is killer. But this one is really lovely, too. BTW, Tom Ford has some new matte lipsticks with a gorgeous orangey red called Flame. It might be something you would like.

I really like the look, on my laptop the lipstick looks like a neutral red. I’m super tempted to splash out on some of the pieces especially the highlighter, the eye shadow palette, and eye liner.

      Thanks babe!

By the way, the highlighter is even more beautiful in person. And wait until you get it on your upper cheekbones!

Hope that you’re having a nice week so far. Got any plans for Halloween?

      Hi Jennifer,

So, the great thing about it is the design seems to hold up well. I’ve used it a number of times and the plumes are still there! I hope it keeps for a really long time, because it’s very pretty and I like staring at it, LOL!

What else do you like from this collection so far?

I want to try red lips but I have no clue what shade to pick and what look good on me….

      Hi Agata,

How about starting with a sheer red gloss first? Maybe pick one up from Ulta? That way you ease your way into it. I’m all for bold lips but I don’t want you to be scared off, LOL!

I love red but it can very shocking because of the high contrast, especially on pale skin. You could also do a red lip liner, then pop a clear gloss on top. That might be a good way to ease your way into it!

You’re full of great ideas. Maybe I will pick up a red lipgloss and a cheap red lip liner from Ulta collection.
The reason why I’m so hooked on red lips is Gwen Stefani on The Voice, she always looks so perfect with her blonde hair and bold red lips.

Gwen rocks that red so hard. Gregor Arlt (he’s MAC’s Director of Makeup Artistry…oooh, official title!) does her makeup often; I’ve read he uses the MAC classics on her: Ruby Woo, Russian Red, MAC Red. You should check him out on Instagram! He has a pic of Gwen on there with red lips.

Oh Gods >_< You're looking so stunning in that full face pic, I can't even!! I want that highlighter with a passion bordering on the religious. It's the perfect vampire highlighter (although judging by your pics, it's just perfect generally). How often do they release cool-leaning highlighters that aren't disco-bally? Not often, methinks…

Am I going nuts, or is it my computer screen: to me, the swatch of La Flamboyante leans decidedly 'rose', not orange red?! Either way, it's stunning. I was foaming over it on Sunny's blog, and I'm gonna go right head and foam over it here too. Begging your pardon, Karen!

This collection is awesome if only for the name Oiseaux de Nuit. Love it! I’m pretty happy that the palette is a bit too dark for me – it’s one less thing I’m trying desperately not to buy. 🙂 And Chanel should be thanking Tom Ford because I wonder how many other people read this and thought “oh, $35 seems like a bargain for a lipstick” after seeing TF’s price tag. HAHA!

I would love the highlighter and the eyeliner. It would be fun to try the lipstick and see if it’s one of the rare orange-y reds that looks flattering on me. I think I would get frustrated with the eyeshadows for not being more pigmented. I wish there was a counter near me where I could try Chanel products! At least when I get into Philly every month or so I can see what they’ve got at Blue Mercury.

Darn you for reviewing these! By the way Karen I saw in one of your post a while trying to find a review on some Becca products that you loved the becca Cabrera eyeliner too, I’ve been buying mine from fragrance direct.co.uk.
