What Were Your Best and Worst Beauty Experiences of the Week?

May 23rd, 2010 by Karen 35 Comments

MY BEST:

Thanks to miraculous Burt’s Bees Coconut Foot Cream, I finally got my cracked heel situation under control! ๐Ÿ™‚

MY WORST:

This one’s also foot related, but I’ve been ambling around with a pedicure that looks about four weeks past due (aka BAD). My toenails are starting to resemble Tabs’ claws, EWW!

What were your best and worst beauty experiences of the week? Please share yours in the comments.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Best: I went to the MAC at the Beach pre-launch party with my BFF and stayed on budget, if not spent below the budget. I picked up some goodies and love them all, though I am tempted to go back on the official launch date to buy the Splashing lipglass as well. I am loving loving the Marine Life Highlight powder, I am just looking at it now because I don’t have the heart to take of the overspray yet….it is too pretty.

Worst: I broke a bottle of nailpolish: OPI Russian Navy and made a mess. It happened late at night and I had to clean it up instead of going to sleep. It ruined my manicure as well. Luckily Russian Navy is a permanent colour and I can always buy another one.

Best: I finally got around to trying NYX Eyeshadows. I bought the Aquamarine Trio and was pleasantly surprised by how nice they are for drug store eyeshadow.

Worst: I tried Pixe Epoxy. Fail! LOL

Best: deciding not to spend money I didn’t have on a new dress from modcloth and instead found one very close to it at the local Catholic thrift shop. $3 instead of $125. There’s no bigger high for me that looking high dollar on a budget that’s low peso.

Worst: Being told at my local sephora in a disapproving tone, “Oh honey, you’re so PALE,” and then swiping bronzer all over my face. I’m actually pretty proud of being pale and work hard to maintain the “porcelain pallor”. I use sunscreen religiously. MAC NC15 is too dark for me, even though I love its coverage. Sometimes I feel bad for reflecting more light than the moon when standing next to tanned women, but there’s a pretty big bonus–I’m 27 and get mistaken regularly as an 18-20 year old. I noticed that I looked a lot more beautiful when I played up my strengths and was proud of who I naturally was instead of trying to be someone different….like being bronzed! that is not my thing!

But yeah. Nothing takes the wind out of my sails faster than an SA trying to convince me that my natural skin tone is something that needs to be “fixed.”

best: i have two. aquafina lipbalm and sally hansen hard as wraps nail treatment. lately my nails have been splitting, peeling and bending so easily, it was very, very aggravating! and my lips have been peeling and splitting, too. so i started back on my vitamins, and got those two products. the results are fantastic. my nails are grown out and at least 50% stronger now, and my lips are soft and normal again. i think i must not have been drinking enough water, and i got really lazy about my vitamins. but those two products i can recommend without hesitation. the lipbalm only took one nite to work, and the nail treatment i applied everyday for two weeks with one complete reapply each week.

worst: not taking care to exfoliate thoroughly before my jergens self tanning lotion. i’m pretty streaky. it’s been 4 days since i started my tanner again, and ya really do have to slough off the dead skin in your shower and maybe mix in some of your regular lotion with the tanning lotion, too. my toe knuckles are ORANGE. xo

Best: I took advantage of the Beauty.com 20% off sale for Friends & Family (got the link from temptalia). I stocked up on 2 bottles of Murad toner and 2 Shu Uemura eyelash curlers. ๐Ÿ™‚ I was also able to finally try out the pink/purple Rock N Roll look that was posted over a month ago and I absolutely love it!

Worst: Accidentally scratching a zit and popping it :(((

My best was being complemented on my hair at another show for my boyfriend. My red hair and dark auburn extensions fooled a cosmetologist. She actually started digging through my hair to find the wefts. She also said I look better as a red head since she knew me when my hair was blonde.

The worst had to be getting chocolate pudding in my hair for the bar I help promote. I’m never eating pudding again after being asked to wrestle in it. I can’t get the pudding all the way out of my hair.

Best: walked a couple miles in the Texas heat to an Astros game, and my makeup still looked good by the time I got home.

Worst: my fingernails are peeling and awful. I did my nails 2-3 times a week for about a month straight, and when I took a break, they were destroyed. I want to paint them again but I just haven’t had time to give them the tlc they need first.

BEST: I went to Lush and got Grease Lightning….feels great on my face! Also got some new skin masks and a L’Occitane Green Tea perfume.

