Unlike Most Reptiles, MAC Year of the Snake Collection Shell Pearl Beauty Powder Absolutely Does Not Bite

February 6th, 2013 by Karen 30 Comments

MAC Shell Pearl Beauty Powder from the Year of the Snake Collection
The MAC Shell Pearl Beauty Powder ($24), a pale peach with golden pearl from the new from the Year of the Snake Collection available exclusively online at maccosmetics.com

With this collection, I keep wanting to type, “MAC Snakes on a Plane!”

In this highly anticipated sequel to the 2006 smash hit, Snakes on a Plane, Samuel L. Jackson reprises his role as hot-tempered FBI agent Neville Flynn! — only this time, the reptiles he’s facing at 30,000 feet are more pigmented than poisonous.

That’s just such a catchy name, isn’t it? Snakes on a Plane. And I never even saw the movie.

I’ll tell you what, though — I sure would love to take the new Shell Pearl Beauty Powder on a trip…

Smile! Here I’m wearing Shell Pearl on my cheeks…

Months from now when we look back at the spring makeup collections, I have a feeling that shimmery golden pearl Shell Pearl Beauty Powder will be one of the first products that springs to mind. Over the course of a hot second — or was it more like a week? — it accompanied two separate collections — Archie’s Girls (as the Pearlmatte Face Powder in Flatter Me) and Snakes on a Plane Year of the Snake.

I’ve loved the shade ever since the first time I remember seeing it in the Liberty of London collection. It lends a wonderful sun-kissed look to cheeks with a hint of peach and a soft golden shimmer.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I have really similar products to this but the embossing on the powder is really tempting me.

It’s very pretty and now, instead of remembering the name Shell Pearl, I’ll think of it as Snakes on a Plane blush. Thanks for that! HAHA!

Oh, on a totally separate note, I’m kind of excited that my SK-II deluxe samples supposedly arrived today. I’ve been really wanting to try their stuff but haven’t been able to sample it (and wanted to try before I bought). I can’t remember if you said you’d used anything from the line. If so, did you like it? I’m hoping it’ll make me look like Galadriel, minus the ears. 🙂

OOOH! What samples did you get?! Please tell me you have a sample of the mask. You’ll look absolutely cray with it on (think Jason Voorhees), but your skin will look radiant once you pull it off.

HAHA! I’d put up with a little Jason for that payoff! 🙂 Sadly, the mask isn’t one of them. It is the Cleanser and the Cellumination Cream. I used them both last night and this AM and thought they smelled like roses and worked well. No dramatic results yet, but it’s only Day 1. 🙂

Btw, I just finished Ep 6 of Season 1 of Homeland. I really like it and I knew I’d be in trouble when I was bawling in the first 10 minutes. Brody’s homecoming broke my heart! I can’t imagine.

Ahh, let me know if either of both are miracle workers. I don’t think I’ve tried those products yet. I’ve only used the eye cream (which I like) and the mask.

Wait, when did you start watching Homeland? Did you jump to episode 6 or are you all the way caught up? Details, lady!

This is such a pretty color! This is going on my ever growing list of new products I want to try.

Also, I read this article today about a kitty rescue organization on the island of Lanai. I’ve never heard of it before, but it sounds like an amazing place. You can even virtually adopt a kitty. I bet there is some great undiscovered kitty modeling talent over there. 🙂

      Hi Ruchita,

Thank you for sharing this! I absolutely loved it. Funny, El Hub knows someone who works on Lanai and we sometimes joke about moving there (probably won’t happen, but you never know). If I ever go, I plan to stop by the shelter to visit the kitties. 🙂

Did you notice the abundance of tabbies in the shelter pics? Tabbies rule!

Glad you liked it! Yep, great to see so many tabby cats. That would be awesome if you get a chance to visit some day!

Do you like this one better or Archie’s Flatter Me?

      Hi Agata,

I like both for different reasons. I think that Flatter Me has more peachy tones and is less shiny, so it looks more like a traditional blush than a highlighter. In the Snakes version, much more gold pearl comes through, so it’s a little more disco and highlighter-y. 🙂 I think it ultimately depends on the finish you want and how you plan to use it. I think Flatter Me would look really pretty on your skin, btw.

Thanks Karen. I love highlighters but I also love peachy blushes 🙂 That’s a tough one and I definitely shouldn’t get both. Btw, have you seen the new Chanel highlighting powder? It’s sooo gorgeous!!!

Thanks! I’m wearing the green shade from the new NARS Mad Mad World Duo on my lids with a mix of MAC Arena and Soba in my crease. Here’s a link to the NARS duo just in case you’re interested.

I really like the snake pattern, but I am not too sure about the color. Everyone seems to love it but I an just not sure what to think of it, lol. Guess I need to go and give it a try!

Aww, I think it’s kinda cool. I like that it’s a bit abstract, but you can still see the snake theme very clearly.

I just ordered this and the Freckletone lipstick from this collection after seeing your gorgeous pictures. We have a similar skintone and I’m always wary of buying stuff online because I never know how they look on my skintone so it’s great having someone like you who takes these wonderful pictures and represents a different skintone.

      Hi Brianna,

I’m so glad you’re finding the swatches and site helpful. I wore Freckletone again today…topped it off with MAC Dazzleglass in Girl’s Delight, so fun!

Have you been a MAC fan for a while? I’ve been following their stuff since around late 2006/early 2007.

I’ve been following MAC since 2010. My first purchase were the Cream Colour Bases from the Stylishly Yours collection. I’ve always been more of a bold lip kind of girl so Freckletone is my first nude from MAC

That was a good launch. I still heart those CCBs. They’re around here somewhere, LOL!

I gotta say, MAC makes some killer bold lips. Do you have Impassioned yet? It’s like a watermelon hot pink and one of my faves.

Ahh! I love both of those colors. 🙂

Do you have Syrup? It’s like a purple pink version of neutral lips.

This one is super pretty, but I think I will go for Flatter Me instead, since it’s a bit more pigmented. Love the colors of both so much, though! 🙂

    Hi,
Is the Shell Pearl more like a highlighter than a blush?
