I keep seeing these Burger King commercials on TV where they show footage of real people freaking out at the counter after being told the Whopper is no longer for sale. It’s all a prank with hidden cameras done for the commercial, but most of the unwitting victims stare ahead in utter disbelief; others totally flip out, launching into verbal assaults on the poor cashiers who delivered the bad news. It’s as if a major paradigm shift has occurred. I love passionate people, but jeebus, guys, it’s a fast food burger!
Still, it got me thinking…. Is there anything I love so much that losing it would make me freak out like that at a sales counter? I always strive to be nice to customer service folks because I worked in retail for many years (girl, don’t make me bust out my pocket-T folding moves on ya), and I know how it is to be on the other side of a full-fledged customer freak-out. It takes a lot to get me to launch into a Whopper-esque meltdown in front of a sales person. It would have to be the loss of something really frickin’ great to push me over the edge. Perhaps integral to my existence, even.

Such things do exist, however, and without further ado (drumroll, please), here are nine things I would FREAK THE EFF OUT over if a sales person told me, “Sorry, we don’t sell _____ anymore. And neither does anyone else.”
In no particular order whatsoever:
So what’s on your freak-out list?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

haha this is fun.
1. Bobbi Brown pot rouge! i love the dewy glow effect it leave on me.
2. Shu curler. seriously i wonder is it make out of drug. i hate to curl eyelashes before I had it.
3. gotta say Ipod. haha music is my life.
4. MAC Technakohl eyeliner
so far this is my list. haha
oh yeah on the previous post comment you mention Asian market cosmetics, for luxury, I quite like Shu and Bobbi because of service and quality. MAC service here is really bad, it turn a lot of people off from buying. for drugstore, there are always maybelline, loreal, kate. Nowadays a lot of jap and korean brand coming to South East Asia (where I’m at)
January 28th, 2008 at 10:10 am
and Starbucks Java chip! they took it down for a while. I can’t stop complaining.
January 28th, 2008 at 10:29 am
Hmm, at first I thought “Oh, there’s nothing that would make me freak out…” Then I saw toilet paper on your list. Got me!
So I started thinking, and here’s my list:
1. Yes, me too, TP!
2. Chanel Teint Innocence compact foundation
3. Sunscreen!
4. Vans slip-ons
5. Cat food
6. Philosophy’s Purity Made Simple cleanser
7. Chanel Coco Mademoiselle
January 28th, 2008 at 10:36 am
Great post, Karen! It gave me something to think about in the shower this morning. I’m really anal about nearly everything in my life, so it was hard to pare the list down to 10 things:
1. Prescriptives Flawless Skin concealer (heavy duty stuff for my heavy duty undereye circles :D)
2. MAC Teddy Eye Kohl (a lot of brands have good black kohl eyeliner, but this brown is unique and perfect in every way and I would throw a huge tantrum if it were ever discontinued)
3. Shiseido The Skincare Purifying Foam Cleanser
4. Olay Complete Defense SPF 30 moisturizer
5. Shikai body wash (inexpensive, the scents are amazing, and it’s the only soap that doesn’t dry out my skin)
6. Miss Sixty Jeans
7. Pentel Powerpoint II Pens (VERY hard to find, and when I do find them I buy them by the box. These and Microns are the only pens I use.)
8. Korean kimchi beef tofu soup
9. Bumble & Bumble hair products (I’m with you on this one Karen)
10. Pumpkin muffins (I could eat tofu soup and these for every meal for the rest of my life and die happy. They’re seasonal at my local grocery store’s bakery and have a ridiculous amount of fat in them, so I made myself stop eating them. Then last week I was having a bad day, so I thought a pumpkin muffin would cheer me up. When I went to buy one they were gone, and I teared up. Seriously.)
January 28th, 2008 at 10:39 am
Okay, wait replace #6 (Miss Sixty jeans) with Gmail. oh man, this is hard…
January 28th, 2008 at 11:02 am
Haha Glosslizard two of mine are the same as yours!
1. Chanel teint innocence compact foundation.
2. Chanel Coco Mademoiselle.
3. Chanel Hyramax moisture cream.
4. sensodine toothpaste
5. johnsons baby wipes
6. Keratase intensive hair conditioner
7. My Chanel makeup brushes
8. tropicana orange juice
9. GHD hair straightening irons
oh my gosh just the thought of any of those things being taken away from me makes me feel physically sick!
January 28th, 2008 at 11:33 am
The things that would make me wail in agony if they were cancelled are (in no particular order)…
Feather covered cat toys (my kitten loves them)
1) Jugo Juice. If it shut down I might die of scurvy because of a lack of fruit.
