What Were Your Best and Worst Beauty Experiences of the Week?

Published in: Just For Fun

Lately, I’ve been trying to eat less junk food and exercise more, and I’ve noticed a wee difference (aka, I feel slightly less like a sausage in my favorite jeans). Small victories, ya know?

Probably TMI, but the warmer weather’s making my scalp go nuts. Thank goodness for dandruff shampoo and white shirts!

What were your best and worst beauty experiences of the week? Please share yours in the comments.

I think my best beauty experience of this week was getting my hair done yesterday. I’d waited a month longer than usual and it was a complete mess. Having my roots done and a couple of inches taken off the ends has made all the difference. I’ve got a horrible cold at the moment and I’ve totally lost my sense of smell and taste, so I couldn’t smell the yummy things the put in my hair which was a shame.

My worst beauty experience has been trying to get my foundation to look right. Because of the cold my nose is really sore and the skin is all flaky and yuck. Any foundation I’ve used has just highlighted that fact so its been pretty depressing.

Hopefully, I’ll be back to normal in a few days. I want to taste things again! Everything is just texture at the moment. πŸ™

Best: Picked up MAC’s Petting Pink Tinted Lip Conditioner from out of the bottom of my MU bag again and I remember why I love their TLCs… Now I want to go out and hoard all the colours, especially since my counter still has the Warm and Cozy shades in stock πŸ™‚

Worst: My skin is totally flipping out… considering it was my first white, snowy winter I thought I got through it unscathed, but I’m slowly finding dry patches on my cheeks and my nose is just peely like a mudder humper. AND to top it of my beloved Purity Exfoliating Wash is doing nothing to aid the situation…. =/

  3. Katie says:

My best is using Herbal Essence “Long Term Relationship” shampoo and conditioner. It works really well for my hair.

My worst is that 2 of my nails on my right hand are peeling. I’ve never had that happen before and it’s a pain because my nails are always manicured. I bought some hair, skin, and nails vitamins at GNC to see if it helps.
    .-= Katie’s last blog post… I have really long hair. =-.

  4. YJ says:

Best: I woke up this morning running totally late, so I didn’t have time to blowdry my hair. I have the most wavy/curly frizzy hair (which sucks because I’m Korean and I want that beautiful silky straight hair all my friends have), and sometimes it’ll dry out nicely with some gel, and other times it’ll just look an absolute mess, but even with all the fog and humidity outside today, my hair sat in perfect wavy spirals! So happy, I don’t want to sleep on it tonight and mess it up! =)

Worst: You know when you look haggard and no amount of makeup will make you look pretty? That was me yesterday, and I overcompensated with highlighter and bronzer, which made me look like a haggard shiny bronzed freak! It’s okay though, I learned my lesson. Washed my mug and started over! =)
    .-= YJ’s last blog post… Bleh. =-.

  5. Karen F says:

Best: The nice guy at Sephora give me a healthy sample of Laura Mercier’s Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer and I love it. I’m always on the hunt for that “perfect” TM and this one seems in the running for top honors after all the ones I’ve tried. It will be my next purchase once I finish my LORAC and MAC TMs.

Worst: This morning I used Nair Sensitive Formula to remove this little blond ‘stache I have going on my upper lip (visible to only me I hope). Anyhoo, left it on perhaps a minute too long and now I have a little red ‘stache going! Oh, it still stings!

  6. Jayme says:

My best has been finally getting my morning makeup routine to under 10 minutes, which means that much more sleep for me.

My worst was getting a giant pimple in the middle of my forehead

  7. Nina says:

Worst was being in an eye makeup rut at the start of the week – actually a carry over from the week past.

Best would be getting out of that said eye makeup rut via the Wet n Wild eyeshadow palette – its an awesome product at an even awesome-r price!

  8. Kelsey says:

best: my amazing friends. I got to spend a lot of time with them this weekend and it was a fantastic weekend.

worst: Tuesday I wasn’t feeling like myself all day, I was just really down for no reason.

