What Were Your Best and Worst Beauty Experiences of the Week?

Published in: Just For Fun

MY BEST:

Couple of good ones this week, which is great because they offset the doozies I have for the “Worst” list below… I’ve had a series of really good hair days, and the pimples on my chin are in full retreat, huzzah!

MY WORST:

I haven’t been taking care of my feet, and now the skin on the tops of my tootsies resembles worn leather. :( Most of the last polish I used has chipped away, and even my cuticles look like shredded carrots. I plan to rectify the situation tonight. Also, I haven’t been having good luck with mascara lately — ya know, when you finish your eye makeup, blink and get mascara all over the place? That’s SO ANNOYING!

What were your best and worst beauty experiences of the week? Please share yours in the comments.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Best: its not really a good thing, but i had to be hospitalized this week but i swear the morphine they gave me cleared up my acne LOL. i guess thats the bright side of things that i now get to enjoy velvety smooth skin while i drag my butt back to school. Also i’ve been playing around with my old friend neutral shimmery eyeshadows, and i have to say i’ve missed the way these things brighten up my face.

Worst: i’ve been having some serious trouple with nail polishes these days. it seems like no matter what i do, it doesn’t want to stay chip free for more than a few hours. Arg. Also my hair has been doing so pretty funky things this week. Think medusa, but with dead snakes XD

  2. Karen F says:

Worst: A large pimple at the corner of my mouth right next to my lip…touching my lip! I treated it with Neutrogena Rapid Clear gel and really overdid it. It dried my skin out way too much leaving the area red and scaly and me in a “don’t want to leave my house” mood. After three days it is finally settling down.

Best: I came up with a new look for my eyes using Benefit Creaseless Creams. Sambad-y Loves Me, Bunny Hop or Sippin N’ Dippin’ on the eyelid up to the browbone and then Skinny Jeans in the corner V. Got a few compliments that my eyes looked great, which made my day! Hopefully the eyes diverted attention from the gigantic zit! Also had a good week with my nails, getting the cuticles under control- Barielle Intensive Nail Renewal Oil ($3 at Marshall’s).

  3. Hana Berlin says:

Worst: I’m breaking out like crazy!!! I never ever ever ever break out… i’m starting to think it’s my new bc pills =( i need to change them asap.

Best: Loving the new hemp organic shampoo i got… smells kinda wierd, but my hair is silky soft… =)

  4. Shah'ada says:

worst: time to find a new eyebrow waxer. ’nuff said.

best: i’m FINALLY getting the dang outer v crease goodness thingy ma jig.

  5. Shannon Steele says:

My best and worst beauty moments came in the same package this week. I have long been looking for a concealer that would counteract my dark under-eye area. Haven’t gotten good coverage in years! So i made a visit to my local theater make up company where a MA glanced at me and told me i was olive. I guess i had been fighting it all these years continuing to buy make up for warm tones. Well, just as he applied the concealer, achieving the most spectacular results… all those icy pink lipglosses i had been saving in hopes of finding that perfect liner on which to top it, all flew out the window.
It was bittersweet. But i’m totally loving my new concealer. Shout out to Kryolan!

  6. Steph B says:

Best: I bought a flat iron and damn if my wavy hair doesn’t feel silky with it. I figured it would look sleeker than when I blow it straight but feel about the same. Nuh uh. Now I just have to fight the urge to straighten every day because I don’t want to damage my hair and my cut just isn’t suited to it.

Worst: I can’t believe I’m saying this but Chanel’s Coco Rouge. This was my first ever Chanel purchase. Maybe because of all of the hype I feel especially let down. But after wearing it for two days with and without some sort of prep product, I find it clumps together in the natural lines of my lips (which aren’t that pronounced) and it dries my lips. It is going back to Nordstrom.

  7. Katie says:

Best: My skin is clearing up and has had a nice glow lately.

Worst: I just can’t seem to paint my nails this weekend without completely messing them up.
    .-= Katie’s last blog post… Cleaning Makeup Brushes =-.

