You know it’s going to be one of those days when you wake up and the first thing you do is call on jeebus (or whatever power-that-be of your choice) for some help to get you through the day…and you haven’t even rolled out of bed yet. I guess they call Wednesday hump day for good reason. Anyway I’m running around today but I couldn’t leave ya hanging, so here are a few lovely swatches for you on this lovely Wednesday.

Will be back this afternoon with detailed info and a review. I hope your day is going well and that you’re feeling happy and inspired!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I feel ya! That sounds so much like my morning, it’s not even funny! Hope the day treats you well, and I’ll be looking forward to the review!
January 30th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
Girls, this morning was no joke…I stayed up ’til 5am last night finishing homework. This post was exactly the boost I needed to know that everybody has those days!
January 30th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
Oh lordy! More things for me to buy….gorgeous spring colors! Thanks for sharing Karen!
January 30th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
Wow, those colors look great!
I have a Shu eyeshadow from the fall collection with a delicate fan decoration and I can’t make myself use it and ruin such beautyful design, I fear I’d do the same again with these eyeshadows.
January 30th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
Hi Karen,
Aww poor you we all have those days, i fear tomorrow is going to be mine! I have to be up at 5am to leave my house at 6
then have a lovely day of healthcare law lectures! joy!
How strange i hated every one of those colours in the pallet but really like them on the skin! They looked really harsh and matte but they are so much softer on the skin. Hmm im going to have to hunt down a shu counter near to me!

omg those are so pretty! is the white flower in the shadow or on the case? Please do give a in depth review as well as a look too!
January 30th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
Very spring and Easter-ly! Fun.
January 30th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
oh my, those are GORGEOUS! thanks for sharing. hope your day got easier.
January 30th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Wow, the swatches remind me of those fatty chalk sticks we used to draw hopscotch boxes as a kid! It’ll be fun to see what looks you create with this collection!
January 30th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
It could be worse. This was my news this morning, “Thousands of students are getting the day off after a storm moved through West Michigan Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. More than 500 schools and businesses were closed. Several inches of snow, combined with strong winds, created slick roads and poor visibility. Slideoffs and whiteout conditions were reported all across the area.”
My hubby calls home 3 minutes after leaving for work and tells me, “Be really careful when you leave, because it’s all ice on the road. There wasn’t any traffic as I pulled out of the driveway, so I gunned it to see how slippery it was… and did a 360 in front of our house.” MEN!
Oh I just love some pretty packaging. I’m thinking sun stream and earth brown would look lovely on you!
January 30th, 2008 at 6:43 pm
I’m in Australia so it’s Thursday lunchtime here… hump day been and gone!
I’ve not commented before but was inspired to with the very gorgeous swatches - looked kind of unwearable until I saw them. Would love to see a face of the day using them.
January 30th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
OH WOW!!! It is super duper Cute!!! I have to run to the Shu Uemura and see if we have it here!!!! Thanks for this, I have a lazy day as well
January 30th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
OH tell me about it! It’s rainy and gloomy in nyc and it was such a dread to get out of bed today.
The blush I mentioned before is actually from Shu Uemura, not Lancome, but Lancome owns Shu, so it’s in their discount store. It’s called the Sierra Marble. I actually tried it on yesterday. It came out very nice!!!! Thanks for recommanding Shu Glow-On blushes! Now I look healthy and tanned.. What a way to pick yourself up on a rainy wednesday, eh?
January 30th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
Hmmm! I am so digging the green and brown ones.
Also, I wish to express admiration for the artwork decorating the site. Especially the tabby cat. What’s the story behind the kitty? if it doesn’t have one…you should totally create one.
Example. “Miss Brown Tabby was found abandoned at the front door of a MAC store. She was raised by the MA’s and loves pigment colours.” *lol*
January 31st, 2008 at 5:51 am
Karen, I think you have just inspired me to go and have a look see at that collection. Those colors are gorgeous! Esp on your tanned skin!
January 31st, 2008 at 1:13 pm
Hi Glosslizard,
I hope your day has been treating you well, too! I am so over this rain though…
I have an entire host of things to review from the Shu spring line and a FOTD to do. My eyes have been puffy because of allergies, though, which is why I haven’t posted any looks or tutorials this week!
