Lancôme’s L’Absolu Nu Lipstick Really Shines for a Split Second

Published in: Makeup, Product Reviews

Whatever you do, keep flaky lips far, far away from the Lancôme L’Absolu Nu lipsticks ($29).

Lancôme’s new lippies come in 16 shiny, translucent shades that look and feel like they were influenced by the delectable $28 Dior Addicts, with a similarly slick, ultra-thin texture.

When I applied a layer of shimmery Coral Sand (the one with silver micro-glitter shown at the top) yesterday morning, I didn’t realize how dry my pucker was at the time, and Coral Sand was not forgiving at all. It latched on to every little flake, emphasizing the facts that 1) I really needed to exfoliate, and 2) I was probably more than a little dehydrated.

But after I scrubbed my lips with Lush Lip Scrub and had a glass of water, L’Absolu looked much better. No more flakes, and my kisser shined like freshly polished jewelry with a slight coral tint.

The strong lip-sticky fragrance, a cross between baby powder and roses, mellows out after about 15 minutes, which is great because that’s right around the time I think it would have gotten annoying, LOL!

I wish L’Absolu Nu’s thin, smooth texture lasted longer than it does, because after about 90 minutes, I’d rubbed most of it away. That’s a bit of a bummer for $29, even though I really like this shade.

PRICE: $29 each
AVAILABILITY: At Lancôme stores, counters and also online

I like giraffes but…

Remember that cute little Kate Spade wallet with the giraffe print I was drooling over a few weeks ago? Well, Kate put the same print on a dress! 🙂

Cover yourself in giraffes from head-to-toe with the Two By Two Dana Dress ($325). LOL! Kudos to Kate for being so quirky, but I dunno. Is there a cap on the number of giraffes one can have on her body if she’s older than, say, eight? I fear my max is about three.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

P.S. Happy hump day!

I *never* hydrate enough, so I’m sure these would make my lips look like death lipsticked over! On an unrelated side note (and perhaps you’ve already mentioned this in any previous posts where you’ve worn it) where did you get your necklace? The flower and pearl combination looks fab! *grabby hands!*

I agree, I love your necklace!

      • Karen says:

        Hi Stephanie and Larie,

I got it a couple months ago at Forever 21 because it was kinda Chanel-esque!

Unfortunately I don’t think they have it anymore. I like them for their super cheap jewelry, but it doesn’t last for long. Stuff falls apart really fast.

        • Stephanie says:

          Hi Karen!

I always remember that Forever 21 has cute (and cheaply priced!) jewelry AFTER I’ve already left the mall! I have to run to there this afternoon to pick up some last minute bday pressies for the hubby, so maybe I’ll take a peak just to see what they’ve got…

          • Karen says:

Sweet! Have fun at the mall… let me know if you pick anything cute up so I can start haunting my nearby Forever 21 too, LOL!

  2. Shannon says:

It looks gorgeous, but I agree. 90 minutes of weartime for $29 seems a little ridiculous.

  3. TrishaL says:

lol if only she had the matching purse and wallet. Her ouftit would be complete 🙂
Love the print as well, but yeah on an entire oufit, a bit much.

  4. That wallet was cute….but a whole giraffe dress? Unless I was on a safari in Africa, I’ll pass.

90 minutes? No thanks. Give Lancome’s L’absolu Rouge line a shot. They’re $29 each also, but they completely smooth over imperfections and last forever! They’re worth every penny of their hefty price tag.

  6. Paris B says:

I was interested in these but now less so. I love the Dior Addicts so I’d probably just stick with those and look to the absolu rouge instead which are lovely!

    • Karen says:

Both have positives, but yeah, I love the Dior Addicts too. Whenever I take out the lipstick case I’m like, “Ahh!” They kinda make me feel special, ya know?

  7. NeenaJ says:

I love my Dior Addict lipsticks ( I have Garconne and Granville so far). Thanks for not making me want to stray!

  8. Nina says:

    the color is lovely! <3

    • Karen says:

      Hey girlie,

How are you doing today? Tabs sends kisses and purrs and hope you’re feeling better.

      • Nina says:

i still havent had a chance to go to the doctor, we’re really busy for some reason.

the earache kinda died down a bit, but its still there.

thank you Karen & Tabs <3

  9. Megan says:

I went to a Kate Spade store when I was on vacation last week.

The whole place was orange, rattan, and giraffes.

I felt like I was on a preppy safari.

  10. Heidi says:

Missy is on my lap and would like to state that wearing that much of an animal motif is tres tacky, unless of course we’re talking about cats, in which case the sky’s the limit!

So this lipstick is expensive, doesn’t last long, and makes imperfections stand out? No, thanks. The color is very very nice, though.

    • Karen says:

Missy has great taste, so I trust her judgement thoroughly!

Is it raining up there? It is down here. I fear it’s only a matter of time before Edward Scissorpaws comes out to “play.”

      • Heidi says:

Yep, it rained this morning, and it definitely made Missy cranky, too. Fortunately her crankiness usually just consists of running around, clawing the carpet, and occasionally reaching up and wacking me in the leg to express her displeasure with the weather, which is, of course, my fault.

  11. kana says:

i love the color and just like the other girls, i love your necklace! i’m thinking of treating myself to f21 trip later today to look at some good sales. hmmm i tend to always have dry lips.. must stay away! :/

    • Karen says:

Have fun! They have a lot of cute things, and I’ve found some nice staples. 🙂 Oh — I’ve found that the pieces with little gems tend to fall apart faster (they’re always coming off!).

  12. Trisha says:

I hate when lipstick sticks to flakes like that. I mean, my lips will seem just fine, and they I’ll put on certain sticks or glosses and be like, “OMG, what’s wrong with my lips?!” It’s weird.

That dress is cute, but I feel like it can be pulled off only by certain people. Like my friend Jessica, who had green hair in high school and wore a short lace dress with red skulls to our HS graduation. Quirky people can handle mucho giraffes.

  14. snoopysteph says:

It’s such a pretty color! I’ve never tried anything from Lancome before…nor I have I tried Dior Addict lipstick, can you believe that? Every time I look at the color selection I get overwhelmed and walk away, lol!

    Happy Wednesday, Karen!

    • Karen says:

      Hey Steph,

It feels like forever since I’ve talked to you! Are things better for you now that tax season is over? I hope so.

Anyway, I totally understand about getting overwhelmed with Dior lipsticks… there’s just so many of them. Are you a pink kinda girl? If you are 972 and 465 might be cute:

      • snoopysteph says:

That’s because it HAS been forever since we talked! 😀 The huge monkey on my back (aka “tax season”) is finally gone, although I still have a lot on my plate, work-wise. At least I don’t have the daily crush of clients dropping off paperwork & the impending doom of tax day to give me headaches.

I went to San Diego shortly after tax day for a girls weekend (a friend is getting married in August) and then my son & I made a trip to Las Vegas (I hosted a baby shower for my bff) and down to Arizona to visit my family for a few days. There are a few more travel plans on my agenda through September (including SINGAPORE!!) as well as birthdays & other fun stuff.

I usually only wear pinks on my lips so I’ll definitely be checking out those shades the next time I hit the mall!

  15. Evelyn says:

I bought a Nu in Evening Lace but after the color wore off I looked in the mirror and found glitter up my face. lol It had migrated from the lipstick! eep!

  16. gio says:

The color is very pretty but what a shame it lasts so little. And it emphasizes imperfection too? I expected better from such an expensive lipstick,

im surprised that it exacerbated your dry lips. shiney stuff usually hides them while the dryer matte items make them more noticeable.

  20. Kim says:

Lancome’s been kind of disappointing lately, haven’t they? I love Hypnose, as you know, but haven’t used any of their other stuff.

Oh, I’m a huge fan of giraffes (mostly the petite lap giraffe) but this is too much for me. I’m not super into patterns on clothes anyway, so I may not be the best judge. I loved her giraffe bag. Not so much on the dress, though. 🙂

  21. Reena says:

I’ve been thinking of buying Lancome’s Nu, but after reading your review, I’m kinda thinking twice about buying. I looove the color though, but staying power is always essential for me. It’s kind of a bummer for $29. 🙁 I do love Lancome though…

  22. Hazel says:

i love that color!!! too bad about the price though! i’d love to find dupes for this~
