Bobbi Brown Lip Crayons: Practical Colors for Work

April 6th, 2008 by Karen 34 Comments

bobbi Brown Lip Crayons post 040608

Depending on your line of work, you may not be able to get away with bright colors like MAC Russian Red. The workaday world forces many of us to tone down our look from time to time. Maybe it’s the makeup gods toying with our emotions, but bold, bright colors like MAC Russian Red aren’t always appropriate at the office. So, what do we do when “The Man” forces us to skip the uber-shiny bright reds and glitter that we love so much?

Enter Bobbi Brown. If you need (or prefer) neutral, practical colors, take a look at the limited edition Lip Crayons ($22) from Bobbi Brown’s latest release, the Quick Face Collection. These chunky monkey, semi-matte lipstick pencils are glitter- and shine-free. They’ll do ya right.

Check out these three conservative, work-friendly shades:

Naked Pink

Nude Berry

Warm Rose

The colors remind me of practical things — four-door sedans, sports bras with hooks, low-heeled walking shoes with rubber soles. They’re functional and get the job done. Sure, none exactly get my heart racing, but being practical has its place, too.

What say you about Bobbi’s lip colors? Yay? Nay?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I feel the nude berry color. It looks…neutral 😀 Just finished baking the cobbler and ate a piece. OMG, that recipe lives up to its name. It’s crack on fire! I used orange zest instead of lemon zest because I want to make it more citrus-y. But it’s something you eat in moderation because I really can see myself getting twice the width if eating too much of it.

Though I tend to prefer peach-toned colors, these rose-toned ones are very, very pretty. Particularly the warm rose which seemed a perfect balanced rose. I may have to take a look on my next trip to my nearest BB-friendly store. ^_^

    Hi Dao,

COBBLER TIME, YAY! I’m glad that you like it. 🙂 Did you end up doing a blueberry/peach combo?

Good idea with the orange zest substitution. I gotta remember to try that next time I make it!

    Hi Jessica D.,

Yup, the rose colors are pretty — and they photographed very well, which I kinda surprised me. I’m more of a shiny lip girl so I can’t resist putting a layer of gloss on these. Hope you’re having a good Sunday!

Beautiful colors! It’s good to know about some attractive neutrals for those times that call for a polished yet understated look! I’m hooking up with these the next time I have a job interview!

I can see them dressing up nicely with a sparkly gloss too!

So true! I think Naked Pink would look very pretty under Galactic Glossimer. 🙂

It was a mixed berry-peach combo with blueberry, strawberry, raspberry, and blackberry (not crackberry :D) It was delish, mainly because the sour strawberries toned down the sweetness pretty much.

    Hey Dao,

YUM! I bet the combo of the different berries takes it to a whole new level. I’m so hungry right now for cobbler, LOL!

so, so lovely! Maybe “practical” but not BORING. I just got some rubber soled shoes, and they are FAB! 🙂 I was eyeing this quick collection from Bobbi Brown, but had kinda ignored the lip crayons. I was thinking of getting the malt cream eyeshadow (I have a couple other shades and love ’em). Maybe I’ll add a lip crayon, since I was gonna order online….thanks for the swatches!

I recently bought ‘Italian Rose’ from the creamy lipstick line and I love it! The staying power is ridiculous and its a great shade for work.. I should try these lip crayons because they are less expensive than the lipstick.

    Hi Megan,

Staying power is about 3-4 hours. It definitely stayed put through my two hour gym session, even when I guzzled a bunch of water from Nalgene water bottle. It’s not drying, either, which is nice.

    Hi Amanda,

You’re welcome! 🙂 Lemme know if you end up getting anything! I know Nordstrom carries Bobbi Brown – right now they’re having a pretty fat GWP sale online — spend $100 and get a cute tote with a bunch of samples. Question for you regarding the cream shadows…do you wear Malt underneath powder shadows? How’s the crease factor?

Ah yes, sensible shoes. I used to solely be a three inch high heel girl, but now since I don’t have to really get dressed up for work I wear rubber soled practical shoes a lot (I live in my adidas shell toes). 🙂

    Hi Shiny,

The lip crayons have decent staying power too, and they didn’t try out the lips (big plus). Are you a Bobbi Brown fan? What else do you like from the line?

Meh! Tis pretty and all, and practicality has its place. Buuuuuut I’m still in the rebelious university student phase. Practicality can bite my buttox. The system will not convince me to conform yet! 😉

well, I haven’t gotten malted (I had the name wrong! oops) yet, but I have glacier (white) and beach honey (shimmery peach). I usually just wear them plain, as more of a wash. sometimes I use urban decay primer potion under em, but sometimes not. They are great, I’ve been really pleased-they last for ages and don’t crease, (at least on me–granted I don’t have very oily lids). and they apply easily/quickly-i use stila’s #11 brush, a big synthetic one which is listed as a concealor brush. I might have to wait a bit one hauling bobbi brown, since when I got shoes I also got a purse. eep!

I’m new to Bobbi Brown since the nearest store that carries that line from my house is an hour away and I can’t buy anything without trying it on.. but yes its my new ‘go to’ lipstick, I wear it to work and can go a whole day without reapplying which is amazing. And none of that gunk on the inner half of your lips either.

I might buy another lippy by her soon but next I want to try those Cargo glossy lipsticks you mentioned in an older post.

    Hi Shiny,

I hate that gunk on the inner half of the lips. It’s been years since I’ve used a Bobbi Lipstick (a friend gave me a palette years ago… I hardly reach for it because I am too lazy to use the brush) but am thinking of trying it again.

Oh yah, I think you’re talking about Plant Love! Those are fun. They’ve got some new ones out, I belive, with tubes decorated in blue and green. They’re pretty cute!