2) Blacktrack eyeliner from MAC
3) French Vanilla coffee from Tim Hortons
4) AVEENO foaming facial cleanser
5) Paula’s Choice extra strength blemish fighting solution
6) Mechanical pencils
7) GAP jeans
9) Dubbonet MAC lipstick
10) MAC powder foundation
January 28th, 2008 at 11:36 am
Karen,
Here is my freak out list:
1. Dior Show Mascara
2. Aveda Hair Spray
3. Kryolan concealor palette (in light) — Holly grail of concealors!
4. IPhone
5. TP — totally! Using newspaper would suck!
6. MAC 1N Lipglass (I know the end is near, but I purchased 5 of these and hoping it is soooo popular they will regularly carry it).
7. Seven jeans! So much lycra that my ass looks 16 again (well almost).
8. Avene Skin Care — will freak if this ever gets discontinued.
9. Fiji water
Am I totally vain or what?
January 28th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
Karen,
This post made me laugh out loud! And I am totally in concurrence with you about the strawberry pop-tarts.
I actually wrote about my beauty freak-outs on my blog, you can check it out here — http://beautychick101.blogspot.com/2008/01/beauty-freak-out.html
Have a great day — and let’s hope none of these products are ever discontinued!

hmmm. I think part of my obsession with buying more and more makeup is the “hunt”….I like trying new brands, always on the lookout for the lastest product. So while I have many, many favorites I can’t think of any that I would really freak out over losing forver-there will always be something else to try! That said, I did come up with a couple other things in my life: (in no order), and a few are beauty-ish.
And stragely mine are all general items….I’m not super attached to brands I guess.
1. lip balm
2. agree w/ some of the personal care items in posts-mine is toothpaste and toothbrushes
3. Pets-not being allowed to have dogs or cats as pets
4. Good scripted TV (dramas, comedies, etc). Sadly we are getting close to this point, with the WGA strike and all. boo.
5. milk
6. cheese
7. coffee
BTW Karen, I watched “Rescue Dawn” with the hubby last night-it stars your man Christian Bale! have you seen it? Not bad for a *war* movie.
January 28th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
A lot of my freak-outs are food related, go figure:

2) Burt’s Bees chapstick
3) Johnson & Johnson Calming Nighttime lotion
4) Coffee Mate Sugar Free creamer in French Vanilla
5) Dreyer’s Slow Churned Peppermint Ice Cream (Seasonal)
6) Kashi’s Honey & Cinnamon Oatmeal (I have a mini freak-out whenever Target is sold out, but I always recover becuase I know more is on the way)
7) If Jessica Simpson ever stops making shoes I’m holding a memorial service in their honor
January 28th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
I would freak out over:
1. Tampons. Seriously can you imagine PMS’ing, going to the store and being told that they are no longer making tampons. I would lose it.
I used to break out in hives if I didn’t.
2. Ibuprofen and allergy medicine. I would be a mess if they were gone from my life.
2. Clinique moisture surge. I’ve been using it since I was 12.
3. Dove Soap. I’ve used it all my life.
4. My Sonicare Toothbrush…a regular toothbrush can’t compare.
5. Chocolate…if they suddenly made it illegal…i’d be a dope fiend.
6. Cell Phones…I’m dependent on it.
7. Bathroom Cleaner…I would have major issues on this one.
8. Aveeno lotion
9. Kathy Van Zeeland purses
January 28th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
oh! and Woodwinked! I forgot Woodwinked!
January 28th, 2008 at 2:23 pm

5. Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Oil Gel
January 28th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
I just love these list…okay off the top of my head
1. Caudalie beauty elixir and vinoperfect serum…I shudder to think of such a day when we can no longer be together
2.Tuna- gotta have my tuna steaks and my spicy tuna rolls. Perhaps the increased mercury will kill me but i’ll die happy
3.Ojon revitalizing mist- my hair needs this for behavior modification

5.Gelee browning oil by Carol’s Dtr. Smells terrific and gives me a perfect summer tan
6. Tinted moisturizer and my LancĂ´me Fatale mascara. I love them and I suspect they love me back

9.Fresh Sugar Lip gloss in sugar shag
10. Fabulous totes and stilettos.
January 28th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
Holly! Yay! It’s good to have company (plus with two of us freaking out, they’re far more likely to give in to our demands)!
Hi Melissa Street!
Do you mean Seven for all Mankind jeans? I’ve been hearing amazing things about them and if they do that for a rear, I’m sold!
Hi Amanda!

