The gifts have been unwrapped, the guests have all gone home, and the house is finally quiet. Now I’m sitting here admiring the tree ? with my favorite gentleman tabby while sipping a cup of tea and listening to the crackling of the Netflix yule log ? on TV.
It was a good Christmas for Tabs. He seemed relieved when we left him in command of the house yesterday afternoon while we went to visit my parents in the East Bay. Honestly, I think he cherished the alone time, because when we got back home this morning and he saw that we brought back Connor, Tabs had a familiar look on his face that said, “Oh, I see you brought her back… Great.”
I think he hopes that we’ll come back one day and he’ll be an only child again, even though I keep explaining to him that she’s a permanent member of our ? ? family. “She’s your younger sister, Tabs,” I tell him, but he isn’t quite convinced.
He’s been very nice to her lately, though. I think it’s because he’s feeling the Christmas spirit. ?
It was another successful Christmas because 1) the tree remained standing (i.e. Tabs didn’t knock it over, again), and 2) I don’t think he drank the dirty water from the base of the tree. Or, he did drink the dirty water from the base of the tree, but he was better about hiding it.
Tabs hopes that you and your fur babies had a sweet Christmas. We’ll see you on the morrow, friend. Tonight, Tabs is going to fall asleep with a tummy filled with gravy, just as it should be on Christmas. 🙂

Merry Christmas Tabs! I got my cat 2 toy filled stockings, one from Target and one from Walmart and he is obsessed with those little tinsel balls! He loves to play fetch which is great exercise for him!

Poor Tabs! It’s hard for an older kitty to cope with an energetic toddler. All our furbabies are happy. Marya lost a frightening amount of weight after getting her teeth stuck on the bars of her cage (that has since been replaced with a cage with no bars); she went from two and a half ounces down to one and a quarter ounces, which is shockingly tiny even for a dwarf hamster. Her personality even changed — she started wanting to cuddle and snuggle with me after eating her morning yogurt, instead of peeing on me and biting me (she is a challenging little pet). So I started keeping soft food that she likes available in her cage for her all day long (she especially loves any combination of pasta and cheese), changing it twice a day, and she’s regained five grams, given up the cuddling and snuggling and gone back to marking me as her territory with the peeing, so I know she’s getting better. Since she can’t climb cage bars for exercise any more, we’ve started to let her run around in a hamster ball (taped shut with masking tape, since those things tend to pop open, letting the hamster loose), and she’s really taken to that, constantly getting under my son’s feet while he’s cooking (she adores him, never bites him or pees on him, of course!). I was afraid we were going to lose her very soon, but I’m more hopeful now 🙂
Tabs will grow to lovingly tolerate Connor Claire. My three cats and one pug feel that same way about my daughters, and my girls are 11 and 14. Lol!!!
Tabs is clearly adjusting! Step by step, he’ll get there.
Our hound only drinks from the Christmas tree stand. We figure he likes the piney taste… maybe reminds him of the grass he eats in the spring?! Never seems to bother him so we let him go for it!!

Today a sexy tabby went right past my door . I ran out and she disappeared! She had a pretty pink bow on her ; I hope she’s not lost .

Oh, that cat stocking is so cute! My poor cat hasn’t been given presents the last few years, but this year I presented him a catnip filled ball with “Simon’s cat” on it. He likes it!
