The YSL Spring 2013 Makeup Collection: Satisfy Lemmings for Light Green Lacquers by Layering Jade Imperial on Your Nails

Wearing the new YSL Spring Look 2013 La Lacque Couture nail polishes in Jade Imperial and Bronze Pyrite on my nails ($25 each)

Doop-da-dooo… Just sitting here in my car in the rain, swatching and thinking about the new Yves Saint Laurent Spring 2013 makeup collection.

Yesterday, on the way back home from lunch in the city with my friend Kate, I stopped by the mall for, ya know, “educational purposes.” While there, I fell under a brief trance in front of a YSL display…

GURL, ever since Chanel’s Jade polish rocked my world, I’ve had weak knees for light green nail polishes, like this limited edition one (Jade Imperial) from YSL.

It’s creamy, and just bright enough to steer it safely out of baby poo khaki territory. 🙂

I even love its name: Jade Imperial. I walked out of Nordstrom without it, but then in my car in the parking lot, looking at it on my nail (notice how I said, “nail”? LOL!), I came this close to going back in for it, but it was getting late in the day, and I wanted to beat traffic, so I drove away empty-handed (except for the one nail…).

BAY AREA FUN FACT: here in Marin county where I live, the one main highway is called the 101. It runs north-south from Washington State down to Southern California, about 1,550 miles, along what was once the old trail which linked the Spanish missions, pueblos and presidios along the U.S. West Coast.

Oh, and if you’re on it between the hours of 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., you’re probably not moving faster than 20 miles per hour.

The kinda bright, pastel-ish quad in the display pic also caught my eye. I tried to track it down, but it wasn’t on display yet for some reason.

Among the things I did spy from the collection while I was there were two $55 quads — Pure Chromatics No. 5 and No. 19. Both reminded me of the Smashbox eye palettes I swatched the other day from the new Love Me collection, because, like those, these were super creamy, soft and shimmery.

The store also had some other pieces from the collection — another shimmery polish (Bronze Pyrite), four brighter shades in the Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stains (looked pretty vibrant and interesting), two very sheer Volupte Sheer Candy Lipsticks, a shimmery greenish black mascara, and three cool-toned Crème de Blush potted cream blushes.

If I make it back over to Nordy’s this weekend and Jade Imperial is still there, it’s gonna be hard to resist…

Karen

The nail polishes really caught my eye! The metallic one is a little streaky, but metallic ones mostly are. For a bronze that flashes green? I’d tolerate the streaks!

I didn’t have too much trouble with streaks. 🙂

I picked up only one thing from the collection but the nail polishes definitely had me hovering over the counters for too long. Lol

Oh, I know 🙂 My nail polish collection is huuuuge 🙂 I’m currently wearing the liquid sand nail polish from the OPI Mariah Carey collection, it’s pretty unique.

Such lovely colors! I’m curious about that blush in nr 8, I wonder how it would look on a face. Seems like an interesting blush color.

Loving the Jade Imperial- just dusty enough to steer clear of the mint territory. looks fab on you! Intrigued by those glossy stains, too. Have you tried any of those? #28 would be my pick

Happy New Year! London was busy, but fun. I got to see the major sites in the city as well as Stonehenge and the city of Bath. I missed the kitties, but was able to Skype with them. 🙂

      Hi Denise,

I reviewed a purple shade from the line last year. Here’s a review, in case you’re interested. 🙂

Ooo, I was just at Nordstrom today on the hunt for a new foundation and I can’t believe I missed this! (I use Le Teint Touché Elcat, so I didn’t hit that counter.) I love the Bronze Pyrite and new Glossy Stains!! Must. Go. Back.

As soon as I saw Jade Imperial in the title, I had a feeling you were going to by psyched. I remembered your love for Chanel’s last year. 🙂

The eye palettes look pretty similar in your swatches – both are nice – but, is it me, or is everything extra frosty for spring? (asks the old lady with the wrinkles). HAHA!

That Jade Imperial is dead-on for spring polish hues. I think it’d look great with a silver shadow along the cuticle line (my new favorite way of doing nails). I’ve been dabbling a ton in green nail polishes (see example here: http://www.fearnobeauty.com/nail-tipped/pro-logic-quick-dry-nail-polish-tips-to-avoid-annoying-bed-sheet-marks/), but mostly brights. I think this “grayed jade” is ultra-sophisticated. Need to buy it… 🙂

Both of the polishes are beautiful, I really like the packaging, too. It’s funny, I saw them at Nordstrom as well and almost purchased both, but the sales person was helping someone else and I had to go. I keep thinking that I’ll go back and get them, and now seeing how lovely they look in the photo I know I will. May have to try the #28 and #30 glosses, too!

Goodness, Jade Imperial is beautiful! I love that YSL didn’t include green anywhere else in their makeup line so the nails really stand out. Thanks for sharing all the swatches!

I currently have #1, 1AB and 11 in the metallic palettes. And I love them. Almost hit pan on one of them and that’s hard to do with having over 30 palettes and singles. I can’t wait to get some summer shades. Imperial Jade looks like a must have too! Thanks for the review.
