MAC Me Over Because There’s Something Here for Everyone

mac me over

For my losing entry in the contest that eventually led to the upcoming MAC Me Over collection, I leaped into the sea from atop a giant rock in Oahu’s Waimea Bay while screaming, “MAC me over because I’m ready for a new adventure!” into a small waterproof video camera.

Actually…I was standing on an outcropping only about a foot off the water when I jumped. Oh, and I also flubbed my line. :)

I like to think of MAC’s fall release as the People’s Collection (raises fist!), but not because it was part of any underground revolutions. The collection’s imagery showcases dreamy before and after pics from the six men and women picked after last fall’s contest for the collection. In the contest, MAC fans submitted pictures and videos of themselves completing the phrase, “MAC me over because…”

From the submissions, MAC Creative Director James Gager picked the lucky winners. Pretty cool, yah?

The 51-piece collection is, in a word, MASSIVE! It launches August 25 here in North America and internationally this September with a bevy of brushes and limited edition and repromoted makeup for eyes, lips, face, cheeks and nails.

MAC divided the release into three sub-collections — Icelandic Cool (comprised of cool-toned shades), New Black (dark and bold colors) and MAC Basics (pink and nude shades hand-picked by MAC artists) — making it all fairly easy to navigate.

I swatched a few of what I thought were eye-catching items from each of the three sub-collections this morning. Holla at me if anything that gets you in the gut. :)

A flash from green to gray caught my eye right away. It was from the Hazy Day Eyeshadow. I also immediately noticed Take Root Cream Color Base, a reddish bronze with a hint of green. I still don’t have any idea what I’d do with it, but I bet it would look really pretty in a bronzy green smokey eye.

Thumbs up for cheesy vegetable pasta!

For the love of cats, that cheesy vegetable pasta recipe from Women’s Health turned out even better than I’d hoped! From start to finish, it took less than half an hour to make, and even El Hub thought it was delish (I did add a little bit of chicken to his…).

Other alterations I made to the recipe: I added two cloves of minced garlic after sauteing them in olive oil, sprinkled fresh chopped basil on top, and layered everything (pasta, ricotta cheese, veggies and then the basil), to turn it into an improv lasagna. :)

It’s a pretty flexible recipe, which is another one of the things I like about it. If you’re not into dairy, just omit the ricotta. If you have a big meat eater in the family, add some grilled chicken breast.

NOM!

Your hungry neighborhood pasta addict,

Karen

There are so many stuff I’d love to have from this collection… I love the Lady Grey quad… also Mythical eyeshadow, Dark Diversion eyeliner, Take Root cream colour base and Heirloom ans Street Cool shadesticks… oh, and Social Light lipgloss :)….

  5. Kelsey V. says:

Somehow Moleskin and Outre eyeshadows remind me of Naked and Buck from the Urban Decay Naked Palette. However Moleskin is just a little bit too cool-toned to be an exact dupe for Naked.

I think I need that Social Light Lipglass, just because its pretty and hypnotizing me to spend more of my money on more lipgloss that I most certainly don’t need!

I kind of want Dark Diversion. I missed out on it last time. Buyer’s remorse? Most likely.

That pasta dish looks awesome! I’m a vegetarian, but I could easily omit the chicken and possibly add in some tuna. Of course, Rocky and Jazz would start a riot over who gets to lick the can.

    • Karen says:

      Hi Chris,

You will love, LOVE Dark Diversion (I’ve been wearing it regularly since Stylishly Yours). It should look great on your skin.

Re: the dish — I didn’t eat it with meat (not a big meat eater), and it was still very filling. :)

Give the kitties a chin scratch for me!

  14. Jenn says:

I am all over those fluidlines :)

  15. Nina says:

Hazy Day is lovely … im torn about that color since its in a quad and im thinking the other shades are a bit too cool for me!

i definitely want outre and mythical. im always up for yellow eyeshadow!

    • Karen says:

      Hi Nina,

Outre is so pretty! I bet it would be nice with something like Soft Ochre Paint Pot and Ricepaper. :)

Been a while since I’ve asked about the fur family. I hope the kitties and the pup are doing well!

