Ooh they’re beautiful! Sometimes keeping them in a vase of cold/iced water helps prolong the life if its warm :)

Your irises only last three days, Karen? Wow. I can usually keep an iris bouquet alive for two weeks. Have you tried keeping them in luke warm water and not cold water? I keep all my bouquets (when I get them, of course) in lukewarm or slightly warmer water and away from sunlight really and it works like a charm. It keeps daisies alive for a month.

This is, of course, coming from someone who hasn’t a shred of gardener genes. I’m notorious for killing plants. Okay, I lie. I can manage to keep bamboo alive. I fear my 3-year-old bonsai is dead though. I seem to have a knack for keeping bouquets alive. Isn’t that strange? I can keep cut flowers alive for a month (rarely more) yet I can’t keep a potted plant or flower alive? I need to work on my bonsai and see if I can’t save it. Maybe it needs some sunlight? I have no idea!

      Hi Kate & Zena,

I’ve had them for longer… this particular bouquet went really fast.

Bamboo is really pretty if you can keep it in a pot and not let it get out of control. I haven’t had a bonsai but my dad has a few and they always seem to do better in the shade…

      Hi Michelle!

It’s been a while. :) It was a really nice birthday and I enjoyed every minute of it. How have you been? Is work going okay?

  10. Kate & Zena says:

I’ve been keeping my bonsai in the shade like always. It, just, seems to be dying. I’m hoping it’ll bounce back.

      Hi Kate & Zena,

Hmm, maybe it’s a question of watering. How often are you doing it? Sometimes adjusting your plant’s water schedule can make a world of difference, because some like to dry out first.

  11. Kate & Zena says:

I’ve been watering it once a week. I’m thinking it’s dying from the weather here. By now we’re in the high 70s, 80s and possibly low 90s and it’s a little drier (good ol’ Midwest summer). It’s been humid, rainy and cool here all season (low 60s, mid 70s, rarely high 70s and low 80s). It’s truly bizarre. I’ll figure it out.

    beautiful!!
