Answers to Your Burning MAC Velvetease Lip Pencil Questions

December 17th, 2015 by Karen 8 Comments

The MAC Velvetease Lip Pencils

Got some questions about the MAC Velvetease Lip Pencils the other day…

Do they retract?

From Tatiana:

“They twist up, but do they retract as well? Or is it just a one way mechanism? I love the NARS pencils, but the caps always fall off in my bag and make a mess. I like that I don’t need a sharpener for these.”

Hi Tatiana,

Yes, they twist up, AND they retract, so you’re not stuck with a pencil tip poking out of the end, which leads me to wonder…why does anyone ever make a lip pencil that doesn’t retract? That sounds like crazy business to me!

Are they like the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils?

From Jessica, Alexis and, seriously, half of YouTube:

How do these compare to the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils?

Hi guys,

They’re similar. Like the NARS Velvet Mattes, the MAC Velvetease Pencils feel light, comfy and creamy, and they’re packed with pigment. I don’t think you can go wrong with either one, but I think the MAC pencils are slightly thinner and creamier, so they go on smoother.

I also think they’re a little less drying than the NARS Velvet Mattes.

Oh, and the sharpening sitch? The NARS ones have to be sharpened, which can be a pain if you don’t like toting a sharpener around with you.

Grudge match: MAC Velvet Teen vs. NARS Train Bleu?

From Nessajane021:

“Can you compare the darkest one [Velvet Teen] to NARS Train Bleu?”

Hi Nessajane021,

I think both are pretty colors. They have that dark wine/burgundy/eggplant vampy vibe, but I think that MAC Velvet Teen looks slightly darker on the lips.

What’s up with Baby Girl?

bump watch 28 weeks 2

From HeyIts Mel:

“Can you do another baby update?!?! We’d love to know how baby girl’s doing.”

Hey Mel,

What’s up with Baby Girl? Well, her feet! Because her head is pointing down, so her feet are pointing up. Baby Girl sends her regards, by the way. She’s 28 weeks and kicking like a little ninja right now! I’m gonna do another video update later this afternoon or tomorrow. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I haven’t tried the NARS ones yet, but I do have my eyes on some MAC ones.

I just tried the Nars Velvet Pencil for the first time and I really like it so I think I’d like these Mac ones too!

I loved the NARS Velvet pencils but HATED having to sharpen them, so I’m going to have to get some of these! Thanks for doing the head to head comparison!

Aw, you and Baby Girl are so cute. 🙂
PS I love the feathery bits on your sweater.

Thanks for the shout-out. The hard part is deciding which pencil I’ll be picking up. My other fav is Bobbi Brown’s Art Stick in Cassis but it’s a drag that has to be manually sharpened.

Thanks for the info and the comparison to the NARS pencils. Yeah for not having to sharpen the MAC pencils. Yeah, for having found some $$ tucked into one of my nightstand drawers. Now I have some cash to spend on these or some other makeup goody. Glad to hear baby girl is doing well.