  8. Kristine says:

Best: Bought a Remington Sleek & Curl and mastered the art of making pretty doll-curls with it. It also straightens very well!

Worst: Have suddenly gotten these tiny red bumps on my face, both on the forehead and chin. And ridges have appeared on my nails!

  9. Lucy says:

Best: I found my new favourite lipstick – Barry M Punky Pink! And also realised my fringe/bangs are grown out now. Plus the little flaky patch of skin I have just above my eye (how sexy do I sound!) is going. Yeah!

Worst: I bought some Seche Vite and I don’t think I really like?
    .-= Lucy’s last blog post… Cheat your way to a quick French polish… =-.

  10. Devs says:

Best- Rediscovering some of my old makeup!!

Worst- I am having the same problem as your with mascara! It’s SO annoying!!

  11. Shabby says:

I’ve tried two skin products — a BB cream and foundation — from two different Korean brands. So far so good, no breakouts. :D The worst is my trusted mascara is starting to fail me. -_- Other than huge solid bits would sometimes stick to my lashes, my lashes even feel heavy. I need to find a trusted, for-everyday mascara to replace it.
.-= Shabby’s last blog post… Shabby and her pouch =-.

  12. Aparnaa says:

best: I looked cute on Friday after I did my makeup at work
worst: hi painful pimple at the corner of my nose.

  13. pik says:

Worst: random breakouts and flaky skin…must be hormones + stress, cuz it’s both forehead and chin…GAH!

Best: My Aussie leave-in conditioner spray smells so good and makes my hair ridonk soft and wavy when i spray it on before i go to bed. also…5 of my girlfriends asked me to do henna tramp stamps on them while we had a movie night and they all turned out bada*ss haha. not exactly a beauty experience…but close enough. =D

  14. Schara says:

Best: Finally figured out my best foundation application technique (stipple and swirl w/ MAC 187 brush). Why didn’t I look this up on the internet before?

Worst: Can’t figure out my HG concealer to go with foundation… I’m tired of raccoon eyes.

  15. Liliana says:

Best: I finally got my urban decay primer potion and i love it
Worst: i’ve seriously had bad hair day for a week now, i really need a cut but never have the time to go an get it done. i cant wear my hair down bc it has no shape anymore, so all i have been doing is going to work with my hair up. hope fully this wee i’ll have time. keep my fingers crossed!! X

  16. Lana says:

Best? Trip to Sephora! Free samples!

    Worst? I don’t think I really have one…

  17. shivotra says:

Best: Getting my hands on Chanel’s coco rouge lipsticks. I got Camille and Orchidee <3, getting my back 2 MAC gift – I got Lychee Luxe lipglass :) and also exchanged my studio fix powder for the mineralize skinfinish powder. I love it so far.

    Worst – I have hobo hands…desperately. need. a. manicure.
    .-= shivotra's last blog post… How to: sexy bed-head waves like Sonam’s =-.

  18. Sarah says:

Hmm… worst was Tuesday when I woke up with my face so puffy I had trouble opening my eyes! That was a horrible day… Its hard having a mild cat allergy with four cats, it tends to get bad. Then I took a ton of allergy medications and ended up taking too many and feeling like a zombie for a couple days.

Best? My hair has apparently been looking nice lately? Although I think they said that in an attempt to stop my from french braiding it back again (it kind of makes me look 12, but its so easy! and then I don’t have to think about it for the rest of the day!)

Wow. I hope this week goes better…

  19. Ashley says:

Best: Putting on cream eyeliner has been a breeze with the new Maybelline Eye Studio (etc etc..) eyeliner brush brush. I can even do the ‘flick’ & do cat eyes!! It doesn’t hurt that the cream eyeliner itself is pretty darn good.
Worst: I have atleast 4 cankersores… all around my mouth. What in the world did i eat?!!?

  20. Stacie says:

Best: My hair has been behaving well this week.
Worst: My nails have been splitting like crazy. Normally I have really strong nails, so I’m not sure what’s going on.

