Do You Wear Makeup When You’re Chillin’ at Home?

April 23rd, 2009 by Karen 79 Comments

Smashbox Untamed Collection

While I was at the MAC counter today checking out the new A Rose Romance collection, I overheard a girl say that she loves makeup so much that she does a full face just to chill at home.

I started wondering how many of us beauty junkies do the same thing. 🙂

If I’m at home and know I’m not leaving the house, I’ll usually do a bare minimum of makeup so that I can bear to look at myself in the mirror — concealer, brows and mascara. That’s about it, though, unless I’m playing with makeup for fun.

Do you like to wear makeup when you’re just relaxing at home? If you do, do you do a full face or stick to a few basics?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

hey karen! I spy products from Smashbox’s Untamed summer collection – will you be doing a review on that? I’m dying to know how the eyeshadow liners are! Thanks in advance!

I don’t put on makeup unless I’m leaving the house. haha – am really terrified of clogging my pours (I’ve combi-oily skin)so I try to stay off the makeup whenever I can. I’ve some friends who, like you, do the bare minimum – at least mascara – and I really admire that! I’m just a little too lazy =p

When I’m at home its just a moisturizer and eye cream but whenever I’m doing major cleaning and know I’ll be at it for at least a couple of hours…I dress up with a pretty red lipstick, get my hair up, some bronzer all over, finally a hair band…and I’m ready to clean everything !

I tend to do a full face every day just as part of my morning routine, I think it helps me mentally prepare for the day, especially if it’s gonna be a long tough one. If I’m running late in the morning, powder, blush and mascara are musts for me. I only don’t wear makeup when I’m working out, or if I wake up really late in the day and end up not taking a shower ’till the next morning. Then I know for SURE I’m not going out, lol…

usually I don’t have anything on, just moisturize if i need it, lip balm if my lips are chapped etc…

but at night if I’ve got insomnia or if I’m just in the mood… I put on full blown night-out makeup just for practice/fun!

but then I’m sad when no one’s around to see it haha. Sometimes I take a picture 🙂

I always do my skincare routine (antioxidant serum, moisturizer and sunscreen) no matter what! I’ll usually do a light look (something light like MAC paint pot in Painterly on the lids with mascara and lipgloss), but then if I get bored as the day goes on I’ll play! I sometimes end a day at home with a full smoky eye, contoured cheeks and siren red lips just because I can! LOL!

I usually do the bare minimum so I don’t shriek at the 12 year old boy looking back in the mirror if I pass by hahaha. I will do eye wrinkle cream (ALWAYS), facial lotion w/SPF if I ma on being outside at all, concealer, eyebrows, blush and mascara.

Hi Karen, I hardly ever do my makeup when I know I’m just staying home. However, it changes if I know the husband is going to be around the house with me. Then I at least have to curl my eyelashes and wear mascara. I will admit to wearing more makeup around the house lately though because I’m trying out some new looks and new colors. But I only wear foundation for the super important days.

Usually however i use a lil blush (i can look a lil ghost like without it) and a lip balm (tinted sometimes)…IF my skin is not looking so great i wear foundation to avoid picking at it. Also i know some ppl can not start their day without taking a shower makeup is that step and need for me 🙂 interesting enough I go bare face around my fiance when we r together more than I do when I am alone hahaha…

Good question 🙂 Unless, I was experimenting with looks I wouldn’t be wearing much/if any makeup at home. The makeup I wear while experimenting is usually lip colors and eye stuff. I do sometimes wear moisturizer while inside, but it confuses me. My moisturizer has SPF 30, and I don’t know if I need it every day especially if I don’t go out. I wish I knew if the sun’s rays come through enough for me to justify wearing the SPF 30 indoors. Sometimes my skin’s natural oils are moisturizing enough in regard to the moisturization aspect alone. If my eyes look and feel really bleh and dry, I might use some eye drops and then use Dove Pro Age SPF 8 eye cream. That one has a really low SPF that I can justify with myself using indoors. Oh and lip balm, I definitely use a lot of that indoors: Rosebud Salve and Nivea Rejuvenation SPF 4.

Hm, if I am in a real chilly mood, I don´t. I feel very comfortable without MU. But I do a full face with a creative eye makeup on weekends only – just for fun and enjoy after a busy week to use my brushes without planning going out or leave the house.