January 28th, 2008 at 4:31 pm
Ok here’s my list
1.)Picot - its an antacid, I think its from Mexico actually lol but I love love love this stuff, I think its just baking soda and citric acid in it or something like that but if you feel all yucky and nauseated this is a miracle worker immediately.
2.)Dove cool moisture line - Target already pissed me off cuz I think they recently stopped carrying the lotion and I never use to be hooked on any type of lotion or body wash till this line came out. So fresh.
3.)Arm & hammer baking soda and peroxice toothpaste- nothing makes my mouth feel cleaner and fresher.
4.) Targets brand of spanx
they’re more comfy than spanx, cheaper and they fit better.
5.)Smashbox primer - use it under my concealer under my eyes all the time so it won’t crease. its a must
6.)Diet Pepsi - I am truly addicted. If this went away I would have a fit of epic proportions…….even though I’m trying to quit….or cut down at least haha.
7.)Loreal voluminous mascara - used it forever, it works, the waterproof one never flakes or smudges and its not expensive, what more could you ask for?
January 28th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
Ooh thought of another
9.)My AHA brand aha lotion, its ph balanced, its well concentrated, and its cheap. Can not be beat.
January 28th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
1. Although life will go on, as it stands, I will definitely have a freak-out if MAC decided to shut it’s doors. “Get-me-an-eyeshadow!”
2. My Fisher-Price cradle swing. Honestly? I don’t know how our parents held babies 24/7 without this machine. This is by far THE BEST baby shower gift to ever receive!!
3. Toy cars - nuff said
4. Feminine sanitary products/diapers/toilets - can you imagine the mayhem behind this?
5. With you on the toilet tissue and pop-tarts.
6. RICE!! (for the big boy)
7. Thai Iced Tea, just shoot me already.
January 28th, 2008 at 4:56 pm

January 28th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
oh, and I forgot my Ipod…seriously, the smoke alarm went off in my dorm in the middle of the night, and instead of my phone, I grabbed my Ipod. We’re attached at the hip (or ear, I guess)!
January 28th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
1) Revlon Colorstay (Oily/Combo) Foundation in Buff
- - been using it everyday for 12 years.. I would FLIP. They had it on “Clearout” for 2 months (I didn’t know they were changing the packaging) and I called, wrote, emailed Revlon many many times..
2) Coco Chanel Madamoiselle. Love it. It reminds me of every special night/occassion ever. Because that is when I wear it.
3) Aveeno Creamy Moisterizing Oil Lotion. It’s not too thick or greasy and it heals my dry skin that I ignore until it’s “bad”.
4) Avene Cold Cream Lip Moisterizer. Wow..this stuff is the shiz. It saved my lips when I was sick for a long time once and now I use it as maintenance once a day or so.
5) Shiseido Gentle Cleansing Foam. A tube lasts 6 months. It takes off all my stay put make-up, like ACTUALLY. Smells great, lathers. Love it!!!
6) Miss Vickie’s chips. Darn it….maybe these SHOULD be discontinued. They are just so so good.
7) Lush’s American Cream conditioner and solid scent. Heavenly!
9)Vichy Thermal Spa Water. So many uses. So little time!
January 29th, 2008 at 2:46 am
1/ Dior foundation compact
2/ Dior addict lip glosses
3/ Shu Uemura eyelash curler
4/ Bubble tea & milkshakes
5/ Food
January 29th, 2008 at 6:21 am
There are many things out there I cant live without…tp, toothpaste, etc… but the most important things are as follows:
1. Coke zero, one can not live on water alone…
2. Coffee, from anywhere as long as they can make a nonfat latte I am happy!!!
3. Clinique Dramatically different moisturizing gel, my boyfriend and I would both throw down a hissy
4. Pilot G-2 07 in purple - I love this pen, I have a pen fetish (I have three drawers of pens at my office but I only use this one)
5. Cover girl volume exact in blackest black…love this stuff!
6. MAC anything…I would breakdown in the middle of the store if there was no MAC…I love everything that comes from them!!!
7. OPI nail polish…I do mani’s and pedi’s every sunday to relax and get ready for the work week…
8. Velvetta mac and cheese…this stuff is so bad for you but I have been eating it my entire life and I cant stop now!!!
9. Books…I would die if they wiped out all of the books in the entire world…what would I do while my sweetie watches star wars, indiana jones & planet earth (No offense but you can only watch them so many times and he has definetly surpassed that)
10. Flip flops - old navy prefferably!
11. Boots 4n1 quick thinking wipes - for those lazy days!
I’ve bored you long enough!
January 29th, 2008 at 8:31 am
Hi Ping,
LOL to your number 2. I actually have my Shu curler here on my desk. Hey, you never know if you’re going to have a lash emergency.