  9. Rachel says:

My best beauty experience of the week was discovering Rimmel’s Stay Matte Foundation. At $6.99 it’s a steal and looks really nice on my skin. I tend to use mineral foundations (BE, Smashbox Glow) but I was looking for a liquid that had a similar finish and wouldn’t clog my pores. I think I found it!

Worst beauty experiences? Ummm…I honestly can’t think of much. Maybe going through of my makeup and realizing just how much money I’ve spent on all of this stuff! Yeesh!

  10. my best, discovering the body deli’s blueberry fusion scrub. love it . My worst, running out the house and forgetting I had zit cream on my cheeks. after 6 blocks someone finally told me.

  11. Kim says:

I’ve been using Stila’s mango crush lip/cheek stain (yum!) on my cheeks for that awesome natural flush. I just bought it a couple of weeks ago, so I’m really glad I spent the money on it. It doesn’t feel heavy and it certainly doesn’t go away if you have an oily face.

Lots of bad hair days (weather has been rainy, rainy, rainy, cold, and rainy). Uneven skin tone and looking kinda sallow this week, too. Maybe it’s just the weather making me feel like my skin isn’t great. I also feel like my pores and blackheads on my nose are throwing flash grenades at people — LOOK AT ME!!!. That whole bag. Yuck.

    • Mina says:

ooh! I have the Stila lip/cheek stain in mango and pomegranate, and I haven’t quite been able to figure out the best way to apply it to my cheeks! Any suggestions?

      • Kim says:

Actually, I haven’t! I’ve been trying it like this: Click the pen two or three times, brush it onto my cheeks in a couple of stripes on the apples and then use my middle finger to (QUICKLY!!) rub it into the right places. The only complaint I have is that if you’re not quick enough, this stuff will just straight up dry on you in the most unsightly manner.

If I had some of those sponge wedges I think I’d wet them and ring them out so it’s still moist, then do everything the same way with the exception of rubbing it into place with the wedge instead, in hopes that it won’t dry nearly as fast.

        • Mina says:

Ahh, so the secret *is* to be quick with them! I’ve tried them as lip stains so far, and wow, have I learned that I HAVE to be quick with them! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten uneven coverage or had to touch up with lip balm. That experience has held me back from putting the stains anywhere near my cheeks!

The damp sponge is a really great idea; I’ll be sure to try it out. πŸ™‚ Thanks! I wish the consistency was more like Benetint or High Beam, though not as creamy. Oh well!

  12. pinksoysauce says:

Best: Looking back at old pictures and seeing how much my skin has cleared up! Which reminds me, it’s almost time to replace my jar of DDF Sulfur Mask (which is a serious miracle worker – it cured my acne!)

Worst: My hands and feet have been chapping a ton lately, and I’m not sure why since spring’s just around the corner and winter’s nearly gone.

  13. amy says:

Best, I bought the very last bottle of Essie Turquoise and Calcos nailpolish at my local beauty boutique. I can’t stop looking at my nails because the colour is so yummy. I have been getting lots of lovely compliments for the colour.

Worst, I was cleaning and organizing my nailpolish stash and realize in horror that my Chanel Le Vernis in Kaliedoscope has been leaking because i haven’t closed it properly and the bottle tipped over, resulting in waste product. God knows how much I lost, because the last time I touched the bottle was in November.

  14. marisa says:

best: the purchase of a billion new skincare products in my new efforts to actually take care of my skin. πŸ™‚

worst: the complete failure of my sunscreen while out on a boat yesterday, leaving the whole front of my body severely sunburned. it hurts to even wear clothes. πŸ™

  15. Scientific Housewife says:

Best would be trying out chamomile tea toner and seeing what it does for my redness.

Worst would be the spray tan I got coming off unevenly and making me look like a leper πŸ™

  16. Rachael says:

Best: I managed a voluminous (but not Bump it like) hairstyle for when I went out with my girls on Friday. I wish I remembered what I did since I was in a hurry.