  21. DonnaN says:

    A couple of each:

My best included finding a new lippie combo that Iove….MAC’s Viva Glam Cyndi and ChaCha gloss and getting a destash of an almost brand-new tube of MAC’s Strawbaby lipstick…MAJOR SCORE!!

My worst included super fast chipping of my STUDDED nails …they lasted about 36 hours. I am also having hair-issues with my bangs (which need a major overhaul) and a pimple starting just at the inner corner of my right eyebrow…..HOW ANNOYING!!!

  22. Kate & Zena says:

Worst: Hm, I haven’t really had a worst. Wait, one bad hair day on Friday.

Best: Two Words–ULTA HAUL. I think I’m becoming addicted. Mine has Benefit, Cargo, Urban Decay, Smashbox, Stila….lots of the same brands as Sephora and lots cheaper as I’m not paying s&h! I had daydreams of splaying over the Urban Decay, Benefit, Smashbox and Stila counters. I was in Make-up Heaven.

    • Karen says:

      Awesome! What did you get?

      • Kate & Zena says:

My mom bought me Benefit creaseless eye liner/shadow in Strut and a brand new full-size bottle of UDPP original. I have Eden but my dry eyelids don’t like Eden at the moment. My mom got a set of Ecotools brushes, Eucerin lotion, Cargo palette in Baja (I helped her pick that one out just so I can use it too!) and Benefit lipstick in Jing-a-ling. We spent soooooo much money. I about died when I saw the price. We justified it by saying, “Higher-priced make-up is made with higher grade materials meaning better quality. For our sensitive skin, this means a less chance of reacting to it.” We just won’t tell Dad the exact price. We fudged it….by nearly forty dollars (oh yea, I’ll be doing the kitchen for a looooooooong while).

I tried out a few UD lipsticks but I didn’t go home with any as I wasn’t feeling lipsticky and couldn’t justify spending $22 on a lipstick for some reason. I might have to go back and purchase Perversion or Naked. I’m having buyer’s remorse about not bringing one home!

I found a bunch of Smashbox brushes and two Stila lip glazes from somewhere last night. I was like, “When and where did I get these?” I think Zena’s been e-shopping for me because I don’t remember ever purchasing them!

  23. Rae says:

Best: started trying out a new lash serum!! I’m excited and hopeful ^^

Worst: Went to Sephora and fell in love with the new LORAC glosses while I was swatching them for a post that went up a few days back. They are SO pretty, but I can’t justify spending $29 for a lipgloss!
.-= Rae’s last blog post… Lash Boosting: Week Zero =-.

  24. Rebecca says:

Best: I’ve been getting better at doing my eye makeup – I did a really good smokey eye yesterday ^_^

Worst: These stupid little zits keep popping up on my face! They’re just there for a day or so, so it could be worse, but still – ANNOYING!
.-= Rebecca’s last blog post… Why I will buy something from MAC Tabloid Beauty =-.

  25. Melissa says:

best: creating an awesome home-made clarifying shampoo that did wonders for my hair! didn’t realize how much gunk i had in there, and perfecting a upper-lid black gel liner wing! woohoo

worst: dry flaky spots on my jawline that flake all day despite copious amounts of moisturizer, and looking at pictures from an event from saturday and seeing how shiny my face was even though it’s drier than the sahara! :(

  26. Michelle says:

Best: I pulled out my Tone Grey quad and I really love it. It has gorgeous greys and a lovely blue color — great for smokey eyes!

Worst: Looking back at my wedding photo where I had killer long thick eyelashes. What happened to them?? Now without mascara, they seem to disappear!

  27. Ditte K. says:

Best: Pimples AND cold sores the sides of my lips went away, so now I can go full speed on lipstick again :D

Worst: Yeah – also with the mascara – applied the perfect smokey eye with turqouis/black with a little purple and then mascara, and then I sneezed and destroyed everything.

    • Karen says:

Yes! A little bit of lipstick makes everything better.

Oh, and I do that sneezing thing with mascara all the time. It’s a miracle I haven’t poked my eye out (knock on wood).