That’s too bad the MAC service isn’t great where you live. I’m like you in that the customer service I get makes a big difference in how I feel about a line.
I’ve heard of the Kate line before on Specktra. Is it one of the “better” drugstore brands?
January 29th, 2008 at 8:33 am
Hi Glosslizard,
I with you on six and seven. I gotta add sunscreen to my list, too.
Vans slip ons! I rocked the pink checker one back in the day.
January 29th, 2008 at 8:41 am
Hi AshB,
I need to get my hands on that Prescriptives concealer, ASAP! I’ve also heard great things about Teddy Eye Kohl too. Today I’m going to stop by the MAC counter and check it out, because I need to buy some Smolder liner.
Awww, too bad your muffins weren’t there that day.
I hope you are feeling better, though!
January 29th, 2008 at 8:47 am
Hi Holly,
I’m totes on board with the Sensodyne tooth paste. That’s on my list now, too.
I gotta get me some of those Chanel brushes, ahhhhh!
January 29th, 2008 at 8:49 am
Hi Tekoa,
GAP Jeans! So true. I’d probably just pass out if Blacktrack were ever discontinued…they’d need to revive me with smelling salts or have Christian Bale do some CPR on me, ha!
January 29th, 2008 at 8:51 am
Hi Melissa,
HA! I like Sevens too because the cut makes my booty look smaller (I’ve got a lot to spare). Have you tried Joes? There kind of 2003 but I still like ‘em.
I met the prez of Kryolan a few months ago at a beauty convention thing, LOL. We talked about HD makeup for a long time. The brand is kind of hard to find up here, though.
January 29th, 2008 at 8:53 am
Hi Jamie!
Gotta have the real deal Pop Tarts - nothing else will do!
January 29th, 2008 at 8:57 am
Hi Amanda,
I have seen it.
It’s a good one, I agree. I used to not really like war-themed movies until I watched Apocalypse Now a few years ago. I also read Tim O’ Brien’s book, “The Things They Carried,” and that changed how I felt about the genre, too.
Oh boy, I’d probably throw a fit if I couldn’t have coffee. I’d be one grumpy girl!
January 29th, 2008 at 9:00 am
LOL, Kristi,
Some of Jessica’s shoes are cute. I’ve seen a few pairs of boots that were pretty hot.
I *love* Dreyer’s Peppermint Ice Cream. It seems to be something you either love or hate, though…I’ve eaten it in front of many people and 99% of the time someone makes a comment about how gross it looks (like “Pepto Ice Cream” is just one of the creative adjectives I’ve heard). But dang, it’s heaven. I like Baskin Robin’s Peppermint too.
January 29th, 2008 at 9:01 am
Hey Megan!
Ditto ten times over on the chocolate. I’d probably go through withdrawal, with shakes and everything.
And I agree, Aveeno is some good sh*t.
January 29th, 2008 at 9:01 am
AshB! Girrrrl, you know I’d throw a fit if Woodwinked was taken away from me too!
January 29th, 2008 at 9:02 am
Hi Ashlee,
Love Spell is a good one. Oh, and after many months of lemming, I finally got my hands on a tube of the legendary Cover Girl Lash Blast!
January 29th, 2008 at 9:04 am
Hi Chamayne,
I hear ya on #7! I can’t live without my glass of Sangiovese.
I’ve read that Caudalie is a fab brand. There’s a spa north of me in Napa somewhere so I’m saving my pennies to go.
January 29th, 2008 at 9:06 am
Hi Mariana,
Sweet jeebus, I need to put ponytail holders on my list too. I swear I buy a pack every few months and they all disappear into this magical ponytail holder void (I suspect that all my missing sock pairs are there too).
January 29th, 2008 at 9:06 am
Ha! Holly, I’ve added half of everybody’s else’s stuff to my list too.
Next time I go to the UK I’m all over Topshop, LOL.
January 29th, 2008 at 9:07 am
Hi Mariana,
I used to love the Body Shop’s nut butter back in the day. I remember when the tubs were HUGE and when it was much cheaper. Mango was my fave.
January 29th, 2008 at 9:09 am
Breezy,
LOL, I’m making a trip to Target (Tar-ghay) for those Spanx. Thanks for the heads up!
L’Oreal Voluminous is one of my fave mascaras. I have multiple tubes all over the frickin’ place.
January 29th, 2008 at 9:09 am
Hi Mrs. Lynne,
OMG - RICE!!!! I’d go into convulsions if I couldn’t have any.
