Fred Farrugia Makeup Is Driving Me Matte!

October 6th, 2010 by Karen 55 Comments

Wearing Fred Farrugia Semi Matte Lipstick/Matte Lip Powder Duo in 06 in lips and Pearlized Creme Eyeshadow/Twinkle Cream Eyeshadow Duo in 02 on eyes

Heya, princess of power. Who needs a He-Man when we’ve got Fred Farrugia? Here’s a closer look at a few of his products, including the modular makeup we talked about the other day.

Shout it with me now, “I HAVE THE POWER!!!”

SEMI MATTE LIPSTICK/MATTE LIP POWDER DUOS

The Semi Matte Lipstick/Matte Lip Powder Duos in 04 (a matte red) and 06 (a matte hot pink) are really rocking my world. This probably won’t come as a surprise, but each one comes with a creamy semi-matte lipstick and a pigmented lip powder. 🙂 Fred designed them to be used together. Using either fingers or a lip brush, apply a layer of the cream lipstick first, patting the matching lip powder directly on top. The result? A vibrant, highly pigmented, long-wearing matte lip look.

I can’t believe how easy these are to apply (I used my fingers in these pics). They’re non-drying and hang around all day long, even withstanding She-Ra sized meals! I just wish they weren’t so blasted tough to remove (not a big problem, though)… Good ol’ Kirkland wipes can’t take ’em down, but Clinique Take the Day Off Balm can.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A+

POWDER BLUSH IN 07

Another standout: Powder Blush in 07. It’s like a darker, more intense NARS Orgasm (a shimmery golden peach). The pigment in this peach does NOT mess around. The color leaps onto brushes that get anywhere near it, and even a small amount delivers a pretty flush. Skin also agrees with it, lapping it up like a sponge. But a word of caution: it’s so intense, SO VIVID, that it can be a little tough to control. My mantra’s been dilute, dilute, dilute!
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+/A-

PEARLIZED CREAM EYESHADOW/TWINKLE CREAM EYESHADOW DUO IN 02

If you like the way you look wearing glossy eye creams, you might really dig the Pearlized Creme Eyeshadow/Twinkle Cream Eyeshadow Duo in 02. It comes with a shimmery purple and a glittery gray, both of which deposit lots of pigment and shine. I must say, I love how easy they are to blend and apply, but neither one lasts very long on my skin. And they move around A LOT, making their way into creases almost as soon as they’re applied. I see them probably working better as bases for powder shadows than as standalone eyeshadows. I guess they just like having company. 🙂
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B-

What’s the verdict? See anything you like?

Nutella to the rescue!

These little Nutella travel packs just might be the greatest invention since the Internet!

My buddy Marisol gave them to me, so I’m saving them for a rainy day. I tote them around in my purse for…emergencies, you know, just in case. It’s a lot easier than carrying around a jar and spoon (which I’ve done).

I hope you had a wonderful Wednesday today. What did you wear on your lips?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

That makeup line seems so interesting, from the type of product (lip powder?) to the packaging. Neat!

Today I wore Frankly Fresh from the Liberty of London release. The perfect nude for me, yay!

Ooooh, are those ever lovely! The shadows don’t sound too thrilling, but the lipsticks look as awesome as single-serving Nutella packages (which I totally tote around with me too, LOL! Nothin’ like a spoonful of Nutella.)

Yea, if you like the powder lip idea it’s the same, but the finish is not nearly as nice as these matte ones. It’s more high-shimmer.

I like it. I think part of it might be because I grew up in the 90s, which was a time when matte lips ruled. My friends and I would always pat translucent powder on top of our lipstick to create a matte texture.

I could never wear the 06, but it looks seriously great on you. You look like you’re ready for a vacation on a tropical island (your shirt adds to the mood!). It’s a really fun, happy color. 🙂

The Nutella packs are very cute. You never know when an emergency will arise. I’m a bit ashamed to admit that I usually carry a corkscrew, just in case!

My lips have been rocking the Raspberry Superbalm. I can’t seem to get enough moisture, or sleep, lately.

Oh my! Those lips! Ravishing darling. I must get my hands on that red, it practically burns the retinas!

Today I traded in my usual Ruby Woo for nude lipstick; I was going for a sort of grungy, heroin-chick look with plum rimmed eyes and no foundation or blush. Nude lipstick neveer seems to look right on my pigmented lips, but Too Faced ‘Totally Nude’ has enough colour in it to not look washed out. Love it!

You know, now that I think about it, I have had a number of Nutella emergencies that I didn’t recognize as such. If only I’d had a spare Nutella packet, all would have been right with the world. I love these. I pick them up at World Market. They have a great rewards program with many coupons.

Today I wore Prestige Skin Loving Minerals Lipgloss in Delicate Mauve. Love this stuff — slightly thicker so it feels really plush on your lips and sticks around well.

I love the hot pink matte lips and the colour reminds me of NARS Schiap, except that Schiap is quite drying. Speaking of Nutella, Though the red is lovely, I like the pink better. I have the strange desire to whip up a batch of crepes with a thick spread of nutella on top.

Wait wasn’t this the guy who did those AMAZING color stories for Lancome back in the late 90’s? Like the spring/summer one with the iridecents layered over black and dark blue lipstick? And I remember a holiday one with shades of pure matte red (on the eyes too!) with these black lace appliques for your eyebrows. This was all during my formative makeup years and holy cow the best stuff I could have laid eyes on. It’s hard to imagine Lancome putting out the most imaginative makeup stories but it was true. I can’t wait to see this come to the states.

You are rocking that matte hot pink, can’t wait to see this line come to the states!
