So…what is the Monday Poll?
Good question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll. It’s just a list of five more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past gazillion years (more than 10!). I love reading your answers, and it helps me get my week off to a great start. ?
1. Best music festival?
It’s been years! Actually, now that I think about it, I don’t know if I’ve ever been to one? I vaguely recall wanting to go to Lilith Fair in the late ’90s but not going, and then somehow ending up with a reusable Starbucks cup that said “Lilith Fair” on it. So I’m gonna say Lilith Fair.
I’ve never been, but I’ve heard good things about BottleRock in Napa, which isn’t too far from my house. Bruno Mars was at the last one.
2. _____ has leading man hair.
Mr. Big from Sex and the City. I re-watched the first movie a couple days ago, and he’s the first well-haired person who popped into my mind.
That reminds me, I just finished marathoning the best show! It’s called The Bold Type, and I found it in Entertainment Weekly. It’s about three 20-something millennial women who work in the magazine industry in New York, and I really, really like that the show isn’t afraid to let them fail. The characters are also generally pretty likable. It’s like Sex and the City in a way, but I think the girls seem nicer.
3. Favorite accent?
If we’re talking about speaking accents, I wouldn’t mind having an English accent. If I could sound like a royal, that would be cool.
If, however, we’re talking home accents, I do like throw pillows for my couch. 🙂
4. I wish I had a robot that would…
Do everything I didn’t want to do, like pick up Connor’s toys at the end of the day, and if it could also cook every single meal for me and watch Connor for a couple hours every once in a while to give me a break, that would be great!
5. Which has been causing you the most drama lately — makeup, skin or hair?
My skin. I mean, I haven’t been breaking out or anything like that, but I’ve been staying up late playing with my phone, which I know I shouldn’t be doing, and reading books from the library, so my dark circles are darker than usual.
~ The best Chinese food ~
(Yes, I’m hungry right now.) Up here in the North Bay, the options are kinda limited, but I’m not picky when it comes to Chinese food. I like almost everything (lately, especially Jenny Low’s!).
I will say that I think a lot of the Chinese food around here tastes a little bland, for lack of a better word. I can’t explain it, but it doesn’t taste like I remember Chinese food tasted when I would go to Cindy’s house in high school and her grandma would make us stir fry. There was just so much flavor! And I don’t remember having anything like lemon chicken.
Have an amazing week, babe! I hope you also have some yummy Chinese food. Talk to you soon.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Here are the questions for you to copy and paste with your answers in a comment:

2. _____ has leading man hair.
3. Favorite accent?
4. I wish I had a robot that would…
5. Which has been causing you the most drama lately — makeup, skin or hair?
Rachel says
1. Best music festival?
The first year they had Outside Lands in San Francisco, I went. It was fun because it wasn’t too crowded at that point. I’ve been to Coachella as well, but it was almost too much. Lots of good bands though.
2. _____ has leading man hair.
Jake Gyllenhaal is my all around guy crush right now, and his hair is pretty good!
3. Favorite accent?
My cousin married an Irish guy and I really like his accent.
4. I wish I had a robot that would…
Cook healthy meals and clean, and weed the yard!
5. Which has been causing you the most drama lately — makeup, skin or hair?
My hair is hating the humidity and my skin doesn’t like the hot temps!
Jennifer says
1. Best music festival? I’m a bit out of the music festival demographic. I too wanted to go to Lilith Fair in the 90’s but never did.
2. Al Pacino has leading man hair.
3. Favorite accent? Southern for sure. I’m putty when it comes to a man with a southern accent.
4. I wish I had a robot that would…scrub my fridge inside and out. I’ve got a stainless steel number that looks great but we’ve got such a salty, damp environment on the Maine coast that I’m Constantly scrubbing it with baking soda.
5. Which has been causing you the most drama lately — makeup, skin or hair? Skin. I’m having a blackhead problem at the very top of my cheekbones near my temples. Usually a regular regime of Sunday Riley’s Good Genes knocks it out but not this time. Not these blackheads. I probably need to have a facial.
