too faced summer 2012

Not yet past the vernal equinox, and the beauty world is already buzzing about summer?

It’s enough to drive a girl to…the closest Sephora. πŸ™‚

And this year, the calendar-crushing makeup lovers at Too Faced are leading the charge with a six-piece summer collection of products for eyes, face and body. A few of the pieces, like the Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzing Powder, are available now online, but the bulk of the release is still en route to Sephora stores and counters. ETA: very soon.

Here are pics and swatches of five of the six pieces from the release. Have a look-see, and let me know what you think.

  1. I love their primer which adds a bit of bronze to you complexion as well. How is the mascara? Did you like it?

    • Karen says:

      Hi Milly,

I tried it this afternoon for the first time. I think I’ll need to spend a little more time working with it. The process is kinda complicated, and I wanted my lashes to look a little longer We’ll see.

  2. Savannah says:

  3. Dawn says:

I shouldn’t have looked. Now I want the eyeshadow set!

  4. Hmmm I’m interested in the mascaras and face primer! I haven’t actually tried anything from Too Faced (limited access here in Belgium) but I’d love to soon!

I am speechless! That eyeshadow palette is perfect!!! I can’t wait for it to come out!

  6. Emily says:

All these summer clollections are making me super excited, and especially this one! Can’t wait for more reviews!

  7. Katelyn says:

I haven’t tried any Too Faced products before, but that eyeshadow palette is calling my name!

    • Karen says:

      Hi Katelyn,

Then have some nice pieces. I like their bronzers and lipglosses. Some of the palettes, like this one, are a lot of fun, too. Oh, and of course there’s their fab Shadow Insurance primer, which is also great.

  8. Jennifer says:

I need that eyeshadow palette now. It’s practically summer where I’m at now – why wait?

  9. Josh :D says:

Is the primed and poreless like a traditional silicone primer or is it different?

    • Karen says:

      Hi Josh,

I’m trying to track down the ingredient list, but judging from the texture, it feels like it contains silicone. It has a ton of slip.

  10. Jessica says:

I always seem to pass by Too Faced products when at Ulta or Sephora, maybe nothing’s piqued my interest before? My mother has the Natural Eye palette and loves it.

I have to say, these swatches do have me interested a little more than the past palette offerings. Is it just me or do the colors seem a bit more varied than usual?

I really enjoy Too Faced! I just discovered it fairly recently, but everything I’ve tried has been really impressive. That’s only three products, though: Beach Bunny bronzer, Shadow Insurance primer in Lemon Drop, and Celebrity Meltdown lipstick. I’m definitely planning to pick up that eye palette, though! And if that Pure primer is silicone-free, it’s going on my list.

  13. The shadows are pretty nice and I like their lipsticks…the ones in the pink tube casing with the gem on top.

  14. Naomi says:

i love the palette! maybe this maybe my first purchase from toofaced? looking forward to seeing the swatch on the mermaid shade!

Do you know of any dupes for “coral crush”? I’ve been searching for a good coral eyeshadow and I love that one but I really don’t need the whole palette. Do you happen to know how MAC’s Paradisco compares?

  16. Chris25 says:

Damn, TF is hitting it out of the park with these palettes! This one is going to become roommates with my Natural Eye palette. πŸ™‚

    • Karen says:

      Hi Chris!

I think this palette will get along with your Natural Eye palette quite nicely. πŸ™‚ Oh, and in case you were wondering, it’s kitty approved, LOL!

  17. Let says:

The palette looks awesome! It’s probably the first Too Faced palette that interests me.

    • Karen says:

      Hi Let,

I know what you mean. The last time I got excited about one was the smokey one from years ago! I love the addition of teal to this palette.

Did you have a good Monday? I hope so!

  18. Amanda says:

I’m loving the colors in this palette! And the body bronzer looks kinda interesting but may be too dark for my pale skin.

  19. Adrienne says:

I’m always being temped by their powder shadows, they have some nice pairings and some gorgeous colors but my experience with them has been less than stellar, I find they are prone to fading and creasing more than similarly priced competitor brands.

On the other hand, their eyeshadow primer is my HG, and their cream shadows based on the primer are pretty sweet too! I’m very hot and cold with Too Faced, so they are products that I would definitely give a chance and am tempted by, but will always try before buying!

  20. Stacie says:

    I love it!

  21. Karen says:

    Hi Kelsey,

You might really like this one, then. The teal and coral take it to the next level!

  22. Nina says:

the color of the palette is such a pretty blue … πŸ™‚ and i want the matte bronzer! im all for anything matte!

  23. Sam says:

Honestly, I am IN LOVE with Too Faced’s eyeshadows. They are amazing and I feel they are so underrated, and I have tons of eyeshadow! I must have that palette, I love how it incorporates bronze, teal, and coral!

  24. Jeanne says:

The Coconut Oil Body Bronzer looks super pretty! I started using Too Faced Shadow Insurance after I broke 2 of Urban Decay’s old Primer Potion genie bottles and I quite liked it (though I did return to my beloved UDPP once they released it in tube form!). I was also lucky enough to have 500 points at Sephora when they had the Too Faced Eye Love Palette perk and I love it πŸ™‚

  25. Kaelin Chan says:

I’m really a fan of the idea of their boxed palettes, but I just returned the Matte Eye today :/. The pigmentation just wasn’t up to par on my NC30 skin. A total bummer, because it really was a good range of shades in there, and I love mattes. I’m really intrigued by the Summer Eye though, what do you think of the quality of the shadows?