I agree with Catherine (post 7). I also put on makeup every morning to mentally prepare myself for the day, even when I know I won’t be leaving the house. It helps me focus, and allows me a little bit of artistic expression to get my creative muscles exercised. I also find the before and after entertaining. On the other hand, occasionally I will try the no mascara look when going out, but I don’t think I have skipped blush since the day I discovered it.

When I’m at home, I don’t wear a trace of makeup. I just have my moisturizer and eye cream. Even when I go to the local grocery store or run errands to the post office, I don’t wear any makeup at all. But when I do wear makeup, I do a full face (eyeshadow, primer, brows, mascara, blush, highlighter, etc) with tinted moisturizer or Armani’s second skin.

I usually save the weekends for experiments. A daring look that I can’t wear for work for example. But I do put on make-up even if I’m going for the natural look. Putting on make-up is such a part of my morning routine that it’s hard to stop for two days out of the week. Also, putting on make-up makes me feel more finished.

When at home, I do like to put on the bare minimum just so that I, personally, don’t have to see my imperfections. However, if it’s a day where I’m not too busy around the house, I will scoot into the bathroom & practice some looks. Try to do things that are new for me & that I normally wouldn’t wear to see if I can pull it off for work the next week. It’s my experimental time. So obviously after I’m done playing, I rock the look around the house until day’s end.

I wear a bare minimum out of the house every day: light foundation, bronzer, light eyeshadow, brows and lashes… That’s the general extent of my makeup. If I’m not leaving the house I don’t put any on! I just avoid the mirror all day!

I am using the loose Prep + Prime powder. I love it! It goes over my liquid foundation and locks it for the day. For me, it is amazing. Yesterday was 93deg, and my makeup stayed. The MA I spoke with had much darker skin than I, and she wears it to set her makeup too. It does not finish white, very translucent. This is a must have in my arsenal.

      Hi Selena,

I love it it. I reviewed it a few weeks ago and was quite blown away by it! 🙂 I like it much more than MAC Invisible Set.

Regarding my post about not wearing night cream one day a week, I read this article about Catherine Deneuve and she said she does not wear night cream one day a week so that your skin can build it’s own natural collagen.
I give myself a facial on saturday morning, then rest it wothout make-up. That night no night cream. I also swear by Biore’ black head cleansers. Do not use a store brand. They get gummy. Only use the Biore. They really work!

Hey Karen and fellow beauty addicts,
How is your Wednesday so far?? Mine is okay, just a bit tired. My fiancés grandmother passed away last Sunday so I am still trying to get back into work mode.
Now back to makeup and as much as I love make up and I love to play with it, I am not normally wearing makeup on the weekends!!! I have to wear a full face Monday –Friday for work and I like to give my face a break on the time I do not have to go to work, . Unless I am going out somewhere nice, or having some fun with my makeup I don’t have it on my face, on my days off. I go out running errands and go all over the place without it on. I probably shouldn’t with my skin, but oh well. When I was in high school I wouldn’t even walk out of my room without makeup, LOL. Growing up causes you to not care as much. LOL.

Wow, sorry I feel a bit scatter brained this week. I guess because this will be my first full week of work since 3 weeks ago. That can’t be good. I hope you have a fab week!!

      Hi Bobbie Sue,

My Wednesday is going great — thanks for asking. I actually got decent sleep last night, and I feel surprisingly cognizant. 🙂

Why were you off of work? Were you on vacation?

I was trying to copy & paste the new Mary Kay Mineral Eye palette. It is called coastal colors. There are three colors that are beautiful! But it wouldnot work. I’ll keep trying,

    Hi Karen,
Thats awesome, I wish I did. LOL.

Well first it was Good Friday and we get that day off of work. The next week we got out early on Friday for some reason and last week my Fiance’s grandmother passed away so we went to Dallas for her funeral, so I was out Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Then on that Friday we got out at 12:00 due to “Fiesta” which is a San Antonio wide festival. Now I just have to get back into to routine!! 🙂
It has just been an interesting month. I’m extremly happy to hear that your MIL is doing well and was given a clean bill of health, that is the most important thing, our health. Congratz on the great news!!

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my two-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my cat (Tabs).