Love the pic of you and miss Connor Claire. Too cute.
Also thanks for the show recommendation. I keep seeing that Bold Type on my Hulu feed and wondering if I should click on it. Now I will!
Eileen says
1. Best music festival? Woodstock! Peace, love, flower power! LOL
2. _____ has leading man hair. So long as it is not below the shoulders or in a man bun, I’m good with just about anything including no hair at all.
3. Favorite accent? Foreign: French US: A classic Southern, y’all.
4. I wish I had a robot that would…Take the waste wheelers out for trash collection and then bring them back in. We have one for trash, one for recycling, and two for green waste (we live an 2 acres). It’s a chore.
5. Which has been causing you the most drama lately — makeup, skin or hair? My hair. I had to take a medication which resulted in significant hair thinning. My hair is all growing back but that means I have a gazillion little hairs (and bless each and every one!) poking up all over the place. In another couple months they should be long enough to blend in.
Savannah says
1. Best music festival?
-I’ve actually never seen a musician/band live, but if I ever would I’d go to see this band called Nothing But Thieves. The lead singer has a voice like an angel. They’re good stuff!!
2. _____ has leading man hair.
-huh. I honestly don’t know lol
3. Favorite accent?
-ooh, I love Irish and Scottish accents but an English accent is also quite cool.
4. I wish I had a robot that would…
-work my crappy retail job for me so my feet don’t always hurt.
5. Which has been causing you the most drama lately — makeup, skin or hair?
-well, let’s say all three aren’t operating at their optimal best but I’ll go with mah hurr. I had to cancel my hair cut last month because I hurt my foot and couldn’t walk. I have an appointment in a few days and thank goodness! It has no shape and it’s just blah. Needs to be attacked with scissors.
Kim says
Happy Monday!
1. Best music festival? I’ve never been to one! I’m not big on concerts. Or crowds. Or being outside in the dirt. HAHA!
2. _____ has leading man hair. My very handsome husband, who I always say looks like a movie star (and we still have acquaintances who talk about his awesome hair). 🙂 For an actual leading man, I’m going old school with Gregory Peck.
3. Favorite accent? British. In my house, you’d think it was a toss up between dust and cat hair. 😉
4. I wish I had a robot that would… CLEAN and do all our home repairs/projects.
5. Which has been causing you the most drama lately — makeup, skin or hair? Skin, because we’ve had several warm and very sunny days. I feel like I’m burning, even though I’m very cautious about sunscreen and being in the shade. I would guess it’s the higher dose of Retinol.
Syah says
1. Best music festival? I have never gone to a music festival…BUT I do want to. At some point…though how do I swing that with a new baby?!
2. _____ has leading man hair. I like wavy locks on men but no one comes to mind at the moment…
3. Favorite accent? Hm…I don’t have one. A French accent is fun 🙂
4. I wish I had a robot that would…do my hair for me. cook my meals for me. clean my house for me!
5. Which has been causing you the most drama lately — makeup, skin or hair? Hair! Postpartum hair loss is real!
kellly says
I’m only going to start with question 3, and for me, it’s undoubtedly SCOTTISH, preferably Highlands. Runner up, Irish.
4. For me, a robot would definitely cook and clean up after. Oh, and maybe let my dogs in and out after about the 10th time I’ve done it!
5, My hair. I’m growing it out some and it gets to stages where it’s so awkward and takes a lot of work to get it to look halfway civilized. Sometimes I backtrack and chop some of it off. I want to see how it looks when it’s about chin-length, if I/it survive the growing process that long!
LindaLibraLoca says

Tony Stark in Iron Man.
3. Favorite accent?
I second “Queens English”.
4. I wish I had a robot that would…

2. _____ has leading man hair. Ryan Reynolds
3. Favorite accent? british
4. I wish I had a robot that would… give me money
5. Which has been causing you the most drama lately — makeup, skin or hair? hair and eyebrows
Karen says
GENIUS answer to number 4. I wouldn’t mind that robot AT ALL!
