Draw the Focus Upward, and Create a Lifted Effect by Using the Makeup on Your Lids as a Guide

December 22nd, 2016 by Karen 10 Comments

draw attention to your eyes

I think it’s a combination of getting older and not getting as much sleep as I need/like, but my lids seem to be getting more and more hooded every day. And one of the things I notice now is that whenever I do anything that sort of lifts my eyes, it gives a whole lift to my look.

Some people call this next tip a makeup rule, but if you want to give your eyes an instant, easy lift, wear more makeup on your upper lids and lash lines than you wear on your lower lash lines. It’ll draw the focus upward, instead of downward, and give a lift to your eye.

Also, if you do your eye makeup on your lids and lash lines first, you can use them as a guide to help you decide how much makeup to apply on your lower lash lines.

To be honest, I break this rule all the time. Sometimes I’ll do a bright or glittery lower lash line with a barely there color on my lids, or I’ll wear the same amount of color on my upper and lower lash lines. It just depends on the day. It’s all good. 🙂

With tricks like this, though, I think you have to give them a try, because you never know how they’ll work for you until you do.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Wow, Karen, you look radiant! 🙂
I actually feel like my makeup is not complete without something on my lower lash line. For some reason, I can skip lining my upper lash line, but I have to have at least a little something on the lower one. Like, sometimes I’ll just do a simple wash of color on the lid and then use a brown pencil to trace a super thin line along the outer half of the lower lashes. Then I’ll take a pencil brush or a q-tip to soften it, so that it doesn’t really look like a definite line, but still gives me the definition I feel like I need.

I’m the same way. I like having at least a little something down there to keep it balanced!

I never put anything on my lower lash line until recently. Somehow I felt like it made me look more tired. But last fall I started putting some eyeshadow on my lower lashline as well for a sultry look. It depends on my mood, I guess.

I’m glad you gave it a try! Isn’t it neat how our tastes in makeup evolve? I love how our makeup changes as we change.

I find that adding a little more to the outer section of the upper lashline also helps lift them up.

I forget what it’s called but this is a art technique. When you draw and you make a line thick it makes it stand out more then the skinny lines.

I agree with you that giving your eyes a lift gives your whole face a lift. I’ve noticed that, when I really define the upper edge of the arch of my brows, it seems to pull my eyes upward. And I usually line under my eyes with eyeshadows from my lids or crease, smudging it out to a soft line. I’ll apply a lighter shade from the outer corner to where my lashes stop, then layer a mid-tone color over just the outer third of my lower lash line.

I’ve been noticing lately that my hoods are most pronounced in the morning on a day when I’m bloated. As the day goes on, the fluid migrates toward my feet (where the wool-blend compression knee highs that I wear under my jeans keep my feet and ankles from blowing up like balloons, lol), but at night it spreads out, and my face, including my eyelids, can be quite puffy in the morning. The joys of being sixty, lol! Good things to look forward to 😉