BTW, how are you liking that brown Shu shadow?
January 31st, 2008 at 1:14 pm
Hi LaurenIvy,
Rock on with your studious self! Did you have a test or a big presentation? Remember you have to baby your body after you pull those all nighters…
I hope you are feeling better today! Anything exciting lined up for the weekend?
January 31st, 2008 at 1:15 pm
Hi Vanessa,
Aren’t they pretty? I had a feeling you would like ‘em.
BTW, I might be in LA in March! Maybe we can meet for coffee or something
January 31st, 2008 at 1:17 pm
Hi Stregalice,
Yeah, I here ya. The shadows did NOT look like the top picture after I swatched them and played with them. I’ll have to post the “after” picture when I do the rest of this review. The pretty leaf design is gone baby, gone!
However, these colors are totally worth it. I’m not usually a pastels kinda girl, but they are super easy to use!
January 31st, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Hi Holly,
They are *very* pretty, I think you’ll like ‘em. The white gives the colors a soft shimmer. I think Shu does the best shimmers though, because the sparkle/shimmer isn’t too disco or in your face.
How were the health care lectures?
January 31st, 2008 at 1:21 pm
Hi EtherealPrey,
For sure, I’ll do an in-depth review. I’ve been juggling a lot of stuff (NY Fashion Week’s coming up) but I will have more time tomorrow to talk more about the shadows and other stuff from the Spring line.
Oh, and the flower is on the shadow, not the case! Sadly, once I swatched them they no longer looked as cute as they did in the first picture! Oh well, such is the price to pay!
January 31st, 2008 at 1:28 pm
Hi Mrs. Lynne,
AHHH spring! I’m so jonsing for spring weather like you wouldn’t believe. It’s been rainy and cold here and so depressing…you know how it is in the Bay from Feb-April. Gray and BLAHHHH!
January 31st, 2008 at 1:29 pm
Thanks Amanda,
Funny thing is, my day got worse after I put that post up. But I did some retail therapy at the MAC counter after work, and that helped a TON!
I will have more swatches and stuff from the rest of the spring line up soon, hopefully tomorrow.
Hope you are having a good day so far!
January 31st, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Hi Lilan,
Ahhh, I love those fatty chalk sticks! Seriously, I think we should get some of those at work and be sent outside to do chalk drawing during breaks. I think it would change society as a whole if we all got recess and nap time, too!
January 31st, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Hi Kelly,
Yikes! And I thought our weather here in the SF Bay Area was bad! You know, you should reward yourself for enduring such harsh conditions. How about some eye shadow?
I’ve never been to Michigan. I’ve heard that people actually surf on the waves from the Great Lakes, though. That’s wild!
January 31st, 2008 at 1:34 pm
Hi Suze!
G’Day! I have a face of the day (maybe a tutorial if I have time) lined up for most of the spring Shu line.
I love everything - so wearable, and very pretty! I hope to get that up tomorrow or Saturday.
January 31st, 2008 at 1:35 pm
Hi Nikki!
You are welcome. Let me know what you get and if you like it. Oh, take a looksy at the tri-color pencils. They are super duper cute!
January 31st, 2008 at 1:37 pm
Hi Stephanie,
Ahh, you hearty east coasters! I give you all mad props for surviving that weather. I’m such a wimp - the moment it dips into the 40s here I’m non-functional.
I’m so glad that you dig the blush! Really, blush is one of those things that I discovered late in my makeup life. For many years I was terrified of it. Now I can’t live without it. I kinda feel like tis my personal mission to get everyone to try it at least once. It does so much to brighten up the face!
January 31st, 2008 at 1:41 pm
Hi Tekoa,
LOL! The blog cat loosely resembles my neighbor’s fat ass tabby cat (we have a dysfunctional love/hate relationship).
I like to think of the blog cat as a boy. He’s kind of my nemesis, too, because he’s always making fun of me and he looks so darn grumpy!
January 31st, 2008 at 1:41 pm
Thank you Krasevayadancer! I hope you check ‘em out! You won’t be disappointed.
