MAC Neon Orange on Karen of Makeup and Beauty Blog

You don’t have to be a crazy cat lady (or a rotund tabby cat with a low-hanging belly) to appreciate a strong cat eye liner look with bold lips. It’s an enduring, timeless combination that looks great on almost everyone.

The new 19-piece MAC Stylishly Yours collection, a limited edition release for eyes, lips and face (pieces $14-22 each), embodies this tried-and-true classic in a modernized, 21st century way.

The collection purrs onto MAC counters, stores and maccosmetics.com on December 26 and stays put through January 11, 2011. Tabs, being the ho for brights that he is, can’t wait.

With Stylishly Yours, MAC offers fans fun, fast ways to give makeup looks a shot of dramatic color (without having to think too hard). Eyes in the look are kept simple, clean, and simultaneously dramatic with matte black and burgundy gel liner and mascara. Bright coral, pink, magenta, red and violet leap onto lips and cheeks in lipsticks, cream blushes (they double as lip colors, too!) and loose pigments with creamy and shimmery finishes. But that’s not all — two pink pressed highlighting powders imbue faces with a lovely soft sheen.

What I really like about the release are how the brights are both sophisticated and easy to use.

When you know you want to wear something bold but don’t want to invest the time into a super complex drag queen eye with teal, gold and purple, you could slip into one of these lipsticks instead, top it off with a layer of Clear Lipglass, and strut out the door.

Or, you could quickly do a swipe of thick burgundy cat eye liner with the blackened plum Fluidline in Dark Diversion, add a few layers of the burgundy New Hue Zoom Lash Mascara to your lashes, and blend one of the Cream Colour Bases (Virgin Isle’s my fave!) on your cheeks and lips.

I HAVE been eyeballing that dark diversion. Now that I’ve seen some of these other colors, I will definitely be making a trip down to the MAC store the day after Christmas. I really like that movie star red.

I’m more into cham-pale, but I think I’ll get movie star red, after seeing it on you. And a beauty powder or two. I think I have virgin isle already, but I gotta check. Do you know if it’s a repromote?

  3. Katie Coleman says:

I pre-ordered the Dark Diversion Fluidline and the Zoom Lash in New Hue :0) I am a HUGE fan of MAC’s deep purples!! They seem to be the only ones that are pigmented enough to not look brown on my NC30 skin :0)

Thanks for the great swatches Karen!!

  4. Kristen says:

I want 3 lipsticks from this collection. All but Neon Orange. i just can’t see myself rocking an orange lipstick.

  5. snoopysteph says:

Nothing really grabs me from this collection – I think the colors are too far outside my comfort zone and I don’t really use the cream colour base I already own. Although Dark Diversion & Lilac pigment are both pretty…but neither are products I’d use regularly. I’ll save my $ for Chanel! 😀

  6. Rae says:

Man, I wish I could pull of lips that bright — Movie Star Red looks *amazing* on you! 🙂

  7. Nina says:

i want follow your fancy and new fixation and maybe a couple of the cream color bases – i love using them as a base for blush!

  8. Nora says:

Karen, I don’t know what specifically, if anything, you did different for this look, but it looks ASTOUNDING on you. You look so bright-eyed! So clean and simple and beautiful. Did you use a highlighter or something around your eyes?

  9. Appu says:

I love dark diversion! Overall, I like Cham Pale better though 🙂

I’m all over Dark Diversion. Would have preferred more of a purple to go with those brights, but I’ll take a nice shimmery plum.

  13. Elle says:

    I need that purple fluidline!

  14. As usual, I’m eyeing the lipsticks, but the burgundy fluidline looks very interesting as well.

As for the collection, it’s been a while since I’ve wanted anything from MAC’s LE but I plan to get
Virgin Isle and Tickle Me Pink. I want the VI ever since I read that it is used on Joan from Mad Men. hahaha

  17. OMFG I love this collection! I need ‘movie star’ red and ‘virgin isle’ CBB.

  18. Mette says:

    I really want Virgin isle!!!

  19. Karen B says:

Pretty pretty pretty 🙂 I’m totally going for the pin-up red lip-cat linder combo for New Year’s eve. Got myself some falsies which will look great with my Blacktrack 🙂

Karen, the orange and movie star red look GORGE on you!! I think you should do these bright lips and simple cat-eyes more–your coloring is perfect for them. =)

  21. Saffron says:

This collection broke my poor heart: see, I have pale skin and copper red hair and I LOVE the contrast of purple lipstick with my hair, but rebel is a little gothy on my pale skin and the lavender shades just don’t have enough purple in them to give the high contrast pop I’m looking for. So I saw the advert for this with the style curve lipstick and have been hoppin with anticipation ever since, but now that I see swatches of it, it comes out a lot more magenta than purple. Not that I don’t enjoy rocking a magenta lipstick but it’s not what I was expecting from the tube.

I have some terribly first world problems. 😛

The dark diversion is lovely, it will pair beautifully with my homebrew rebel/lavender lipstick mix until MAC answers my prayers and gives me midtone purple in a tube. ><

  22. shontay says:

You look stunning Karen. What are you wearing on your lips in the first pic? Neon Orange? I have a mufe and ysl orange lippie but I may need this one also.

I went to the pro store and bought Virgin Isle, Madly Magenta and Too Chic. I love them all.

  23. Tina says:

OMGeeeee Karen!! You look super gorgeous Karen! That red lip just *POPS*!!

  24. Windie says:

You’re makeup here has left me coveting the products and umfathomably envious of how beautiful you look!
Could you please do a tutorial? I will be in a wedding in January and the look you created will complement my dress.

  25. Windie says:

Forgot to ask, what eyeshadow are you wearing?

  26. Arummmanis says:

    Hi Karen,

Wow…the lipstick Movie Star Red. I am so getting that. Do you think the bold red look is an fotd I can pull of for work? Cnsidering that I am a teacher.

  27. MAUI says:

OMG! I live everything about this collection. I do have most of it but still, lol. Virgin isle is my all time favorite cream color base. That’s my on-the-go pick almost everyday.

  28. I love this collection. I only bought Tickle Me Pink CCB so far since I’m trying to cut down on spending, but I am also drawn to Movie Star Red as it gives my lips a just bitten look when used as a lip stain, and Virgin Isle because its just a gorgeous coral!

  29. Sonja says:
