Ever since an “incident” about a decade ago involving free cosmopolitans (long story short, but I hadn’t eaten anything beforehand and weighed 98 pounds at the time), I haven’t been a big boozer, but I am a total lush (as you well know) when it comes to makeup.
I can’t restrain myself around colors like Becca Glossy Lip Tint in Mimosa ($23).
Seeing how I only just recently got wind of shimmery golden bronze Mimosa, it might be a little premature to declare it “The best Becca Glossy Lip Tint evah.”
But I’m still doing it. 🙂
Like Becca’s other Glossy Lip Tints in Frappe, Colada and Cherry Bomb, Mimosa lavishes lips in wet, glossy color, but it’s even more pigmented and hydrating on the lips. As a matter of fact, with Mimosa I haven’t felt the need to start with a layer of lip balm worn underneath.
Doesn’t the color fit the season? Here I’m wearing it (the pic up top) with a wash of Boots Khaki eyeshadow, but I can also see it looking lovely with eye colors in gold, bronze and maybe even teal.
The rich, glossy color and hydrating formula go a long way toward helping me overlook the $23 Becca is asking for Mimosa. If you like wearable, long-lasting bronze glosses named after rather excellent beverages, you just might agree. 🙂 Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+
Lunchtime at Sephora
I had lunch plans with a treadmill today but changed ’em at the last minute (what can I say? I’m finicky). I felt like something less…challenging, so I stopped by Sephora instead.
This tube of YSL’s classic Touche Eclat concealer was calling my name.
I briefly tried it once a long time ago and remember it not fully J-Wow’ing me then, but I’ve heard from so many women who swear by it, so I thought I would give it a second try.
Have you used it before? What did you think?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Tiffany says
That gloss looks grrrrreat! And I have wanted to try that ysl forever but can never manage to plunk down the cash for it!
Karen says
Sooo I put some on after lunch and I realized why I didn’t like it the first time around. It doesn’t cover shizz, LOL! Or maybe my dark circles are just too formidable an enemy…
Tiffany says
Doh! Is it shimmery? Can you use it over concealor? Or as a highlighter on to face?
Karen says
It’s supposed to work both as a highlighter and a concealer. I like that doesn’t look obvs on the skin and blends in nicely… it just really doesn’t cover up the darkness.
Karen says
Oh yeah, and it’s not shimmery!
Vanessa H says
ohhh, this gloss would look amazing with MAC’s Springsheen blush :-).
Karen says
Ooh, good call! 😀
ace says
that is a GREAT color and i agree- perfect for summer!
Karen says
Thanks, Ace.
Have you tried any of these glosses? They’re great!
ace says
no i havent, but i plan to once my wallet has recovered from my recent trip to sephora 😀
Karen says
LOL, I know that feeling all too well.
ace says
🙂
Crystal says
That Becca lipgloss looks really nice on you! The pretty sparkles really liven up the color. Btw, what treadmill do you use?
Karen says
Hi Crystal,
I use the NordicTrack A2550 Pro. Are you looking for a treadmill? I just got it a few months ago and I like it a lot! It folds up if you need more space and feels nice and sturdy when I’m on it.
Marina says
This gloss looks lovely on you! And I just got myself a new shade, Caipirinha 🙂
Karen says
Oh, I’m curious about that shade! What does it look like on you?
Nina says
Oh my goodness, I die for the names of those glosses… 🙂
And the color of Mimosa is lovely on you!
Karen says
I think you’d like these a lot. They feel really nice on the lips!
How was your Monday? Good, I hope!
Nina says
It was good. Rainy on the way home but the traffic was surprisingly light.
The Hubs and I ended up reading in bed instead of watching tv. We turned in early because we both had very little sleep Sunday night. Our neighbor had a guest who decided he would screech out of their driveway on his truck at 1 am. 😀
How was yours??
Karen says
It wasn’t bad. I didn’t get all the stuff I needed to get done (story of my life), but otherwise very productive. It’s been cold and overcast here lately… I thought it was supposed to be summer, boo!
Nina says
Its been raining here today too … which means the minute it stops raining its going to be super muggy. Neurotic weather we’re having, huh? 🙂
Karen says
No kidding. The sun finally showed up around these parts, but it’s cold. Well, comfy if you wear jeans and long sleeves.
Before we moved up to our new place I assumed it would be hot here all the time because it’s a little father away from the water, but I was sooo wrong, LOL!
Trisha says
That looks beautiful on you. I love the shimmer and the shine and the color. It makes me want it.
Karen says
Becca’s glosses are pretty hawt. I sense a new obsession coming on…
Abby says
I’m a die hard fan of the Touche Eclat. I find it doesn’t seem to cover them fully either though until photo’s – in which case they’re invisible (even after only a few hours sleep). But I prefer the slight darkness under eyes as I find on me at least as I’m so pale, that the slight slight darkness helps me look more awake and less alien.
Karen says
Hey Abby,
I know so many women who can’t life without the stuff!
I dunno… I guess it just wasn’t meant for me, sigh.
Abby says
I definitely hope it works for you this time – but definitely post how it worked for you again.
I read your blog daily for every new post but I’m not big on commenting, so I’m mostly just commenting this time to let you know and to know you have one more fan out there 🙂 I find your reviews satisfy the need I have to run out and buy all the products and definitely enjoy every True Blood reference!
Now I feel like a stalker typing a fan comment as long and winded as this. But I’d figure you’d rather hear it 😉
Liza says
I’ve never really understood the Touche Eclat hype. When I dragged my boyfriend to Sephora, I hid behind a mirror and put it on only one side of my face (under the eyes, on the browbone, cheekbone, etc.) and asked him which side looked more “awake.” He picked the one without Touche Eclat. Tried it again on my mom with the same result. What am I missing?
Karen says
You are preaching to the choir, girlfriend. I don’t understand it either… this is going back to Sephora very soon.
G says
I had the same issue with Touche Eclat and I have terrible dark circles. But it is good to use over a concealer, takes away the cakiness. I use it over my Dior concealer and it works pretty well
Karen says
Hi G,
Which Dior concealer are you using? I like a few of ’em, too!
BlovetBeauty says
i really like Becca products. That lipgloss rocks!
Karen says
Hey BlovetBeauty,
Can you recommend some products? Which ones are your must haves?
alicia says
I am so happy that I did not waste my money on the YSL concealer- it isn’t cheap. I thought I was missing out on something major with all the talk surrounding that product!
Karen says
I think it might be better for folks with mild dark circles who need just a touch of brightening. For heavy duty circles I’m afraid it doesn’t do squat. 🙁
What concealer are you using now? Do you like it?
alicia says
That would not be me 🙂 I’m using Trick and Treatment from Soap and Glory. It’s a similar concept, but was only 12.99. It also sucks. I was going to try Time Balm next, thanks to your raves.
Karen says
You and me both, girl!
Good to know about Trick and Treatment… I’ll skip that one.
I hope you like Time Balm. Another one you might like: Bobbi Brown’s Correcting Concealer. I’ve been using the Peach one and it’s great for cancelling out dark circles. You can wear it alone or layered beneath Time Balm.
Kate & Zena says
Wow, that is one sheer color.
No, I never tried YSL Touche Éclat. I keep fainting from the price. I just can’t imagine why I’d spend $40 on a highlighter when I can get High Beam or Moon Beam from Benefit for nearly half the price.
It’s bad enough I spent my entire paycheck on Sephora.com today (well, I work for my parents. I get $64 every two weeks for keeping the downstairs clean. Shouldn’t I get a raise since I’M also the one who mainly cooks). I nearly cried while I was typing in my credit card number. It’s worth it though. I haven’t done a Sephora or Ulta haul in a while. I’ve been busy switching my videocassette collection into a DVD collection. Videocassettes take up a ton of room! I never knew how much space that sucked up until I compared how many DVDs I could fit into a specific area to videocassettes. I stack nearly twice as many DVDs than videocassettes!
My house is currently in the midst of WWIII just so you know in case I don’t make it out alive. My parents are fighting who gets to eat the LAST PIECE of the caramel apple pie I made yesterday. Did I mention I made two pies? In less than 24 hours, my parents have eaten every last piece except that one. Do you see what I put up with? They’re fighting over pie! It’s a good thing I don’t like pie. Pass me the Push-Up pops anyday.
Karen says
It’s supposed to be both a highlighter and a concealer. It’s just eh.
Ha, that must’ve been a really good pie!
Kate & Zena says
I guess so!
Karen says
Oh, you changed your picture. 🙂 I like it!
