Kitty Kisses From Paul & Joe: The Paul & Joe Fall 2015 Lipstick CS in Cafe Parisien, Coffee Cherry and Cafe Espresso

July 22nd, 2015 by Karen 42 Comments

Paul & Joe Fall 2015 Lipstick CS (three new limited edition shades, $20 each)

To say that I’m sweet on these three new limited edition fall lipsticks and refillable lipstick cases from Paul & Joe would be both a grievous understatement of ridiculous proportions, and incredibly apt, because, hello! — TEH KITTEHS.

But also because the lipsticks are magically made/manufactured using an old Japanese candy-making technique called Kintarō-ame, which involves layers of candy (or makeup) rolled together. In this case, the innermost cylinder is shaped like a feline’s face.

Which is wondrous, delightful and incredibly amazing. 🙂

The candy-making process also means that the interior kitty tubes are still visible all the way down to the bottom of the bullets — a fact that greatly pleases my makeup-obsessed, cat-loving heart.

Lipstick CS ingredients and benefits

  • Cocoa Seed Butter — Emollient
  • Jojoba Seed Oil — Emollient
  • Lavender Oil — Emollient
  • Orange Flower Water — Moisturizer
  • White Lily Extract — Moisturizer and prevents irritation
  • paul joe fall 2015 lipstick

I also think it’s very cool how the center cat cylinders blend so well with their surrounding lipstick colors and how the two punchier tubes — Coffee Cherry 094 (the red with a nude beige in the center) and Cafe Parisien 093 (the hot pink with a milky beige in the center) — create a subtle gradient effect when you apply them.

But for the gradient effect to really work well, you have to refrain from rubbing your lips together, which is something I impulsively do. Not the end of the world, though, because I also like how these look when they’re blended together.

And let me tell ya, it is HARD to not rub my lips together when I wear these because of how good they feel. They’re smooth and incredibly moisturizing (I half expected to see catnip among the list of ingredients).

Much like the MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencils, they feel slick and light (but still very moisturizing), and I’m a big fan of the old-fashioned flavor and scent, which remind me of the French violet hard candies my grandma would get me from the Asian store back in the day (NOM).

Wear time-wise, they’re again similar to the MAC Patentpolishes. I get about two or three hours.

The Paul & Joe Lipstick CS bullet refills (from the gold tube part up to the wax bullets) are $20 each, and the refillable Lipstick CS cases (the bottom part of the tube and the cover) are $7 each. They’ll be available for a limited time online and at Paul & Joe counters August 2015.

PRICE: $20 for each of the three fall lipsticks and $7 for each case
AVAILABILITY: Limited edition, coming August 2015 to Paul & Joe counters and online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A- (super cute and moisturizing, but a limited wear time)

OMG….those are so cute. I would have to buy a back up that I would never use because I LOVE the kitties in the center! I was one of those weird kids who would get cute Japanese stationary and never use them because it was so cute.

I had a feeling you’d like this. And I totally understand about wanting a backup. I bought the cat head shaped lipstick from Paul & Joe from a while back, and I can’t bring myself to actually use them! I take them out every once in a while to admire them. LOL!

Do you think Tulip would approve?

Tulip would totally approve! She might even hide it under the bed.
Tulip was freaked out by the earthquake the other day and so was Jazmine. I saw Jazmine flat as a pancake on the floor holding on for dear life and Tulip was scared in the front window.

Wait, there was an earthquake?! We didn’t feel it up here in the North Bay. Are you OK?

There was an earthquake on Tuesday morning at around 2:50 in Fremont. It was a small quake but still scared the cats.

Oh my gosh, poor things! I just hope that if one happens that I’ll be able to find Tabs and grab him. At any given time he’s hiding in random spots in the condo. We have two floors and it’s not always easy to find him.

Next time in the East Bay maybe we can meet for coffee or something! That would be fun. 🙂

Jazmine knew to come into the room but I had to search out and find Tulip. She has her typical spots that she hangs out at the house so she’s easy to find plus she meows really loud. I use this app on my iphone to get her to come out from under the bed. She doesn’t like the sound of other cats so she always comes out.