Worst: My entire look today. I don’t even want to get into it. That’s bad.
.-= Rachael’s last blog post… License to Thrill: I Wanna be a Bond Girl =-.

  17. Instant Karma (formerly L) says:

Best: I got my box from the Sephora 15% off sale! I’ve already used the MUFE eyeliner I received and one of the Sephora by OPI polishes that comes in their spring four pack. My toenails are a shimmering purple and they look lovely!

Worst: I got a MASSIVE zit near my mouth. Usually, I get little zits that are easy to cover. Oh no, this one is huge and EXTREMELY RED. I’m considering faking a beauty mark.

  18. mkdallas says:

Best: I’ve been really working on my fingernails (the whole longer, stronger thing) and gave myself a manicure that looked almost professional. I kept admiring them all weekend.

Worst: Not seeing TABS (!!!) in his usual Sunday column. Wassup with that?

  19. Steph B says:

Best: Stocked up at Ulta since they had a bunch of promotions. Bought 2 Essie polishes and got 1 free. Got an Ecotools retractable powder brush and got a 2nd half off for my mom. Best part — they were giving you $5 coupons for every $20 you spent and they calculated my coupons based on my pre-discount total and rounded up so I got 3 coupons for $57 worth of stuff even though I only spent $32! Woo hoo! And now I get to go back next week and get $15 free indulgence. I’m thinking bright polishes for my toes in colors I’ve been too chicken to wear.

Worst: Major dry patches on my cheeks. My skin had calmed down after a harsh winter and I don’t know what is up now. I got a small bottle of Josie Maran’s 100% Argan Oil for my hair during Sephora’s sale and I’m going to see if that’ll work its magic on my cheeks.

  20. Vonvon says:

My best would be trying out my new Bobbi Brown Orchid Color Strip and found that matte eyeshadows do work for me. And also discover the Pacifica Tuscan Blood Orange body butter which is so my type of fragrance and really moisturizes my skin.

Worst…this week, my break-out has lessened….well, it should be a good experience. For the past few weeks, I found zit popping out quite often, but this week, so far no new ones. and the existing ones are drying up and resolving. *fingers crossed

  21. Christy says:

Best: Ok, I got two. Firstly, I got Murad Acne Spot Treatment. Freaking awesome! All the little pimples on my cheeks have gone down and don’t feel like they’re going to turn into big nasties any time soon. Secondly, I finally cracked open up Hard Candy Baked Blush in Pin Up and Honeymoon that I got a few weeks ago. They are gorgeous and cheap! I am so glad I went to Walmart πŸ™‚

Worst: I finished up my first tube each of MAC Volcanic Ash Exfoliator & Thermal Mask at the same time. This just happened today, but that’s alright, I have 4 backups of each. πŸ™‚

  22. caitlyn says:

Best: Buying my first bottle of MUFE HD Foundation yesterday! The color matches my skin *perfectly* and I get good coverage without the scary-white-overly pale foundation face I had with my previous foundation.
Worst: Struggling a lot with learning how to apply eyeliner. I tried MAC’s Fluidline and for the life of me I can’t draw a straight line with the 263 brush. Switched to MUFE’s Aqua Eyes and that seems a tad more promising, but I still have a looooooooong way to go.

    • Jen says:

When I first started applying eyeliner, I was pretty bad at it too. All I can say is, practice practice practice! And start off with pencils; they’re much easier (MUFE Aqua Eyes is a great choice!). Gel liners tend to be trickier, but you’ll get the hang of them in time! πŸ™‚

    • Lily says:

I tried on the MUFE HD foundation and I loved it! but i still have a huge bobbi brown bottle to go through πŸ™

      • caitlyn says:

Lily – how coincidental that you have a bottle of Bobbi Brown foundation to get through, because the not-so-great foundation I was referring to was Bobbi Brown!! Funny. πŸ™‚ I’m thinking of swapping it away on makeupalley because I can’t make myself use it. It really accentuates the dark circles under my eyes because the shade is too pale. Too bad I didn’t notice it earlier.