Kate & Zena says
Yep, I figured I should show it the way I normally wear my bangs and this one is actually skin color correct (minus the uber bright cheeks. That’s just blush. I do have a teeny bit of pinkness in my cheeks naturally though). I think I qualify for the Cullen league. I even look like the living dead when I first wake up according to my mom. One of these days I’ll brave up enough to try renting True Blood. Grey’s Anatomy and House tend to be my limit for blood and guts though. I’m not hemophobic, but I get really squirrel-y seeing too much blood.
I’m incredible fickle about avatars actually. I’ll like it for awhile and then it randomly changes. I do the same thing on Facebook. I tire of one, pull up Zena, switch back to me, Zena. One of these days I won’t want a photo of Zena OR me and I’ll have to figure out what to do!
Karen says
I like this one, but I also like your Zena ones, too. She’s such a photogenic pup!
Julia says
I must just love all things mimosa! I’m a total addict, and now I might need to get this new shade!
Karen says
I hope you do! It’s a beautiful shade.
Li Ming says
I bought YSL Touche Eclait a few years ago in Singapore airport when it was fairly new to the market. I concur that it does diddly squat for covering dark circles. The formula was thin and consistent though. But I am also not a fan of the product delivery system although the sleek pen style makes it quite compact…but I feel like I am paying for the packaging instead of the product…and a product that I do not love either. But (again) that packaging does mean product won’t dry out, and with minimal contamination (depending on how you use the “brush”). Back then, there were only 3 shades available. Not sure if it is still the case.
Karen says
Hi Li Ming,
There are four shades now. The fourth is a deep toffee. I liked how pigmented it was, but unfortch the shade was a touch too dark for me.
Advah says
I bought the Touche Eclat after hearing so many great things about it, but I’m not super impressed. I guess it makes a wee bit of a difference in making me look more awake on festival-hungover-camping days, but to be honest it might just be all in my mind. It was a bit pricey, so I like to think it works more than it actually does… I get way better results with my Nars Copacabana multiple.
And I hear you about the booze. After a couple of memorable (in a bad way) nights, I go craaaazy after half a pint, and if I have more than that it takes me two days to recover. :/ My friends make fun of me for being a lightweight, but hey I’m 95 pounds, things hit me a bit harder than if I were 6foot tall and beefy!
Karen says
Hi Advah,
Interesting. So do you wear Copacabana underneath your eyes?
Advah says
Ah sorry I meant as a highlighter. I’ve always been told the Touche Eclat is to be used as a highlighter and not concealer, since it apparently draws attention to dark circles.
This being said, when I use it I put it all around my eyes since I can’t see any different anyway…
Karen says
Ahh, okay! Copacabana is a great color, btw. <3 the NARS Multiples.
Kim says
I’m a sucker for shimmery glosses and this color looks great on you – though I think I still like Cherry Bomb best. 🙂
I’m finally making the trek to Sephora today (which, believe it or not, will be work-related). I’m kind of dreading the return home and the question “anything to declare?”. 🙂
Karen says
Heh! Just say it’s for the sake of research!
Frances says
I tried touche eclat because of all the rave reviews, but it didn’t really work well for me.
Right now I am using the MUFE HD concealer on my undereye circles and love it. The MUFE concealer really blends well into my skin and covers up the dark circles. It is not cakey or heavy either and does not settle into fine lines. Try it- you’ll love it!
Karen says
I do like their Lift concealer … maybe this will work just as well! Thanks for the rec. I’ll try to snag a sample at Sephora.
Tzu says
I personally do not like the touche eclat. I think the colors are limiting…(if you have darker skin I don’t think its a good match). Also, the coverage is not that great. I prefer the time balm or the bobbi brown undereye correctors!
Karen says
Ugh, I tried a little bit yesterday and it didn’t cover squat.
Have you tried a little bit of Bobbi’s corrector beneath Time Balm? I use peach for extra bad dark circle days.
Aparnaa says
No, don’t get it. As a girl with darker skin – let’s say Snooki, if she weren’t orange – I was heartened to hear Mindy Kaling say she used and loved it. I tried it. It left orange streaks on my skin – let’s say Snooki, actually. Good bye, $40.
Karen says
Speaking of Snooki, the new season of Jersey Shore is supposed to air soon. I dunno if I’m going to be able to handle it…