      • Nina says:

omg — youre right. soft ochre + outre + ricepaper = awesome. and i like how it can work for fall/winter as well as spring/summer — depending on what you pair with it.

outre is the first thing that popped from this collection for me. i saw it and i drooled — its a really unique color!

furkiddos are doing great — LOL had a bit of a cold but is all better. thankfully Anja and Linus didnt pick me up.

the cutest thing has been going on lately though — Mojo (our 4 year old puppy) and LOL have been sleeping beside each other in a huge pet bed. its so adorable!

        • Karen says:

Yes! I think that combo with some false lashes (or a great lengthening mascara) would be pretty hot!

Glad to hear LOL is feeling better and that the other kitties didn’t catch his cold. And awww… I love that he snuggles with Mojo! Are they BFF now?

  16. shiny says:

mmmmm, ricotta…… An inspired idea, Karen!

Oh, and the basil – basil makes everything just better, no?

I want outre and hazy day!

    • Karen says:

      Hi Shiny,

Yes, basil takes it to the next level! I just got a basil plant a couple of weeks ago and I love being able to just snip a few leaves for my meal.

How do you feel about avocado? If you do, I have an avocado-basil pesto recipe that you might like. Just let me know. :)

    Hi Karen,

Could you please share the recipe for the cheesy veggie pasta with us? Looks and sound delish!

  22. Christina says:

I agree…can you give a link to the recipe, perhaps?

I think I will try the Avenue liner…it will be my very first fluid liner from MAC. Excited! I already have a basic black liner (from CARGO) and a brown liner (from HIP Loreal)…I am hoping I will like Avenue and that it is sort of a combo of black and brown, with a little gold thrown in…

  23. Mia says:

Thanks for the swatches (and the lovely pasta pic, yummy).
How special do you think Creamy Bisque is compared to other highlighters, like Blanc Type and others? It is a yes, get it or more a only get it if you need a highlighter?

    TIA :)

    • Karen says:

      Hi Mia,

I wore it yesterday, and while I loved the texture (it’s super soft and almost feels like a cream), I think that if you have a similar sort of beigey frost highlighter you may not need it. On my skin I can see a hint of pink, which is kinda different, but I don’t know if it’s so unique that I’d buy five pans of it and stockpile the color, you know?

Let me know if you have any other questions!

  24. Vesna says:

I like Tendersmoke and Hazy Dayfrom that quad, too bad those don’t come separately. I have to say I’m not really liking this collection, it looks a bit boring for my taste but I do get that there can’t always be colorful collections :)

  27. Julia says:

Oh man, I think MAC read my mind! I’ve been LOVING me some Blacktrack lately, but jonesing for a kick-it-up-a-notch color to wear out, while not straying from the Fluidline formula… FOTD recommendation! :-p Have a great day, Karen!

    • Karen says:

      Hi Julia,

You’ll definitely want Avenue, then. I wore it yesterday and it’s really nice for when you want to switch things up from regular ol’ Blacktrack.

What brush are you using to apply your Fluidlines?

  28. Maddy says:

Avenue shall be mine!! It’s gorgeous.

Take Root looks just like a cream version of Blue Brown. Yumm.

    • Karen says:

Ooh, yeah! It kinda does. I’m gonna try popping it on my lid and layering it with some stuff… I hope good things happen, LOL!

BTW, I wore Avenue yesterday and I <3 it!

  29. Sarah H. says:

Goodness, I have such a weakness for greys and mauves. That palette is calling to me.

  30. Lady Grey e/s quad looks amazing, perfect travel palette. Might have to pick that up. :O

Hi again Karen! The collection will be released in the Netherlands on 3 September, and I can’t wait. I think I may have to be waiting outside the shop before it opens to make sure I get my sticky mitts on all the shadowsticks and other stuff. Thanks again for the great blog.

  32. Natasia says:

Your entry sounds awesome! I think I need that fluid liner and the shadesticks. They look amazing. Drool.