Stephanie Smith says
1. Best music festival? I’m not big on crowds and suuuuuper loud music that you can’t really understand, and music festivals seem to be more about being seen than the music itself. Kinda sad.
2. _____ has leading man hair. Keanu Reeves, because he looks good with it long, buzzed, short. It’s different for every role. Plus, you know, the sexiness.
3. Favorite accent? A heavy South American accent, those rolled ‘r’s’ are awesome! My kids’ pediatrician has a heavy heavy South American accent, I can understand him but it takes a second and a half to compute. I love it.
4. I wish I had a robot that would…do laundry! Take it out of the dryer, fold it, and put it away. Right now I’m looking at a basket that needs to be folded, and a couple of piles that need to be put away. Laundry is the bane of my existence.
5. Which has been causing you the most drama lately — makeup, skin or hair? Hmmmm, hair I think. But I’ve been neglecting it. I’ll go swimming and not wash the chlorine out for a couple of days, sheer laziness on my part. And I haven’t done a deep conditioning treatment in a while. I’ll just roll it up into a clip or braid it and not think about it. I should knock that off. And go wash it. Right now.
Karen says
In another parallel universe I’m Mrs. Keanu Reeves. 🙂
Nicole - paleandfreckled says
1. Best music festival?
I went to Lollapalooza and Ozzfest in Phoenix in the 90s. It was miserably hot (hello no shade summer in Arizona?!). Those I think were my only festival experiences but I don’t remember much of anything.
2. _____ has leading man hair.
First person that came to mind is Bradley Cooper. I don’t know if it’s leading man material but I like that wavy longish flow situation he sometimes sports.
3. Favorite accent?
Knew someone that had a painfully endearing accent that was from Austria.
4. I wish I had a robot that would…
Cook dinner, put away laundry, babysit occasionally.. I could go on. 🙂
5. Which has been causing you the most drama lately — makeup, skin or hair?
Makeup, I’d say. My skin drastically got oilier post-pregnancy (back to normal really) plus I feel like I’m always struggling to get my brows exactly how I want them.
Karen says
Remember when he was in Alias with Jennifer Garner? Please tell me you watched that show!
Michele DiCola says
Never been to a music festival like Coachella or even Woodstock . But we saw Philly Pops do Sinatra at the Kimmel Center . Seats and acoustics were perfect !
Gonna go w Elvis ?? Hair in that one ! Everyone else came after .

Hair drama everyday although it is growing .

Kate & Bree says
1. Best music festival?
I’ve never been to one! They are very loud and crowded and I get hives thinking about it!
2. _____ has leading man hair.
Oh, I can’t think of his name. On Netflix, there is this show called The Time In Between (it’s a Spanish mini-drama), there’s this one guy named Ramiro (that’s the character) who is maybe around for five episodes. Holy mother of mercy….just…just look him up. Hair and body. That’s all I have to say.
3. Favorite accent?
I get a bit weak for a British accent.
4. I wish I had a robot that would…
Give me money. Money, money, money. Wealth may not make you happy, but it can buy you a horse. And, uh, horses always make a person happy. Happiness has a smell, okay? It’s the smell of a barn full of horses.
5. Which has been causing you the most drama lately — makeup, skin or hair?
My skin hasn’t been that bad (although it has been a bit zit-prone thanks to stress and weather), but my hair. In January, I got really sick with a bilateral ear infection and sinus infection that caused my lupus to flare which caused my hair to fall out and it didn’t help to know my allergy to silicones had spread to my scalp, so I’m still dealing with the after effects (I didn’t realize my allergy until April). My hair really isn’t growing back in those areas I lost hair and I don’t see the dermatologist until September. It’s just bugging me. I need it cut since I last got it cut in March and it’s looking skinny on the ends.
I had my show on Friday and I did good! I got third out of fourth. I was really happy with my ride, even if the judge was not going to tell me what to improve on. I hate judges like that. Keep on swimming, right?