January 29th, 2008 at 9:11 am
Hi Brittany,
Ahhhh, Satin Taupe. That’s a good one. I’ve seen it on many different people and what constantly amazes me is how different it looks on everybody. My friend Chris wears it and I swear it looks like it was made just for her. You must be one of those lucky ones, too (I like it but I don’t love, it, because it just looks so-so on me.)
Shockingly I’ve never seen one episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Heard that it’s good, though!
January 29th, 2008 at 9:12 am
Hi LaurenIvy!
I’d cry if I couldn’t have VS Pink knickers, either.
I take it you are a Pistons fan!
January 29th, 2008 at 9:13 am
Hey Jen,
Okay, seriously, I need to get my mitts on some Avene!
I gotta have my 8-hour hand cream too…
January 29th, 2008 at 9:14 am
Hi Sandy,
One of these days I’ll get around to trying some Dior! Their lipglosses are too cute. So much makeup, so little time
I couldn’t live without milkshakes either, especially vanilla ones from In & Out Burger.
January 29th, 2008 at 9:16 am
Hi Renee!
I am a pen freak, too. I have drawers of them at work but can only function with my black Pentel RSVP Fine Point.
AND Velveeta MAC & CHEESE! I ate so much of that during my formative years. YUM!
January 29th, 2008 at 9:49 am
LOLZ I love these entries!
Yes, girl, I am a Pistons fan to the death! Matter fact, if they stopped airing the games or moved the franchise, I wouldn’t have a reason to live.
L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara might come with me in my coffin…
January 29th, 2008 at 10:04 am
Happy Tuesday, Karen!
Just gotta say, this is one of the best entries ever!! I’m getting so many great ideas for things to try from everyone’s freakout lists!
Thanks for further enabling my obsessions!
January 29th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
Hey Karen,
Joe’s don’t fit my 40 year old butt very well — but J Brand jeans do and I love them as much as Sevens!!! I also like Hudson — I guess my list should say “any ridiculously expensive jean with lycra!”
Kryolan is an industry brand and it is very hard to find — I have to haul my cookies up to Los Angeles to get it. If you happen to run into it though — pick some up — they make an incredible concealor.
January 29th, 2008 at 12:20 pm
Hi Karen,
I heard Topshop is coming to the u.s. soon but i think its just new york and its gonna be twice the price! I actually saw some of the Kate Moss for Topshop stuff in Barneys when i was there but it was soo expensive!
next time you hit the UK you have to tell me and i will give you a list of all the things you’ve got to try!
January 29th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Hi LaurenIvy,
That’s cool that you’ve got a team you love so much! I enjoy watching sports like basketball and football but I never really felt passionately about a team. I got the mascara gene, but missed the sports fan one.
Did you always like them, or was is something that was passed down to ya? Everyone I knew growing up here in the Bay loved the Warriors.
January 29th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
Hi Glosslizard!
Happy Tuesday back at ya!
A thought of bunch of things I’d freak out about last night: eyelash curlers (omfg! imagine a world without them!), socks, really soft Kleenex tissue…
January 29th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
Hi Melissa,
I’ve heard J Brand is good. I’ve also heard raves about True Religion, too. They look cute on other women but I’m afraid the pockets will add to my “girth”.
What else from Kryolan do you like? A hunting we will go…
January 29th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
Hi Holly,
Fo’ sho! I’ll also have to go to boots and do a massive buy out of all the bottles of Garnier Cocoon lotion I can get my paws on.
January 29th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Hey Karen! I love your blog, and read it almost every day. Some of my freakout items are:
sunscreen
Purity Made Simple cleanser
Glide dental floss
Certain-Dri antiperspirant
MAC Studio Fix powder foundation
Bare Escentuals Bisque concealer
Aveeno Ultra Calming moisturizer (both the night time moisturizer and the one with the sunscreen)
sunless tanner (just a touch so I’m not frog belly white in the summer)
hand cream with sunscreen
Frederick Fekkai glossing cream
Chick Fil-A handspun cookies n cream milkshakes (an occasional treat)
January 29th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
True Religion doesn’t fit me either
— oh well, there are plenty of other brands for me to spend big bucks on!!!
As far as Kryolan — they also make something called the Lip Rouge Mini-Palette. So many awesome colors in there! Not very convenient to throw into your bag, but for me as a make-up artist it is great. I can use several colors on several actors and throw one palette into my set bag for touch up. I also like their Shimmering Event Foundation to add some sparkle to the face for a night out! Yummy!
I always thought there was like a main Kryolan office up in San Fran, but maybe I am wrong!
January 29th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
lol @ TP! Indeed I’d totally freak out of they somehow ran out of Toilet Paper and discontinued making it! That’s not freak out material really it’s more like holy sh*t (no pun intended) it’s the end of the world material!
