Hmm… Looks like a few palettes are missing from the new MAC Girls collection. (Coming soon! August 3rd!)
I see a Rockin’ Rebel, a Fashion Fanatic and a Mischief Minx…but where’s Feline Friend? Or Pooped Parent? Or Nutella Nut? Methinks MAC missed an opportunity. Those would have spoken to many real life MAC Girls.
Which MAC girl are you?
MAC’s limited edition MAC Girls collection contains six $39.50 palettes, each with eight eyeshadows and a big pan of highlighter. Every palette has a different personality. There’s Rockin’ Rebel, which is the one I’m wearing today, with blues, greens and golds. Mischief Minx, a.k.a. “the warm palette,” keeps cozy with toasty tones of orange, gold and brown. Fashion Fanatic flirts with bright berries, purples and pinks. Basic Bitch — the smokey palette — is a bad-@ss bevy of cool grays, purples and silvers. In Prissy Princess, pinks, grays, browns and taupes reign supreme. And Power Hungry is the only palette in the release that doesn’t have an alliterative name…and it’s bugging me because I can’t think of a catchy pun that starts with “P.” It’s the palette with neutral beiges, browns and bronze.
A couple things are jumping out at me. Like, I can’t remember the last time MAC released a collection that was exclusively comprised of palettes. Can you? Because their palettes are usually just one component of a larger launch, like they usually do for holiday. So that’s cool (and weird!).
Shadow formulas I’ve never seen before
In Rockin’ Rebel, there’s a Foil, something called a Satin Shine, a Creamy Matte and another formula called Opalescent. Wha?!
So, yeah, lots of newness happening here, and I’m kinda shook!
Pleasantly pleased
Run a finger across a pan and, ooh! — the shadows are so much softer than usual for a MAC LE palette. If you’re a true MAC girl, you know that the LE palettes that are only on shelves for a hot second don’t usually feel or perform as well as the O.G. palettes in the permanent line, but the shadows in Rockin’ Rebel, for one, feel just as silky as usual.
When I did my eyes today with Rockin’ Rebel, I kept expecting to have to resort to tomfoolery or shenanigans to get the shadows to show up and blend together, but nuh-uh. Nothing tripped me up. The only thing I noticed was a bit of fallout from the Foils, which have large grains of glitter, but I expected that, so no big deal.
Four hours into this blue/green/gray look, with the eyeshadows layered on top of my trusty NARS Pro-Prime, the shadows showed no signs of disappearing into a crease or moving into that mysterious dimension where shadows disappear…save for a few flecks of glitter that found their way into my brows.
I can’t wait to dig into the other palettes, but so far, Rockin’ Rebel, at least, is a “go.” 🙂
Where you can meet the Girls
All six of the MAC Girls will be chillin’ for a limited time at select MAC counters and the MAC website starting August 3rd. Get ready to rock!

I’m excited for these! But I’d like to see you try them first. But right now, I’m lusting for Power Hungry and Mischief Minx. You look pretty as usual, Karen.

I would have bought Pooped Parent in an instant! But even if the other palettes don´t appeal to me in name as much, they at least seem to be worthy to check out regarding quality.

The packaging is really cool. It would be fun if MAC did more of this kind of packaging.

I don’t know. Maybe Power Player for the alliteration? Or maybe I watch too much hockey. 🙂 I like your glam trucker look with the Rebel palette and the cap. Very cute!
Karen says
See, how easy was that?! Power Player would’ve been perfect!

This is a great review/intro Karen. Are you going to do looks, reviews for the other palettes? This isnt really my color scheme but I like the idea. Also how does the big highligter pan serve as a highlight?
Ash says
Omg. These are all so stunning. I want them ALL. I LOVE the look you did! It’s gorgeous!

I love the arm swatches. I’m supposed to be getting ready to spend the day in The City with Dear Husband (it’s our anniversary), so I’ll have to come back and concentrate on the words later. But I’m intrigued, especially by the new shadow formulas.

Can I be more than one girl? The Prissy Princess one looks so me with these dusty rose tones but I really want the Rebel one!! Can’t wait to check these out ?!
Polarbelle says
I’d love anything you wore, but I am so seriously loving this palette!! I really enjoy good blue tones. I’m super sad I can’t get the hat to go with tho…..like REALLY sad. They should offer hat/palette combos. I’d be all over it.

OMG I’m obsessed already. I’m a combo of Rockin Rebel and Fashion Fanatic. Both of those just speak to me. Ugh … like I need more eyeshadow in my life. These tell me I do. ?
Karen says
Hi Miki,
LOL, I’m totally the same way. “I don’t need more (FILL IN THE BLANK).” But then all the pretty fall stuff comes in!