Karen says
Yes, keep on keepin’ on. Congratulations on your ride!
Suzanne C says
1. Best music festival?
When I was about 25 or so, there was a big country festival with a lot of now-huge names like Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, etc. You would pay an absolute fortune just to see one or two of them in concert now. It was an all day thing that ended with the King, George Strait. So, so, so amazing.
2. _____ has leading man hair.
George Clooney. I like the salt & pepper look. How does he just keep looking better and better?
3. Favorite accent?
English.
4. I wish I had a robot that would…
Vacuum the floor. With the daily summer afternoon rains, our hardwood floors are constantly covered with dirt.
5. Which has been causing you the most drama lately — makeup, skin or hair?
Makeup. Not to beat a dead horse, but again I reference summer. I’m starting to not even bother putting on eye makeup anymore unless it’s a major outing. It all just melts down under my eyes after a couple of hours.
Karen says
That sounds like an amazing line-up Suzanne! You were so lucky to go.
Regarding summer rain. I’ve never lived anywhere that rained in the summer. Hopefully it cools everything off?!
Jaclyn Levy says
1. The one I attend. With two young boys at home it’s hard to get out to enjoy live music! I’d be happy at a high school music festival
2. Chris Hemsworth has leading man hair. He looks good with any ‘do. ?
3. Australian!
4. I wish I had a robot that would… I’m leary of the impending robot takeover so I’m going to pass on this one! ?
5. Which has been causing you the most drama lately — makeup, skin or hair? All are under control right now but I’ll go with hair. I need a trim!
Karen says
LOL, Jaclyn! I’d be happy with any sort of live music, too!
Tatiana says
1. Best music festival? No idea, I’ve never been to one. Dear Daughter’s been to Austin City Limits, Outside Lands and Bottle Rock. I’ll have to ask her which one she liked the best.
2. _____ has leading man hair. Grégory Fitoussi. Makes me want to learn more French, just to watch movies he’s in.
3. Favorite accent? Français bien sûr
4. I wish I had a robot that would… clean my house. Do the hand dishes that can’t go in the dishwasher, dust, vacuum, scrub the shower, toilets.
5. Which has been causing you the most drama lately — makeup, skin or hair? Hair. It’s been getting thinner and sparser and I don’t like seeing my scalp. Ugh.
Karen says
I talked to my friend who does my hair (she’s a master stylist and has been doing hair for a long time) and she said that the things that she’s seen that make a significant difference on thinning hair are 1) Viviscal and 2) Propecia. I haven’t tried Viviscal but a couple of people I know who work in beauty swear by it.
Tatiana says
Thanks, I’ll check out both of these.
Jessica says
1. Best music festival? Bottlerock- the lineups haven’t failed me. Plenty of seating and shade areas. Parking is available. And FOOD FOOD FOOD!
2. _____ has leading man hair. That’s a good question. I tend to not go for the long-haired. But what DO I like?
3. Favorite accent? British. I feel like I should choose something more uncommon like South African or New Zealand.
4. I wish I had a robot that would… Clean my house for me!
5. Which has been causing you the most drama lately — makeup, skin or hair? Hair! It’s been 3x bleached so I could have purple hair. So it’s dry!
Karen says
Ahh, purple hair is gonna be fun! Get ready to take cold showers though.
Erin says
1. Best music festival?
I never went to Lillith faire but I would have loved to go. I’ve never been to one so I can’t say.
2. _____ has leading man hair.
Jonathan Van Ness! Smash the traditional idea of leading man and bring in Blanche!
3. Favorite accent?
Hard to say as I haven’t heard them all! For now it’s probably a toss up between Dubliner or Edinburgh!
4. I wish I had a robot that would…
Do all the cooking and cleaning!
5. Which has been causing you the most drama lately — makeup, skin or hair?
I’ve been really lazy on all fronts but everything is mostly behaving. Probably skin because lady time!
