Looking for Some Haute Stuff… In New Jersey! The NYX Haute Jersey Leopard Couture Kit

Behold the rise of New Jersey!

Seriously, who knew New Jersey was such an entertaining place? I had no idea, yet there it is, rising to the top of the reality TV charts like a Creature from the Bronze Lagoon!

Before geography, I thought New Jersey was just the name of a Bon Jovi album (I kid), but now I know better.

SIDE NOTE: I wonder how John feels about the whole Snooks/Jionni (“JIONNI!”) debacle and if he watches the Jersey Shore, Jerseylicious and/or Real Housewives of New Jersey…

New JerseyIt’s also the Garden State, and Jersey girls are inspiring everything from TV shows to makeup. Makeup like the new NYX Haute Jersey Leopard Couture kit ($25).

The palette’s colors are supposed to complement gals with shore-worthy tans, but I dunno… I usually fall hard for NYX shadows, but these seem awfully light on pigment (which considering the Jersey tie in, I did not expect). I had to really pack ’em on, AND use a flash, to be able to see them well in these swatches, and the textures look surprisingly chalky and powdery on my skin.

I prefer the blushes, bronzer and leopard highlighter here. None of them have the finest milled powders I’ve ever seen, but they feel soft and deposit plenty o’ pigment, which is always a plus.

As for the two glosses, they’re sheer, non-sticky and come sans any added flavors or scents.

I’ve always appreciated NYX’s fun approach to makeup and their great prices, but I think there’s still a little room for improvement here. The face, cheek and lip products certainly deliver, but I think the eye products aren’t quite up to the standard set by some of the NYX eyeshadows I’ve tried in the past.

PRICE: $25

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

P.S. Well, it looks like we made it! 🙂 Are you doing anything fun this weekend? I feel like I should do something just to take advantage of the fact that it’s not supposed to rain this weekend. Hmm… Any ideas?

Well, the good news is that you’ve finally posted about something I don’t feel I HAVE to have, haha.

Oh, I just had a question for you. I’ve been trying to make healthy changes in my life in regards to my eating habits. You always post delicious looking healthy meals. Do you have a favorite recipe book or website? I like eating healthy, but my problem is I get tired of eating the same thing all the time, which is why I usually fail my “eating healthy” kicks because I get tired of eating salads for every meal. I just need some inspiration!

Wow, even for the price I think those shadows are pretty awful and make the other half unworthy of the money, but I agree on the cool concept.

I am indeed ready for the weekend, and will be celebrating my fabulous news: I GOT A JOB TODAY!!!

The color blush looks nice, but the eyeshadows look like a miss for me. =/

I was shocked to see the poorly pigmented eyeshadows! Now I wish they will make only that one half of the palette for sale! Lol!

Yeah this is very un-Jersey. My husband is from NJ and I’ve visited the Garden State a few times. I am not getting a Jersey vibe from this palette.

Disappointing! I’m sure Olivia, from Jerseylicious, would agree!

The Snooki part made me laugh.
My dad actually likes her! My brother loves to say “And snooki in this corner standing at 4’9,..5’1 with the poof!”. ohh family…

I thought these were rather wimpy on the pigment side when I saw the pics. Shame on you, NYX. Would Snooki ever get her smokey eyes with this? I think not. Tsk tsk, NYX.

As a life long resident of the Garden State, I’m already irked that people think our state is no more than crazy, loud mouthed orange witches and their block headed men. NYX could’ve at least made the pallette awesome. Ugh.

      Hi Erryn,

I hope I didn’t give that impression. I’ve actually been to New Jersey for a wedding and thought it was a beautiful place. I guess every state has its moments in the pop culture doghouse.

Your description wasn’t the problem at all! Jersey has always been unfairly marginalized (Armpit of America?!?) and Those shows aren’t helping matters.

    Karen,
Olivia from Jerseylicious actually used this in an episode. However I don’t trust her as she really likes to pack on the shadows. Have you seen that show? It’s on another level of awesomeness! You MUST see Tracy’s nails and hair…OMG!!!!