  28. amy says:

Best: I really can’t think of a best for this week because I really held myself back in buying makeup for the last two weeks. I think mostly because of the Olympics have been keeping me out of malls and on the streets and bars for the parties.

Worst: I must say it is a really boring beauty week because there is nothing really that awful either. My skin is a bit dry and flakey from Retin A though.

  29. jesa says:

my best and worst beauty experience for the week is that i picked up a couple new mascara from rimmel (the lycra one and the flirty eyes) since they were bogo at cvs – i did a side by side comparison of the rimmel ones with against my dior iconic and the rimmel ones blew dior out of the water – so happy that i purchased the mascaras!! the worst part? i’ve been using dior iconic for a few years now at $30 a pop (and at the very least 4 different tubes a year) – do’h! i could’ve been using rimmel the whole time and saved so much money!! :)

  30. NINA says:

Best would be discovering a nice drugstore matte eyeshadow and using it all weekend. Love it!

Worst would be me needing a haircut again but having no time to make the trek to the salon …. maybe this coming weekend. I hope. :-)

  31. BEST: Bought new nail polish and makeup so I’m having fun experimenting.
WORST: Huge pimple between my eyes makes me look like I’m a unicorn hybrid.

  32. diane says:

The worst experience it’s regarding my nail, I had YV gel on them for about 4 months and now it’s off and my nails are in such misery… :(

The good experience is that I started wearing turquoise eyeshadow again and it looks great!

    kiss

  33. Keerthi says:

Worst: I fell asleep in my makeup and contacts THREE times this week (!) and as a result now have a stye on one eye and a zit in the middle of my face! :(

Best: I’m totally loving my OPI Jade is the New Black mani!
.-= Keerthi’s last blog post… swatch: rescue beauty lounge purple haze =-.

  34. Toni says:

Best: Using the LUSH Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter on my hands and feet. Holy Grail status for sure!

Worst: MAC paint pot in Fresco Rose. Love the color in the pot, loved it on the back of my hand. Made me look like I had an eye infection when I put it on my lids.

    • Karen says:

Normally I find Lush scents overwhelming, but I’ve tried one thing that I like and love (Coco Lotion), so I’m trying to keep my mind open to other things. How does the Cuticle Butter smell?

  35. Rengirl says:

Best: a couple of awesome drugstore finds: Maybelline Eye Studio Color Plush in Irresistibly Ivy and Physicians Formula Eye Enhancing Gel CreamLiner for Green Eyes. The e/s looks great with the purple gel liner on my blackish brown eyes. I’m wearing it now (two days in a row actually).

Worst: my eyes are still ridiculously dry, flaky and itchy. I can’t wait for winter to be over.

  36. Tiffany says:

best: got a clarisonic and haven’t had a zit since!

worst: my feet look terrible also :( I need some scrubbing.

  37. Genevieve says:

My best and worst this week are the same thing: not using make-up at all. I’m Catholic, and for Lent this year I opted to give up using make-up (except for chapstick, cause my lips get so dry lol). It’s the best because now I have a little more time in the morning to sleep in, so I get a little extra beauty sleep. It’s the worst because I’m only just coming out of a bad break-out, so my skin still has marks which I can’t put concealer on now. But overall, I’m feeling good so far about giving it up. :)

    • Karen says:

      Hi Genevieve,

Hope your breakout vanishes very soon! Have you heard of Clinique Even Better Serum? It works fab on getting rid of post-acne discoloration.

  38. marisol says:

My best would be rediscovering what I have in my make up stash due to the no buy.

My worst would be my hair. Lately it feels dull & lifeless. I’ve been wearing it curly just because I don’t want to deal with it. I don’t want to cut it since I am growing it out but it may just need some TLC
.-= marisol’s last blog post… Showing my Kindle some love =-.

  39. Worst: Not getting enough beauty sleep. I’ve been busy lately catching up on important projects.
Best: My new lipstick from Sophie Martin is natural peachy-rose shade that goes on matte and slides on smoothly.
