I may or may not need someone to pour a bucket of relaxing lavender-scented lotion on me if/when I watch some of the movies on my summer watch list.
LIKE THIS ONE:
First time I tried, I couldn’t make it through the trailer! I read about it in Entertainment Weekly, and apparently when it was screened at some film festivals this year, people left the theater screaming and crying!
It comes out June 8th — the day before my b-day (GEMINI IN THE HOUSE!).
Yup, my movie wish list is already about a mile long because El Hub and I only go every few months, which is probably just as well since I’m the person who has to take a cat nap now in the middle of a movie. It’s happened in every movie we’ve gone to since Connor was born. Put me in a dark room, and BAM! — I’m asleep. ?
Granted, I don’t think that will happen if we go see Hereditary (don’t you just love Toni Collette?).
It looks scary as FRACK.
I also want to see…
My buddy Suz in the comments mentioned Annihilation the other day, and it looks nice and intense. It stars Natalie Portman, and I see it available on iTunes to rent. I think we’ll watch that this weekend.
And, of course, there’s Crazy Rich Asians…
I mostly want to watch it for Constance Wu because I love her in Fresh Off the Boat. She’s hilarious on that show — totally reminds me of my Asian tiger mom in the ’80s and ’90s. Hopefully I can read the book before seeing the film!
How about you? Have you seen any good movies lately? What’s on your watch list?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

“A Quiet Place” was pretty intense, but good. “Deadpool 2” had some laughs. We go almost every week because on Tuesdays it’s only $5. I’ll have to check out that Hereditary movie!
Karen says
Hi Rachel,
My hubs has been wanting to watch A Quiet Place. At this point I’ll wait for it to come out on iTunes because I think it’s been out in for a while, yeah?
I am still shook from that trailer!
Rachel says
Yeah it should be on DVD (or whatever platform you use for movies!) soon. I would also like to rent Black Panther because I didn’t get to that when it was in theaters.

I never see movies in a timely manner! However! Did you score your copy of Crazy Rich Asians yet? I feel like I saw it on the discounted books rack at B&N. I meant to grab a copy but got distracted. Must go back!

I’ve read all three books in the Crazy Rich Asians series and can hardly wait for the movie to come out. The books were absolutely laugh out loud funny and I really came to love so many of the characters. My husband thought I was a total loon sitting in the living room, Kindle in hand, laughing to myself.

Sad to say I don’t think I have. We just rented Game Night–with Justin Bateman and Rachael McAdams, which I was dying to see and I was pretty disappointed with it. I thought the plot was a little thin. I usually love those two but not their best work.
The last really, really, really great movie I saw was Get Out. It was so good I watched it twice and I would willingly watch it again. Best movie of this century I think.

The last movie I saw in the theater was Deadpool 2. I loved the first one and this one was hilarious too. I generally like all the Marvel superhero movies and I recently rented Black Panther.
And this is totally random, but I got sucked into watching this old movie with Christina Applegate called Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead. It came out in 1991 and I think I actually watched it in the theater. It was a fun blast from the past.
Hereditary looks super creepy!
Rachel says
“Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead” was one of my favorites growing up! I had it on tape and watched it constantly!

We just started watching Annihilation last night and it’s surprisingly good. Saw Game Night in the theatre and if you like Four Christmases or Couple’s Retreat, you will like it. Saw Book Club with the BFF when it came out 2 weeks ago – totally fun and how hot is Don Johnson now that he’s older:). So excited for summer movies! Hoping Ocean’s 8 gets decent reviews since it’s out on my birthday (yeah- Geminis!) and the previews looked good. Hubby and I are all about the summer sequels – Jurassic Park and MI 6.

Happy Thursday! It’s so discouraging how far behind I am on movies. We finally went to see Avengers Infinity War on the last day it was in our theater (I love all the Marvel movies but didn’t care for that one). The boys didn’t even go with us. I really wanted to see DP2 but we’re running out of time on that and we haven’t seen Solo yet. These are all movies that we’d normally go to on opening night. It’s just been too busy. 🙁 On the upside, I guess I get to watch a lot of them for “free” instead when they hit Netflix or HBO. HAHA! I’m also ashamed to say that I think I’m months behind on EW so I’m not even sure what’s coming up. I recently saw the Rock version of Jumanji. I thought it was cute, but very much like an After School Special (which is fine and kids could use more of that). 🙂

About the early 2000’s I went on a band trip to NYC and saw Wild Party ?
Starting Toni Collette , Eartha Kitt and Mandy Potamkin .
Toni Collete unexpectedly took off her top and Mandy P snubbed the kids ! Eartha was a charm !
But I do want to see Heriditary and Annihation !
Love Horror !

Crazy Rich Asians:
I read it when it came out, very funny, 2nd book was not as, but would like to see the movie.
Isabella says
now I have to see it, they are playing Mahj in the trailer 🙂
not American Mahj, but it’s Mahj

Love Toni C. Did you ever watch her in Muriel’s Wedding? Totally recommend. I saw and loved Annihilation (twice). Of the peeps I went with, one liked it, one wasn’t sure, and one hated it. I saw DP2 this past weekend. I laughed so hard it hurt. Lots of inside humor. Recommend but definitely not around tiny super baby ears. ?

From what I’ve heard from the press tour for Crazy Rich Asians, the movie has a totally different plot line from the book with the same name. So maybe not necessary to read the book before the movie, as much as it just killed me to say that.
Saw I Feel pretty and Life of the Party and loved them both!

I saw RBG, the documentary about Ruth Bader Ginsberg with my daughter and Dead Pool 2 with Dear Hubs. I think we have tickets to see “Solo” this weekend.
My daughter read all the books in the Crazy Rich Asian series. I could barely make it through the first one. I think the movie will be more my speed.

I feel like I’ve been to so many movies lately! Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Deadpool 2, and Solo! I liked them all!

Put me down for Crazy Rich Asians! My husband got a copy of Game Night and I’m about to watch that one. I rarely go to the movies since I also had that problem where I fall asleep in the middle of it. It started when I was pregnant with my first child and I dozed off while watching Pirates of the Carribean (whichever one was showing in 2016). Nice to know I’m not the only one like that! 😉

Ooh, I forgot about Hereditary. We have horror movie night almost every Thursday with two of our friends. We watch a lot of old B-movies with a sprinkle of current films mixed in. We watched Winchester last Thursday. It was okay. It’s a jump scare movie. Sometimes we venture out to the theater for the night. Hereditary is one that we will definitely see. A Quiet Place is very well done. I think you will like it.
Tully is the last film that I saw in the theater. I enjoyed it. We have Movie Pass and had been going quite a bit, but we have been too busy the past few weeks. Deadpool 2 may be one for this weekend.

“Isle of Dogs” is unique, especially if you’re not mainstream.

Hi Karen, I can’t recommend Annihilation, thought it was silly and just not entertaining. I love action, but this for me was not good.
I liked Overboard, which was surprising. It had some very funny scenes, and I laughed out loud.
I also liked Breakng In. Just saw the Solo Star Wars movie, and it was ok, not great, but then I don’t really like space-type movies.

I want to see Crazy Rich Asians, but other than that I haven´t watched anything amazing lately. I mean, I watched THOR Ragnarök, but that was kind of meh.
