Look Book: Rose Gold Glistening Glow With a Pop of Purple and MAC Snowball

The MAC Snow Ball Pigments and Glitter kit in Gold on my lids

Back with the second post in a new series called Look Book! — which is a little different from the Face of the Day series. I like to think of the Look Book as an experimental space for makeup looks, for sure, but also a place to talk about technique, products and basically anything that strikes my (or your) fancy. If we discover some new ways to approach our makeup, find new things to try and figure out new ways to feel inspired along the way, mission accomplished.
🙂

The original theme for this look was “rose gold glistening glow,” but I think I ended up with more “rose gold sweaty glow,” since it turned out shinier than I anticipated… LOL! Oh, well. That’s OK, though, these things happen when you’re experimenting with makeup. The big upside of this is that I found a new way to wear lipstick! (More on this in a second.)

When you look kinda sweaty but you’re still into it…

Wearing a few kits from the MAC Snowball holiday collection

All of the makeup I’m wearing in this is listed down below. I used a bunch of the LE holiday kits from the MAC Snow Ball collection that are on counters now, including the Snow Ball Pigment and Glitter Kit in Gold ($29.50), two of the Lip Bag kits ($39.50 each) — initially, I put on the Lip Bag Kit in Nude, but then for fun I swapped the nude lips for matte red lips using the Lip Bag Kit in Nude Red.

I also used the Snow Ball Mascara kit ($29.50), and the Basic ($49.50), Advanced ($49.50) and Mini ($29.50) brush kits from Snow Ball.

But the star of the show for me, by far, is Holiday Crush, the rose gold lipstick from the Snow Ball makeup collection, which I actually used as an eyeshadow base.

SAY WHAT?!

Lipstick as an eyeshadow base

Yeah, lipstick lids. Just when I thought I knew everything about lippies, BAM! — I see a makeup artist using a lipstick as an eyeshadow base. So I gave it a try too.

Surprise! The eyeshadow base is actually a lipstick — MAC Snow Ball Lipstick (from the Snow Ball makeup collection) in Holiday Crush, a metallic rose gold.

I got the idea from a UK-based makeup artist I found on Instagram named Joe Flood, and if you aren’t following him now, please do yourself a favor and follow this dude right now! He’s crazy creative and has a great sense of humor about makeup, which I love, because it doesn’t have to be so serious!

Glistening Rose gold lids and purple liner

My favorite things on his feed are the dreamy collages of eye looks that he does. He recently posted one of shiny rose gold lids using Holiday Crush as a base and purple liner, which I used as the jumping off point for my look here.

Holiday Crush Lipstick as a lid base… Kinda sorta lovin’ it. It’s a lipstick, so it’s super creamy, obvs, and it gives that same creamy, wet look to lids. It’s like a rose gold version of MAC Cream Colour Base in Hush, so you get that glistening finish, along with some scooting, too. So, as the day goes on, it moves a little, which is very rock ‘n’ roll.

Highlights for days from Vanilla Pigment

I boosted the glimmer even more by buffing English Gilt Pigment (one of the pigments from the Pigments and Glitter in Gold kit) on top of Holiday Crush Lipstick. I used a MAC 217 and light, circular motions. Then, I patted Gold Glitter on top of that using my fingers.

(Yes, it got everywhere, and that was fine with me.)

Next, I highlighted my inner corners with the Vanilla Pigment, also from the Gold kit, and thought, hey, let’s go all the way with this, so I also swept it on the bridge of my nose and my upper cheekbones.

And now with the red lip

I know it’s not the conventional way to wear lipstick, and it’s definitely not something I plan to do daily, but it’s a lot of fun when you’re in the mood to experiment with textures and finishes!

The makeup I’m wearing…

EYES

MAC Snow Ball Pigment and Glitter Kit in Gold, pigments in English Gilt (from lash lines to crease) and Vanilla (inner corner)
  • MAC Snow Ball Mascara Kit False Lash Primer and Mascara (upper and lower lashes) and Clear Brow Gel (brows)
  • MAC Swiss Chocolate Eyeshadow (inner part of crease)
  • NARS Velvet Eyeliner in Nagoya (upper and lower lash lines)
  • MAC Snow Ball Makeup Collection Lipstick in Holiday Crush (base)

LIPS

  • MAC Snow Ball Lip Bag in Nude (Doubletime Lip Pencil, Sending Love Lipstick and Iced Dream Lipglass)
  • MAC Snow Ball Lip Bag in Red (Kiss Me Quick Lip Liner and Hooray for Holiday Lipstick)

CHEEKS

  • MAC Lipstick in Sending Love from the MAC Snow Ball Lip Bag in Nude (apples)
  • MAC Pigment in Vanilla from the MAC Snow Ball Pigment and Glitter Kit in Gold (upper cheekbones)

SKIN

  • Chantecaille Rose de Mai Face Oil (to moisturize and prep)
  • Urban Decay Urban Defense Complexion Primer (cheeks, forehead, nose)
  • MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation in NC42 mixed with MAC Strobe Cream in Pinklite (all over mah face)
  • MAC Matchmaster Concealer in shades 4 and 6 (under eyes)
  • Sephora Future Gel Serum Concealer in Pecan Pie (cheeks)
  • MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium Golden (on my forehead and nose)

TOOLS

  • Snow Ball Brush Kit / Basic
  • Snow Ball Brush Kit / Advanced
  • Snow Ball Brush Kit / Mini

And that’s what I did! It’s not an everyday look, for sure, but I like how how it turned out.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I love the purple / rose gold combo! That’s a color combo I could do.

Thanks, Chelsea. I bet you could take this up a notch by doing purple winged liner. Maybe for your next performance?

      Happy Monday!

I have used lipstick on my lids before, when I didn´t own any red based shadows and wanted to wear a red eye, but I set them with powder to take away the glossiness. Next time I´ll try them solo.

Oh that’s a great trick! I’ll try powdering my lids next time I do this.

      Hi Ruchita,

Thanks lady! I think you should wear a red lip and take a pic with all the fur kids. How’s Louis getting along with the rest of the family, by the way?

It is a glossy lid but it’s only VERY glossy from certain angles. I think it’s a great holiday look!

Gorgeous! Purple is my favourite colour and it always looks so good on you! Also, using a lippie as a base – GENIUS! Never, ever thought to do that before.

      Hi Ash,

It’s kind of mind blowing, right? Next time I do it, I’m going to try setting it first with a transparent powder just for kicks. 🙂

OMG I totally LOVE that shine on your eyes! It looks so beautiful. I always have liked a shiny eyelid.

Thanks, Kellly! I love a shiny lid too, especially when they’re relatively comfy and not sticky. 🙂

      Happy Tuesday to ya.

So pretty! I love how it turned out. I might need to try a lipstick as a base next time.