WORST: On my birthday, my family and I went for a night trip to the Jersey Shore. I forgot my razor…and I badly needed to shave my legs. As soon as we got home, we had to leave to a party, so I had to shave wearing my makeup and party clothes. Never a fun thing!

BEST: The black and blue is in the crease and can easily be hid with shadow! Looks like I’ve got a dark shadow week coming up…

    Hey Karen:

I got started with make up and buying different products (DRUGSTORE) and I thank GOD I didnt go over board and purchased a lot. Its been over a year and I turn to Department Store brands more and more.

Even though its more $$$ then drugstore I think its way more worth it then keep buying and being disambiguated with drugstore make up and other products!

P.S. Dont get me wrong there are some drugstore products that I re-purchase over and over again because i am pleased with them, but unfortunately there are not many!

Worst: Ha ha ha…I started curling my hair, starting at the bangs, and the burglar alarm came on! It wasn’t even activated, and it was just a glitch, but I had turned my head at that moment…now I have a burn mark straight up on my forehead. Sigh. It’s starting to peel away today though. =)

Best — trying out LUSH and not breaking out. I felt like even if my skin care routine worked, I also needed to change things up a little. Im using Angels on Bare Skin daily now and my face is liking it.

Worst — I need a pedicure! :{ I just dont have the time to sit down and do it myself or haul myself to the nail salon.

I hope to do better on that one this week!!!

Best: It’s Week 1 of my medically supervised diet-and-exercise kick, and I have already lost four pounds. FOUR. POUNDS. That’s weight I should’ve lost months ago if I hadn’t slacked off and let my job stress get to me. I’m taking this as an indicator that I should continue working out!

Worst: I seriously need a pedicure, too – and it looks like the sparkly purple nail polish that I used on my fingernails is all wrong for the summer. Time to start all over again!

BEST: Tons of compliment s on my Chanel violine eyeliner today! Rad!

WORST: DEFINITELY having my luggage stolen. All of it. Tons of brand-new makeup, all of my toiletries, all of my formal clothes, my prized Creme de la Mer…over a grand in girl-goods gone. Plus, due to having no clothes, I missed one of my best friend’s weddings. I make minimum wage, so my hard-earned prizes and the beauty gifts from loved ones were extra special to me. Good thing I left that eyeliner at home, eh?

Best: I went to the MAC To the Beach Preview Party last week and got some lovely goodies. I skipped on all of the bronzers though since I tan easily. I love Hipness blush ๐Ÿ™‚

Worst: My nails are drying out and peeling at the tips. It’s soooooo annoying. I’m rubbing China Glaze Orange Oil in, but my nails are still pretty dry. I’m going to up my omega oil intake and hope that it makes new nail growth stronger.

Worst (kind of 2 of them): I got one of the Smashbox cream eyeliner palettes, and it made my eyes all irritated and puffy! So I returned it at Sephora and bought a cute little Too-Faced travel palette. When I opened it at home, the blush was broken! Grrr!!!

Best: A couple weeks ago, I got my hair re-layered. Lately, I’ve just been letting it air dry, and I’ve been getting really pretty waves all week! I love not having to do much with my hair! lol =]

Worst: Right after this happened, I KNEW I had to report it here. On my last day of school (Friday), my under eye concealer was just not loving me! No matter what I did, I had these terrible flakes and redness under my eyes, and my dark circles (evident of my past week of finals) were just popping off my face! NOT cute! It was a very strange experience since I never have problems with flaky skin anywhere on my face, let alone under my eyes! =[

Best – a few standout color surprises:

Bobbi Brown Lip Shine in Raspberry Pink – not too bright – lovely pop of pink on my NC42 skintone
Essie nailpolish in Turquoise & Caicos – it actually works for me.
UD XXX shine in Baked – a lovely shimmery gloss that doesn’t aggrivate my lips and gives a vinyl finish to my lips haha
UD Sephora exclusive e/s – Purple Haze – looks fabulous smoked out on the lower lashline with a bronzey eyeshadow.

    Worst:
Obsessing over the Bobbi Brown Lip Shine in Desert Rose – sold out even online. Also as you can see I spent waaaay too much money on product as planned – what else is new, right?

My BEST: Found the new Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Nail Color display high on a shelf in Walgreens. Iced Coffee is the perfect natural shade for my nails and the super fast drying time allows me to paint them two to three times a week. (they chip and peel if I look at them too hard).

My WORST: Googling OPI Axxium Soak-Off Gel Laquer and realizing none of the nail salons in my state provide this possibly life-altering product,