January 31st, 2008 at 1:54 pm
Hi Karen,
I have actually finally found a shu close(ish) to me so i think this weekend will involve a trip there! I wanted to ask some advice from you actually, i need a new blusher and am torn between the nars and the shu, which would you say is the best??
Healthcare was less painful than i thought lol, its always fun to learn about people sueing the government for refusing them medical treatment lol!
January 31st, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Hi Holly,
I like both of them for different reasons. I think Shu is great for natural looks. The quality really is amazing, because I never feel like they sit on my skin. The color literally feels like it melts right in, so it never looks harsh. However, Nars has got some super sexy blush colors (Amour and Torrid are my favorites). If you want natural, def go for Shu. But if you want blushes that are more for party looks, Nars is great!
January 31st, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Thanks for that Karen it really helps, i think i will go with the shu then, i have a great Chanel for a more dramatic look so i really want something natural and quality is the most important factor of all. Im stepping out of my Chanel comfort zone so i dont want to be dissapointed!!
January 31st, 2008 at 3:11 pm
Oh I need some milk and cookies followed by nap time right now!
Are you going to LA Fashion Week with TB in March? I think I might go and would love to chat it up with you there!
January 31st, 2008 at 3:20 pm
You’re welcome, Holly. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
Be careful with the packaging though - that’s the only drawback. It can be a little tricky (well, maybe just for me because I’m a klutz!)
January 31st, 2008 at 3:21 pm
Hi Lilan,
Yeah, I’d kill for a warm Black and White cookie from Specialty’s in downtown SF. I don’t really miss working in the City but I do miss the culinary break treats I used to have within walking distance.
As for LA, I’ll probably be going!
January 31st, 2008 at 3:40 pm
So pretty! How would you say this yellow compares to the other yellow Shu Uemura shadow you showed before? I really like the way this looks! Which would you suggest?
January 31st, 2008 at 4:56 pm
Hi Karen!
(Hi Holly! Hope the weather where you are is better than ours right now! :))
I am so done with this rain too! Yesterday’s sun break was so nice, but so short!
I am loving the Shu brown, it really jazzes up a neutral eye! So far I’ve used it with Nars’ Abyssinia single, Clinique’s Black Truffle quad, and even the MAC golden olive pigment! Beautiful! I was actually waffling between the brown I got and the Earth Brown! The only reason I decided against the EB was because I saw the tester where the pretty pattern had worn off and the neutral brown won by a hair! After looking at your swatches though, I’m really coveting the Spring Breeze!
Sorry to hear about your allergies!
Hope your eyes are bright and puff-free again in no time!
P.S. I was having a little trouble posting, so I apologize in advance if several various incarnations of this comment pop up!
January 31st, 2008 at 5:01 pm
Hi Mariah,
This one is less gold, for sure. Both are pretty though! While I like both, I’m a sucker for golds so the other one is just oh-so-slightly ahead.
January 31st, 2008 at 5:03 pm
Hi Glosslizard,
I dunno what happened, earlier…the spam filter is funny sometimes.
Oh the Spring Breeze is VERY PRETTY. And normally purples kinda scare me, but this was 100% not scary!
Gumbo sounds great. My tummy is rumbling like craaaaazy right now.
January 31st, 2008 at 8:46 pm
Karen,
You’re so right. I think I’m getting a pedi this weekend because you know what I got after putting my body through the ringer for school’s sake? A wicked cold! I pray that it’s gone by Saturday, me and my homies are hitting up a sale at this vintage store. Then, SuperBowl Sunday will be upon us!
January 31st, 2008 at 8:56 pm
Hi LaurenIvy,
Wow, is it Super Bowl time already? It just seemed like yesterday was the holidays!
Pedicure is a good idea for this weekend! I need one badly. I’m pretty good about skin, hair and makeup maintenance, but I need a good dose of TOUGH LOVE when it comes to my nails.
Anyway, I hope you feel better so you can be all healed for your shopping trip. I’m sure you’re drinking water and taking vitamin C and all that.
February 1st, 2008 at 1:32 am
Hey Karen!
You know those eyeshadows look beautiful in the case, but don’t look very pigmented on the skin. Are the IRs? Are any of them MEs?
I am a sucker with a capital SUCK when it comes to Shu of course…
although I am trying to be good…