Hmmm it’s so difficult to make a list but here’s a try (in no particular order):
1. Tivo! My god I’d have to be committed if they suddenly stopped making tivo or stopped the service! God it doesn’t bear thinking about!
2. Peanut M&M’s especially the green ones (I dunno I heard the green ones have some special sexy power!)
3. MJ Mascara MY GOD It really bear thinking about. Just kill me if I can’t get my hands on Lash Extender!
4. Lush Cosmetics Gorgeous Moisturizer
5. Sony CP Lip Silicon
6. Morgen Schick Hide and Highlight Palette
7. Lola Blush in Mistress
8. Lush Cosmetics Big Shampoo and Retread Conditioner
9. Amazing Superfill Wrinkle Filler It appears I’m coming to rely on this alot lately. I wanna admit I’m getting old like a hole in my forehead.
10. Canmake Cheek Gradation in Chocolate Brown Praise Jebus it’s now part of the general catalog and no longer a one off!
Fun post Karen

Hi Karen,
I used to love that Garnier lotion but ive found something better now, not sure if you have it over there its by Dove and its called Firming beauty body lotion and it is amazing!
It leaves the skin really smooth and moisturises amazingly but also firms the skin. It has been all over TV over here because it actually works lol!
January 29th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
Oh, yeah, I’ve been known to head out in the pouring rain with a head cold if we run out of the extra soft tissue!!
January 29th, 2008 at 5:50 pm
Gotta go with
1 Toilet Paper
2 Toothbrushes
3 Sunscreen (because lobster look is not sexy)
4 Urban Decay Primer Potion
5 Chocolate
6 Coca Cola - gotta wash down the chocolate with something!
7 Books - always been a voracious reader
8 Music - nothing else takes one out of a mood like some good music
9 MAC - yeah, I’m sure no one saw that coming.
Fortunately, I think I’m pretty safe from suffering any “I can’t get what?” meltdowns.
January 29th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
hmmm.. This one is a doozy!
I’d have to say:
- MAC 266 brush, Coffee Eye Pencil, Beige-ing Shadestick (my MAC trifecta)

- Laughing Cow cheeses
- toothpaste
- computers
- Shu eyelash curler
- Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer

HI Hillary!
Thanks for reading le blog.
I’m glad you enjoy it. So I totes need to steal a few things from your list…first off, really need to get on that hand cream with sunscreen ASAP. I am not good about sunscreen on my hands and I know that I better get with the program. (Oh, and feet, too. I read somewhere that people forget to put sunscreen on their feet all the time.)
Anyway, do you have a favorite brand? I’ll need to find one that’s moisturizing and not greasy.
January 29th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
Hi Melissas,
Ha! There’s always a new “it” brand so I’m sure you’ll always have lots of choices. Sadly, I’ve gotten back in the habit of shopping in the junior’s section. Two years ago I made it a resolution to stop dressing like a teenage Hawaiian surfer and I was good about it for a year and then it all went to sh*t. I gotta sign my bad self up for one of those makeover shows on Lifetime (television for women!) or something.
Yeah, the corp office is here in SF. I tracked down a beauty store in Marin Co that carries a few items so I’m all over it this weekend like mac on cheese.
January 29th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
MUSE! Thank you for stopping by. Did you ever get your paws on the Paul & Joe for Disney stuff?
Anyway, yeah, I gotta put the TiVo on the list too. Remember how a few years ago how people said stuff like, “It’ll make your television watching more efficient”? Honestly, I don’t think that’s happened…I just watch a hellavu lot more TV. Bad, reality TV, unfortunately.
I think our Tivo is on it’s last legs and when it dies I’m going to shed a tear or two.
And holla, I need that Superfill Wrinkle filler, like yesterday.:)
January 29th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
Hi Holly!
I’m going to the drugstore tomorrow so I’m going to look for that lotion. Hopefully I can find it! You guys always get the good stuff across the pond, I swear.
January 29th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
I hear that Glosslizard. My nose needs the extra soft stuff! Personally I like the ones with added moisturizer.
January 29th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
Hi Kelly,
Coca Cola and books! My favorite combo. What are you reading right now?
January 29th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
Hi Lilan,
Holy cow, your comment just made me think of one thing that I’d throw a massive freak out over: THE INTERNET. Can you imagine? You wake up in the morning and there’s no internets?!?! HOLY FRICKIN CRAP.
Funny though, I grew up during the time when the equivalent of emailing and text messaging was leaving a note in your friend’s locker.
Hope you are having a good week so far!
