Clé de Peau Beauté Perfect Lash Mascara: So Close to Perfect That It Almost Makes Up for the Price

November 28th, 2014 by Karen 22 Comments

Clé de Peau Beauté Perfect Lash Mascara, $50
Clé de Peau Beauté Perfect Lash Mascara in Black ($50)

Clé de Peau Beauté Perfect Lash Mascara may be the most expensive mascara I’ve ever touched.

It’s $50! — a price that makes Guerlain Cils D’Enfer, Chanel Le Volume and YSL Faux Cils look like castoffs in a discount bin.

Holy crap, this tube is $50!

Logically, I know that it’s completely insane to even consider a mascara that costs as much as two bags of groceries at Trader Joe’s (that’s a lot of Pretzel Slims), but oh, my gosh, it’s the mutha-truckin’ ish.

I don’t have a lot to work with in the lash department naturally, but when I wear Perfect Lash, I look like I got lash extensions in Beverly Hills. My short, wispy lashes look impeccably long, lifted and defined, and I feel like a 1940s screen siren when she bats her eyes.

One layer works well, but I prefer two.

Perfect Lash also has a waterproof formula and doesn’t smudge or flake.

Thankfully for pocketbooks everywhere, it does have flaws…like it’s extremely difficult to remove. So difficult that I feel like I’m giving myself a deep-tissue massage when I go to take it off. It takes two rounds of DHC Cleansing Oil, and then one pump of Neutrogena Gentle Cleanser.

If it were $25 cheaper, I’d use this and never look back…

Perfect Lash comes in two shades, Black and Brown, and you can find it now at Clé de Peau Beauté counters, Neiman Marcus stores and online.

PRICE: $50 (holy!)
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Clé de Peau Beauté counters, Neiman Marcus stores and online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+/A- (just can’t ignore the price)

Karen

50 BUCKS? 50 BUCKS??? Wow, and I think I spend too much on mascaras!

With that said, it does look amazing on you. I don’t wear waterproof mascaras that much anymore though, as I have found plenty of non-waterproof ones that holds the curl without smudging. I think I’m good for now 😉

If I actually had the courage to buy this I would probably just apply it Monday morning and remove it Friday night. That way I don’t have to deal with th struggle of removing it too often and I can extend the life of the tube for as long as possible! Ha! Love a good waterproof mascara but oh man, is it worth all the trouble of removing it? $50…no way, man. My $30 Dior is enough crazy for me!

You know, I kinda felt guilty over my $23 tube of Benefit’s They’re Real. Thank you very much for making me feel better about my mascara-spending habits. Sure, that wasn’t your intention. In fact, convincing me that I don’t need this is the opposite of what you intended to do. And this is a first for me- visiting my fave beauty blog to learn how to SAVE money ☺️ That said, the effect on your lashes is seriously DOPE! Beautiful, actually.

    Yes, your lashes look amazing!
But I think it’s the wand.
Cover Girl Professional Mascara with the curved wand (less than $5.00) gives me great curl & length. I’ve got long straight lashes but they do get longer.
For that price, removing the liquid lash (cement) should not be hard.

OMG YOURE LASHES!!! Amazing amazing amazing! Did you curl them btw before applying mascara? I don’t know if I could justify it for myself… But I think I’ll remind Santa he didn’t get me a pony when I was 3… But this would make up for it 🙂

That is a hefty price tag. I tend to go for high end mascaras, because my lashes are straight and stubborn and I like the way they work, but that is too much.

Even though your lashes look amazing!

Wow it definitely offers a lot of length! You’re right. It almost makes up for the price tag. Almost lol

How volumizing would you say this is? I can’t afford $50 right now but the length it gives you is so amazing. My lashes are long and blonde, so I wonder if it would be as dramatically lengthening on me.

My success in the mascara department has been rather grim as late. Well, when it comes to selecting them.

    Mascara – 3
    Nicole – 0

The shape of my eyes and the proximity of my lashes and the direction they fall in often leads to raccoonosis, it’s a horrible affliction. Dark shadows and stains undoing the concealing in the undereye area. I just can’t take it anymore! Plus, I’ve also managed to choose a couple of flaky formulas. Wahhh!

    Help!

OMGosh!! I am so glad I am not the only one who loves this mascara. I love it and dislike it for the exact same reasons you do. I love that it gives me great lashes. Volume, length, curl, no smudging, no flaking. I hate that it’s a bear to take off. I’ve been trying to find a similar mascara at a lower price point. I have found plenty that give me beautiful lashes, but I always, always, always end up with flaking or smudging or major raccoon eyes. I like Nicole’s term for it, “raccoonosis”!
If you ever find anything that wears like the Cle de Peau, without flaking or smudging, at less than $50, you must immediately tell us!

Whoa! It’s even more expensive than Tom Ford! I’d rather use a drugstore brand like Maybelline which gives the same result LOL

Thank you so much for listing the negatives. You know that high end, high performance mascara is my kryptonite! I think the wand shape is actually the killer for me (thank goodness).

If this helps take the sting out of the price any…twice a year Nordstrom has “Mascara Madness” (usually in early November and sometime in May) when you buy 2 mascaras, the 3rd one is free. So that works out to about $35 per mascara (incl tax). I stock up on my Trish McEvoy lash curling mascara then, but I think I’ll try the Cle de Peau next time!

Actually, it’s not that expensive when you consider the expiry 24 mos versus ysl is 6 mos after opening.

Omg so worth the $50 bucks! I’ve been using it for over a year now & it’s just what I needed for my Asian lashes- I’m half Asian so this was the cure for the stuby, straight-as-can-be lashes. Pair it with Lancôme’ Bi-facial eye makeup remover & it comes off in a couple sweeps with a soft cotton round. Perfection!