Totally…next time you are in the East Bay let me know and we can meet for coffee. I live in Union City and there are plenty of places to go. It would totally be fun 🙂

Is it the Cat-o-Matic app? Sometimes I use that to give Tabs something to do. He likes to find the other kitties!

OK, next time I’m in town and have time to hang out I’ll let you know. 🙂

These are so cute I can’t even! I’ve never bought any of these because I probably can’t bring myself to use it, and I am not much of a collector. I think I’ll break down and buy a couple one day tho!

        Hey Sunny,

This one’s got all the cat ladies going crazy, LOL! If you do end up grabbing one I have to say that I love the light neutral shade. It’s very YLBB. You’ll get a lot of use out of it.

Oh yeah, did you notice the tabbies on the tube?

I need these, especially Parisian and Espresso! Some of family members are severely allergic to cats, which gives me kitty withdrawals. 🙁 I’m going to need duplicates though, as these are so adorable there’s a very good chance I would never use them.

        Hi Kelly!

The great thing about these is that I think you’ll get so much use out of the ones you’ll end up wearing. The colors are easy to wear and they’re just so darn moisturizing! 🙂

Hope you had a nice Wednesday. Anything exciting going on in your neck of the woods?

That’s great to hear, as my lips tend to be on the drier side. I might also stick some of these in my family and friend’s Christmas gifts this year, they’re just too cute!

It’s been a pretty mellow day, just editing posts and watching X-Files on Netflix. I’m heading over to Disneyland in an hour or so, the park is open till midnight today. One of the benefits to being a premium passholder, you can go whenever you want! 🙂

I feel your pain! My lips are naturally very dry, so lots of moisture is always a good thing. Excellent idea to stock up on these for Christmas gifts! I might have to do the same.

Oooh, X-Files! Are you going to watch the new movie when it comes out?

I hope you had fun at Disneyland. 🙂

Yes, lip scrubs and lip masks are our friends! I keep a Lush lip scrub and tube of Carmex in my purse, you never know when you’ll need it. Have you tried the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask?

I absolutely love science-mystery shows, but for some reason I never watched X-Files! You could say it was “before my time”, I guess. I’m only midway through Season 2, but I’m watching at least 2 episodes daily, so I should be ready by January. 🙂

Thank you, it was! Really crowded, but that’s to be expected in July. The new Matterhorn is SO much fun, not nearly as rough, and for the 60th they have all these little “photo ops” set up at both parks! There’s one where you’re scaling the Matterhorn, another you’re riding the roller coaster at California Adventure; I believe there are 6 in total.

I felt the same way! You’ll freak out a little when you see them up close. The tiny little whiskers on the kitties get me every single time!

I hope you had a nice day. Has the weather been cooler down there? It was a very cool day here in Northern California.

We’ve had a storm this week-end here, and it’s been warm and unusually humid since then. Pretty uncomfortable!

It’s been weirdly humid up here too. No storms though! I heard that this is all a run-up to a major El Nino winter. Apparently things are going to get cray in the cold months!

Can you use these without the extra $7 for the cardboard wrapping? (Yikes! Next they’ll make you buy the part that rolls them up separately.)

        Hi Kirsten,

I guess you could, although you’d still want to get some type of packaging to protect the lipstick bullet. The $7 case is reusable, so when you finish your lipstick you can always fill it with another shade.

It’s kind of nice, because those who like to depot lipsticks don’t have to buy the packaging. Although I personally wouldn’t depot something with a design like this, I would a solid lipstick. The packaging is really inexpensive at $7. I usually see it the other way around: The tubes are expensive and the refills are cheaper.

Are the tubes plastic, or plastic with cardboard?

Agreed 100%! And the rolled candy method is fascinating. I probably thought about that 10x during the day. Kitties all the way to the bottom – it doesn’t get any better. 🙂

PS I’m sorry Tabs has been bitey lately. I blame his friskiness on the leash-busting pursuit incident. I think it put a little bruiser swagger in him. 🙂

Hi, in your pics the Coffee Cherry looks more fuschia than red. Would you say that’s how it swatches? I am very cool toned and have a hard time wearing warm toned reds. Wondering if it’s cool toned or neutral or warm?