  23. Celine says:

Best: Being recommended Laura Mercier Oil-Free Foundation. I bought a bottle, and wow! Amaazing!

Worst: The effects of PMS: sausage fingers and acne! I couldn’t take my ring off!
.-= Celine’s last blog post… maravi: I just noticed my cat has been licking a pair of my jeans for 2 hours. It’s saliva soaked. Gross, cat, gross. =-.

  24. Jen says:

Best: On Monday, I wore UD 24/7 eye liner in Flipside and layered UD’s Stardust shadow in Atmosphere over it. Just liner and mascara, but the color is SO PRETTY!

Worst: I wore stiletto boots out last night and walked A LOT in Waikiki. I now have blisters on my feet πŸ™

  25. meimei says:

Best: Paring down my “work face” to the very basics: mineral powder, mascara, and lipstick. I’m adding a little more blush and eyeshadow to the look, though.

Worst: Any day that makes me cranky at work. Especially if said day ends up with me doing a lot of frowning.
.-= meimei’s last blog post… Monthly Favorites: April Edition =-.

  26. mill says:

picked up the new MAC look in a box (in indie girl) which happens to be jam packed full of products i’ve wanted for ages! woo! also skin = good at the moment becuase i picked up some cheap weekly face mask (freeman’s cucumber peel- off) and a jelly sponge for daily exfoliation. eeee!

worst- . i guess one beauty worst is figuring out my hereditary dark circles (thanks, medditeranean parents) will never be concealed, due to their brown undertones and my deep- set eyes. the closest i’ll come is ALMOST concealing them. hmmf.

  27. Lexi says:

Karen! I”m so glad that you mentioned your scalp- mine has been freaking out as well! What have you been doing to treat it? I’m worried that something like “head and shoulders” will just strip my hair. Any suggestions, ladies?

    • Fieran says:

Try using an olive oil hair mask – apply olive oil prior to showering. Leave for 30 minutes and wash. Really helps with flaky scalp. I use it in winter a lot πŸ™‚

  28. Tessa says:

Best; I was in a bus for 24 hours and to be honest, I didn’t look too bad. My make up stayed on its place, while normally it smudges really badly, so that was really great!
Worst; my hair today. WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT?!

  29. lexi says:

Discovering NARS highlighting powder, Albatross. Finally a highlighter that I absolutely love!

Sunburned shoulder – right side only. Yup, I should have known better – use something higher than SPF 15 if you are going to sit in the sun at a Giants game all day! Double Boo that they lost but I did have sunshine and beer to make me feel better!

  30. Connie says:

I’ve just started using a set of “high-end” haircare products and the results are amazing! But so expensive πŸ™ Great, frizz-free manageable hair nonetheless so that’s the best beauty experience of the week!
Worse would be the odd zits cuz it’s that time of the month again…
    .-= Connie’s last blog post… Him-Spired Tutorials: Leonardo DiCaprio =-.

  31. Kristen says:

Best: Getting my eyebrows shaped. They were unruly and unshapely. I feel like a new woman!

Worst: My face = breakout city. And I don’t know why! Stress is looking like the most likely candidate…yet another reason to get my butt back to yoga.

  32. Zeni says:

Best: Finally realizing that the reason I can’t mimic some of my fave celeb hairstyles is because my hair has it’s own mind and has decided that it is fabulous and I love it!!! Even if it does still have a tendency to almost look like I did the nasty… with out actually doing the nasty!

Worst: There are two, but one is going away and that one is my monthly break out that is followed by my monthly visitor. The other is a dry spot just below my eye!! I don’t know how to get rid of it!!! I can’t exfoliate there and I’ve been plastering it with moisturizer!!!

  33. Alice says:

worst beauty experiences: this week deserves a plural… I have two broken nails, my forehead is breaking out, and my brows are quickly becoming horribly bushy! I hope this week will be better cause I feel like s..t!

best: I did the first sunbathing of the year! It felt absolutely wonderful, and it took away the winter greyness of my skin! I’m looking healthy now!!!
