Physicians Formula Spotlight Illuminating Primer ($14.95 and available at Rite Aid, CVS, Target and Ulta) is A-OK if you’re going for an extra dewy look…
1. Because I think it looks beautiful blended into foundation.
That’s when I really like this glittery champagne-colored liquid primer. Mixing it with foundation tones down the sparkle. A lot. Making it a little more wearable, and when I’m going for extra dewy, illuminated skin, like on rainy days when the muted light outside is more forgiving than it is on sunny days, it’s fun.
2. It is NOT a dupe for BECCA Backlight (sadly).
I hoped it would be. A drugstore version of $38 BECCA Backlight would have rocked, but Spotlight’s shimmer is bolder. Light softly beams off of my skin when I wear Backlight, but Spotlight has noticeably bigger glitter flecks and a harder, frostier pore-highlighting reflection, ESPECIALLY in full sunlight.
I mean, I looove me some glitter, but not when it’s from big-honkin’ pieces of glitter all up in my pores. I’m like, Whoa, Nelly! This ain’t A Night at The Roxbury. It’s just a Tuesday, and I’m only going to Target to buy bread. Chill.
That said, if you’re carefree and pore-less like porcelain, and if big sparkles put a spring in your step, you should be able to wear this without a hitch. No prob.
2. It’s pricey for drugstore.
A 1-oz. bottle with a pump is $14.95 (vs. BECCA Backlight, which is $38). If you’re interested, it’s available now at Rite Aid, CVS, Target and Ulta.

P.S. Happy Tuesday. 🙂

Thank you for this! I really like Backlight and was hoping this would be a good swap. Physicians Formula makes everything too dark for me, anyway. It’s funny, because they make lighter bronzers that work for my fair skin, but things like this or foundations/BB creams they always make too dark for me.

Hi ChynnaBlue,
You’re welcome. Ya know, I noticed about that too, especially their foundations. They tend to oxidize at least two or three steps on my skin!

Oh, this all sounds horrific for my old, pore-tastic skin! 🙂 But, as you say, I’m sure the young, poreless crowd could rock it!

Your skin isn’t old, it’s experienced and wise. 😀

HAHA! I like that!

Hi Karen,
(And all the other ladies reading this Sweet blog…)
So the biggest reason that I bought this is because CVS had a coupon for $10 extra bucks on a purchase of $14. So knowing that their foundation is too deep for my light-medium skin tone, I picked this up. Now, I’m old. My skin isn’t “experienced and wise” haha.
So of course I came home and cleaned the make up from my face and gave it a whirl. And…(drum roll please) I am pleased to say that I love it!
It feels great on my dry skin. I love my Hourglass, don’t get me wrong. But it actually looks good on me. It has a silvery cool undertone which looks great on my freckled skin.
So my first impression is a great big yes. I love the shimmer. The glow. The smoothing effect. I almost don’t need any blush over it.
I would definitely recommend this to the younger ladies, as.well as my cool toned sisters. Two big thumbs up for this.
My only complaint as of yet is that I’m not crazy about the packaging. I have the Nude Wear foundation, and I need to be very careful of the pump, as it will unscrew and make a high holy mess if it’s not standing upright. Thank you and have a glowy day!
