It’s That Sweet Time of the Year, Essie: Essie Winter 2009

October 21st, 2009 by Karen 64 Comments

essie-winter-2009

“This season, I wanted to create a new set of classic, yet fun colors that are wearable on every skin tone.” – Essie Weingarten, Founder and President

YOU GO, E-Money, with your “I’m every woman” approach to nail color.

The shades in Essie’s Sweet Time of the Year Collection for Winter 2009 ($8 each) should flatter a rainbow of skin tones and appeal to a range of colorful personalities.

Which ones suit you?

  • Classic dames: If pearls, little black dresses and patent leather pumps speak to your soul, then try two rich coats of Lollipop, a creamy, candy-apple red.
  • Trendy types: Do you like life on the edge? Take a bite out of creamy Mint Candy Apple. Go for three layers with a base coat to avoid streaks.
  • Subtly sassy: A whisper of sheer, creamy pink’s just *so* quintessentially Essie. Wear Rock Candy when you’re in the mood for a dash of color. Try two coats for blinding shine with a hint of pink.

Do you like your colors buffet-style instead (YES!)? If so, consider the Sweet Time of the Year Winter Collection Mini Set ($17).

essie-winter-collection-mini-set-final

Each one combines three sample-size Winter 2009 shades with a mini-bottle of Essie Three Way Glaze, an all-in-one base, strengthener and top coat.

Is mint green the new black?

I wouldn’t be surprised to see more pastel green polishes pop up over the next few months. Remember Chanel Jade? My spider sense detects a new colour du jour…

What say you? Do you likey what Essie’s been up to?

New Yoooork

Somebody, stop me before I play Jay-Z’s Empire of the State again. I’m hooked.

It’s his latest ode to New York.

I’ve had it on repeat for … a while. Maybe it’s the West Coast girl in me, but I feel a little guilty for loving it so much. 🙂

What have you been listening to lately?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I think Mint Candy Green is calling my name! Essie 3 Way Glaze is an excellent base and top coat along with being a pretty good nail conditioner.

I really like the Lollipop! The Rock Candy isn’t rockin’ my boat. Although I like the Mint Candy Apple, I think I like the Chanel Jade better. Just went to Ulta today and got 3 OPI colors (OPI Red, Siberian Nights, and Black Onyx), so I don’t think I can get anymore nail polishes anytime soon!

I’ve already seen the collection and I absolutely adore the Mint Candy Apple and Rock Candy. I have to say that I’ve never wear green nail polish ( doesn’t matter what shade ) but this autumn I already like 5 nail polishes all in different kind of greens. It’s definitely the time that Green should come out and play and I’m talking about all those beautiful greens out there like Forest Green from Orly, Jade from Chanel and many others 🙂

Thanks for the swatches! I need a sheer light pink/white suitable for French manis (or just as a sheer wash of color) – is Rock Candy a good one? I’m looking for one that’s not streaky and good within 2 coats, and I’m curious to try an Essie, which is supposed to be famous for sheers…

      Hi Pinksoysauce,

Rock Candy might be right up your ally. I did two coats and it wasn’t streaky at all. I did use a base coat though — that makes a huge diff in reducing streaks!

Is it just me or is anybody sick of all the minty greens that have been coming out this year? Greenport, Peppermint Patty, Matte Gargantuan Green Grape, Mint Mojito, Jade, Mint Candy Apple….I’m so tired of minty, pastely greens. My Greenport is in retirement for awhile as I can’t stand looking at it anymore.

However, I am almost done with my rough draft essay for tomorrow. One down…two and a half to go (the half represents the final draft of the rough draft). Anybody want to type one for me?

Karen, I think I am going to try Siberian Nights first. When I got a pedi this summer, the nail place had OPI Red and I fell in love with it -it’s the perfect red for me! The Black Onyx was bought primarily for my daughter for Halloween, but I will definitely be using it too!

The other colours are pretty been there, done that…but Mint Candy Apple is gorgeous! I actually like it better than Chanel’s Jade! Hope you and Tabs (and El Hub, don’t want to make anyone feel left out) are OK! 😀

Hi Karen! School’s good, now that we’re finishing the year we’re doing the interesting things! On monday we’re going to do a live TV journal, I’m in charge of producing the entertainment spot, and we’ve got to do a couple more things too. Radio is killing us with all the interviews we have to do, but it’s great fun! Oh and my makeup course is great too, I’ve learnt quite a lot 😀 How’s life at your new home? I’ve got and prefer Chanel Jade, I think it’s a much more wearable green than the Essie, I don’t really wear reds and need another sheer pink like a hole in the head. I’ll be passing on this release, If I didn’t get Jade I may have thought differently but seeing them side by side has helped me realise I don’t need mint candy apple even though I like the colour.