January 29th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
OMG Karen, stop - I just can’t think about what would happen without the internet. Ack!
I remember back in high school, my boyfriend and I had a notebook we wrote each other notes in. He’d leave it in my locker in the AM for me to doodle and write in during 1st period math. Can’t imagine anyone doing that now - my 16 YO cousin texts me during his history class.. LOL
Hope you’re having a fun week too. I’m looking forward to tomorrow - it’s my birthday, woo hoo!! One more year of my 20s and then it’s off to start a new decade
January 29th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Hi Lilan,
Happy birthday! 29 is a great year! Doing anything fun?
That notebook story is so cute! I had a ton of notes from friends and boyfriends from high school…I kept them for the longest time. I have no idea where they went (probably into the same void as the missing socks and misc. tubes of lip products).
January 30th, 2008 at 1:32 am
Wow, convulsions, huh? I can say that you and the big boy would seize that moment together.
I’m thinking I’d also freakout if they were having a tweezer confiscation where the tweezer police would go door-to-door tearing homes apart just to get their paws on them. Oh gosh.. then unless the mad caterpillars! *shiver*
January 30th, 2008 at 4:01 am
Hi Karen,
wow on your desk too got shu curler? haha not bad..
Kate? yeah it is a pretty good brand, i haven’t really tried the product but its afforable and review from friends say its pretty good!
January 30th, 2008 at 11:15 am
The Boyfriend is taking me to Michael Mina in Union Square so I’m pretty excited. I just hope that the weather stays clear!
Happy Hump Day, Miss Karen!
January 30th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
Hey Karen! As far as hand cream with sunscreen goes, I’m currently using PreVentin-AT Therapeutic Hand Cream & Protectant with SPF 15. I think it’s like a generic version of StriVectin. It’s not greasy, but it’s pretty moisturizing. I got it at CVS. I can’t remember if y’all have those in Cali or not (I live in the South, probably pretty obvious from my use of “y’all”). If you can’t find that, I’ve used one called Rich Girl, I can’t remember who makes it, but I think I bought it at Bath & Body Works. And yes, I’ve realized lately that I’ve neglected my feet, and it’s starting to show. Ewww…nothing worse than thin-skinned old lady looking feet on a girl of only 32.
January 30th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
About two chapters into “Snow” by Orhan Pamuk. Nothing’s really happened yet, so I’m not sure how this one will pan out for me.
My coke product of late is Cherry Zero. It’s much better than the cough-syrup sweet regular Cherry Coke. I’m also obsessed with Diet Berries & Cream Dr Pepper lately. My two favorite diet sodas. Either of those with a 100 calorie Kudos bar kills my afternoon sweet tooth.
January 31st, 2008 at 9:09 pm
Hi Mrs. Lynne,
Yep, on board with that one too. If the beauty police removed any of my hair-removal staples (wax strips, hard wax, razors) I’d be one hairy beast.
Girl, I have to have rice practically every day. I was so NOT low carb when it was fashionable.
January 31st, 2008 at 9:10 pm
How fun, Lilan! Did you guys already go or are you heading there this weekend?
January 31st, 2008 at 9:12 pm
Hi Hillary,
Thank you so much for the recommendation! We don’t have CVS where I live but I have to buy some stuff from them online anyway (I keep hearing great stuff about Avene skin care, and I think CVS sells it) so I’ll try to find that hand cream.
The other day I looked at my feet and didn’t realize how, well, different they looked from how I remember. I wish I was better about putting sunscreen on them. All those hours in flip flops without any sun protection (*cringes*).
Whereabouts in the south are you from? I’ve never been, but I have a friend in Atlanta who is always trying to get me to go out there and visit.
January 31st, 2008 at 9:17 pm
Hiya Kelly,
So, when you have a book that starts off slowly that you’re not into, what do you do? I mostly end up abandoning it if it doesn’t hook me after a few chapters. My hub (an avid reader, too) gives me a hard time with this. I figure that life is short, why spend it reading a book you just aren’t feeling? Right now I’m going through a really intense teen novel phase. It’s a bit weird, but I’ve just decided to “go with it.”
I can’t hang with the Zero and Diet Cokes! I wish I could. I am really sensitive to Nutrasweet and it tastes off to my tastesbuds. I like regular Coke … in a bottle! I swear it tastes different then the stuff in the can.
January 31st, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Hi Ping,
Yeah, I’ve got a buncha curlers and they are all over the house. The Shu was a Christmas gift from my husband! Shockingly, I didn’t ask for it. He did it all on his own (miraculous, I tell ya.) Sometimes when I’m writing I need a break so I just curl my lashes for the hell of it, LOL.