  26. Kayla says:

I’ve never been so in love with one of Too Faced’s palettes. I could do without the Classic Eye but the other two looks are beautiful. Is that a new version of Chocolate Soleil or is it the same one being re-promoted for summer? It looks a little bit lighter… If so, I’m all over that! My NC15 skin is terrified of most bronzers, I can’t seem to make them work.

  27. Phyrra says:

I really like the colors in that palette! The peaches, the teal and the pinks are all pretty.

I have the ‘Naked’ pallette, which is my ‘work’ colours of pinks, creams, browns and taupes. I love it, but think it’s fairly ‘entry-level’ make-up: perhaps not for you make-up aficionados! If you stick to the looks in the accompanying booklet, it’s impossible to stuff it up, which is what I need, in the morning. πŸ˜€

  30. Agata says:

I have never had any Too Faced product ( I moved to the US only 2 years ago and Too Faced is not sold in Europe) but I can’t wait to get this palette. It looks gorgeous. I hope it is released soon πŸ™‚

  31. Dominique says:

It’s a beautiful palette, I love it, colours are really pretty !

  32. Cristy says:

Great Brand!!! I’m saving for IMATS L.A, but it’s very dificult!!!!! I don’t know If this products are cheaper there… I want to try the poreless primer but the regular bc I Super dry skin! πŸ˜‰

  33. Ooh, Mermaid is deceptive, isn’t it? I wasn’t expecting that much depth in that shade, how gorgeous!

Karen, I forgot to say that Two Faced is really a great brand ! I love the powders ( bronzers and other powders ), the eye palettes ( I have 3 ) and lipsticks as well. I can’t wait to buy this one, I didn’t puchase ” Natural at night “, I think it’s more suitable for hazelnut eyes but otherwise I love their palettes.

  36. Tzu says:

does the teal look like the new estee lauder summer palette you review a couple of weeks back?

  37. Coral says:

I bought the Sweet Dream palette around Christmas and I fell in love with TooFaced. I started wanting all the palettes and find I had to restrain myself from swooping them all up. This time, I don’t think I can resist this temptation from this palette. The primer also looks like something that might find itself in my basket when I’m out indulging.

I’m sorry to report that I returned TFSI as well as Primed and Poreless. Neither one of them worked for my eyelids or skin!

But I still really want the Natural Eye palette, and, gosh, I think I NEED to own the Summer Eye palette as well! πŸ˜€

    • Summer says:

And, well, I think I want to give the new Sensitive Primed and Poreless a go too! This brand and I have the craziest love-hate relationship, I swear.

How long lasting are these eyeshadows? I have oily lids even when I use a primer.

  42. Nicole says:

Ooo I am really coveting this palette! Maybe I’ll use the 20% off I got from Too Faced in my Vintage Sale order…

Overall, Too Faced is one of my favorite brands. It took me by surprise because I found the aesthetic of some of the packaging off putting at first, but it turns out that doesn’t really say anything about the contents. Now I use the Primed and Poreless primer (returned the Hourglass primer in favor of this), Shadow Insurance, the new Tinted Beauty Balm, and their eyeshadows everyday.

I would love to see some looks with this palette, Karen! Can’t wait for your reviews of the other products in the Summer collection πŸ™‚

  43. Irene says:

I wish I didn’t read this, I’m obsessed with Too Faced eyeshadow palettes. The colors looks great! The actual palette looks cute too!! This is definitely on my wish list. I haven’t even used all of my Too Faced palettes yet! I need to stop buying and start using!

  44. Sharlynn says:

Okay, that’s it…I’ve just got their natural eye palette which has been getting love but this I HAVE TO GET. I love all the colors! I’d totally use that teal, til it’s done!

It’s like $60 here at sephora but I’m getting it!! πŸ˜›

Love the new shadow palette. Can’t wait to get it.

  48. Vivi Lemieux says:

Oh my gosh, thanks for swatching this new palette Karen. I’ve stayed away from my temptation to pick up a Two-faced palette but I’m giving in to this one. I find that in general, Two-Faced has some very high quality products in their line (the eyeshadows always tend to be quite pigmented and smooth for me), but they tend to play it safe with colour and stick close to neutrals. This palette seems a bit unique from what they mostly release, so I feel like it’s a must-have!

  49. Surekha says:

This palette looks lovely. I’ve never bought a Too Faced palette before – though I really wanted the Sweet Dreams one that came out last year πŸ™

Though I not normally a fan of pink eyeshadows, this seems like it would suit someone like me (I’m dark-skinned – MAC wise I range from nw40-43). Too Faced seems to have become increasingly difficult to get hold of here in UK. Before Boots and Debenhams used to have them but now I can only find it in selected Boots stores. Luckily I still have my Mood Swing lipgloss!

  50. Adrienne says:

I really love the look of the palette but those colors will make me look bruised :(. Maybe I’ll get when it hits sephora just to try it out but I’m definitely buying the new primer! I love the original and I’ve always wanted an oil free one.

  51. JenniLouise (@JenniLouise) says:

did you get to play with the mascara more? do you like it? i’ve been trying to research it before getting it, it’s very intriguing!

  52. Carole Altendorf says:

I ordered the summer eyeshadow palette directly from Too Faced. They are also offering a free summer bronzer. I also got an eye liner pencil to get the total to $50.00—–so free shipping. Guess I will have it before anyone else.

  53. Mari says:

I really REALLY like the teal in this palette. Would you say that MAC Teal pigment is a good alternative? or what shade would you recommend that is as look alike as possible to the Mermaid shade?? Thank you

  54. kylie moretz says:

those things are beautiful i love the name of the mascara lol
