A Quick Brush Cleaning Tip

February 1st, 2009 by Karen 27 Comments

Rise and shine, ladies! I hope you’re having a lovely Sunday morning. 🙂

I’m just straightening up my work area while I wait for the coffee to brew. Tabs was raising hell last night, running laps around the perimeter of the bedroom in the dark, so El Hub let him out just before dawn. I hope he makes it back in time for kickoff.

Here’s a quick tip for cleaning those makeup brushes (click here for the video).

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

    Hi Karen!

Thats a really great tip! I had never thought of using wet wipes on my brushes before, much quicker than washing them and waiting ages for them to dry.

Thankyou so much for all the really great tips you share with us!

Hey Karen, thanks for this tip! Does it leave the bristles soft? Do you think you can use baby wipes for the same purpose?

    Hi Alison,

Wet Ones wipes rule! Soooo handy for day-to-day brush cleaning. 🙂 I also like the individually wrapped Wet Ones packets, which are also great trips.

I hope you are having a good Sunday so far!

    Hi Nadrah,

Yes, the bristles are soft after the brush dries. I’ve never used baby wipes to clean my brushes but I’m guessing that they’d be great if you don’t plan on using the brush on multiple clients and just yourself! 🙂

I use the Wet Ones too – much more reasonable than buying those pricey Japonesque (or other brands) brush wipes. And so much easier than the spray cleaners.
I also learned to use an Almay non-oily eye makeup remover pad to clean my liner brushes. I usually use LM Cake Liner and the brush benefits from the little cleanse each day.

Cute video! Go Team Tabs 🙂

Ooooooh, that’s such a great idea! I’ve been swiping my eye brushes on regular paper towels till most of the pigment is out, but this sounds way more effective. I will have to pick some up the next trip to the grocery store. =)

    Hey Karen,
what do you think of E.L.F’s makeup brushes? They are so cheap I’m super tempted to buy the set of 12!

I had no idea I could use Wet Wipes on my brushes! Thanks for the tip. Isn’t it gorgeous out today? I was just laying on my bed, where the sun is fully shining, stretched out like a cat! 🙂

Hmmm..you should do a post comparing baby-wipes, face-wipes, make-up remover cloths and wet-wipes and their makeup uses. I hesitate to just swipe baby-wipes on my eyes in case that results in disaster.

Lets all go to Cooper’s Town and watch the football game!

Oooh great! I was just thinking about asking you how you clean your brushes! How do you do a deep clean on your brushes?

    Hi Chris,

I use those for blush cleaning, too! I stock up on them when they’re on sale at the drugstore.

I also use them to remove long-wearing lip color. 🙂

Do you use the LM Flat Eyeliner brush with your Cake Liner?

    Hi Catherine,

If I’m in a real hurry I do that, too.

Oh, and the Wet Ones wipes also come in individually wrapped packets! Very handy for trips! 🙂

    Hi Maeve,

I’ve heard of the brand but haven’t tried their brushes. Have you checked Makeup Alley? I did a quick check in their product review section and saw that these brushes got high marks: Foundation Brush, Eyelash and Brow Wand, Eyeshadow Brush, Professional Eye Shadow Brush.

    Hey Karen,
Just wondering if there could be text about what the video is about. I am at work with no speakers and just wondered if a little text could explain if we have no sound.