If I ever take my world wide surf tour I’ll be sure to pick up some Kate and Paul & Joe when I hit the Asian Countries! Happy Friday!
January 31st, 2008 at 9:36 pm
How about brown rice? Have you tried that? I have heard great things of it, but just can’t get myself to try it. And my mom practically ate it ALL the time.
January 31st, 2008 at 9:59 pm
It’s okay. It tastes kinda, well, grainy and healthy. I know it’s technically better for ya, but I am not crazy about it.
One good for you grain is quinoa. Have you heard of it?
February 1st, 2008 at 5:17 am
Hey Karen! I live in Atlanta as well. You should definitely take your friend up on that offer and come visit. I think a lot of people have this image of ignorant, racist rednecks when they think of the south, but I’ve found that most people in Atlanta aren’t like that at all. We have friends from Cali that come and visit us, and they can’t get over how friendly people are here, and how good the food is.
Spring and fall are probably the best times to visit, it’s beautiful here! Take care, and have a great weekend!
February 1st, 2008 at 3:33 pm
Hey Karen!
We went to Michael Mina on Wednesday. Boy was it YUM-O!! Girl, I could eat the short ribs all day long and probably in my sleep
February 1st, 2008 at 3:40 pm
OH no, you had to go and quote crazy Rachel Ray!!! AHAHHHH! J/K
Sounds finger lickin’ good! Hope you had a wonderful birthday, Lilan!
February 2nd, 2008 at 3:04 pm
I have not, no. I can already tell it’s healthy, hah.
February 4th, 2008 at 4:18 am
I love you post! Hope you don’t mind, but I’m going to share it on mine. It’s hilarious!

Thanks Chic Girl! Have a good week
February 5th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
Mrs. Lynne,
Just stick the white rice then; seriously, the brown will taste like cardboard.
I had dinner at an Indian friend’s house on Saturday and I discovered my new favorite thing to do with rice: add white rice (w/ a lil’ bit of butter and salt) to plain yogurt (Mountain High is good). It’s sooooo good. I’ve been craving it 24/7 since then.
February 5th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Intersting… definitely different than our everyday dish. Almost sounds Mediterranean! They have yogurt with EVERYTHING. Hubbo and I went to eat out with a co-worker before at a Mediterranean restaurant and I couldn’t believe that the dipping sauce was yogurt. But it was soooo good. You know what I do love, is nan. it’s just like a warmed up pita wrapper, but it’s so good to snack on.
Now I’m hungry, lol. Will have to rummage through the pantry for something to fill the void.
February 5th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
I love naan (I think that’s how you spell it!), especially when it’s hot and fresh. I could probably eat Indian food every day if somebody would make it for me, ha!
I think I know which Mediterranean restaurant you’re talking about…there’s like, three on the island.
BTW, do you miss really good Mexican food? I would miss good burritos if we ever moved there fo’ reals.
February 6th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Gosh, when I used to live in the bay, one end of the El Camino was getting taken over by Indian stores and restaurants, while the other end was taken over by Korean stores and restaurants.
We actually haven’t tried any Mediterranean restaurants on the island. The one we went to was in Sunnyvale by the mall before.
OMG! We do miss Mexican food. Hubbo is a HUGE HUGE HUGE burrito fan. We tried a couple joints here but they’re just alright. Still haven’t found the right spot yet. The one we used to go to a lot was La Victorias in San Jose next to SJSU. The wait is kind of long, but so worth it. And I really liked the burritos at Chipotle even though that’s not true Mexican food, hah. Have you ever been to the Burrito Factory? They have this burrito there called the Super Mojado and it is ENORMOUS! Hubbo only finished it once and homeboy can eat so it was quite shocking.
You know what else I miss. Erik’s Deli. I loves me an Abbott’s Habit with Chicken Vegetable Rice soup. *drool* Oh girl. I have a list of restaurants that I miss. Ok, I’m rambling, lol.
February 6th, 2008 at 5:43 pm
Yeah, from what I recall there’s like three places on the island to get a burrito. I’ve eaten at Cholo’s in the north shore a few times but it was just okay. When you’re desperate for burritos it’ll do in a pinch.
I’m hungry, too, right now. I could go for a falafel or a kick ass gyro from the mall in San Rafael…
February 7th, 2008 at 2:19 am
Haven’t been to Cholo’s yet. We pass by it all the time when we get shaved ice but never stop. My old co-worker used to go there every weekend with her Hubbo. But I think they went to grab beers mostly.
Oh, Hubbo loves falafels. Have you tried the shrimp trucks here? Like Giovannis? Sooo damn good!!
