I’ll Be Your Gypsy With the New Make Up For Ever La Bohème Collection

February 2nd, 2012 by Karen 54 Comments

Does thunder only happen when it’s raining? Do players only love you when they’re playing?

Excellent questions…but I don’t know. What I do know is this: if I spend any more time with the new Make Up For Ever La Bohème collection, I might turn into 1977 Stevie Nicks!

Which would be kinda cool. 🙂

But first…where’d I put my Rumours eight-track? Oh, there it is! Right next to that flowing maxi dress.

The four pieces in the new 1970s-inspired collection of makeup for lips and eyes showcase some of the soft colors, bold prints and flowing fabrics that recently made waves on runways for spring 2012.

Carefree romantic rebels, check this out: the limited edition launch, which just twirled into Sephora stores and Make Up For Ever Boutiques, spotlights eyes with MUFE’s first-ever baked eyeshadow palette, La Bohème ($39), and a new matte brown Aqua Eye Pencil ($18) called Gypsy.

Lips also loosen up with two new Rouge Artist Natural Lipsticks — one, an iridescent peachy beige called Bohème, and the other, a reddish coral called Folk ($19 each).

I have reviews and looks lined up, but here are a few pics to whet your appetite…

Okay, the shimmer and soft texture of the baked eyeshadows? WOW! Something tells me that palette’s gonna be a must-have.

What do you think? So far I’m lovin’ these colors.

Not that I need any more TV in my life but…

Anthony Bourdain: The LayoverAre you watching Anthony Bourdain’s new show, The Layover, on the Travel Channel? He spends 72 hours in a city exploring some of the different things to do and places to eat while hanging out with local folks, and one of the things I like about it is that Bourdain usually goes off the beaten path.

For the last episode he went to Los Angeles and spent a chunk of time eating in Koreatown. Now I’m craving bibimbap! It’s a rice bowl dish typically made with veggies, chili pepper paste and a fried egg and/or sliced meat on top. The last time I had it was in Hawaii a couple years ago, but if I close my eyes I can still taste it now…

Damn these PMS cravings.

Hope you had a good day today. Friday is just around the corner. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

GAHH. I think I just had a packaging nerd orgasm over the palette!

Makeup For Ever has really been impressing me lately (Full Cover concealer is the first concealer that I have found in my 10 years, and counting, of having acne that i can actually say i like !!), and add that to this inner hippie/bohemian spirit I’ve got hidden under my much-loved Calvin Klein dresses, and I’m seriously wanting something from this collection!

      Hi Adrienne,

Thanks for the concealer rec. I’ve been wanting to try something new! Does it blend easily?

I use it for blemishes and other discolorations, so I haven’t tried it under the eyes yet, but I find that it blends excellently! I use a stippling type motion over the blemish then blend out the edges. A little goes a long way, and I loveloveLOVE that it doesn’t call extra attention to the dryer skin around some blemishes that results from spot treatments!

And as for coverage and lasting power on my very difficult oily skin, this thing kicks every concealer I’ve tried’s butt! I look in the mirror after a 9 hour shift and, yes my coverage has gotten a bit patchy, and I’m bowling-ball shiny, but for the most part the spots are still well covered!! Out of habit I keep pulling my concealer and brush out at the end of my lunch time to retouch, and then I look in the mirror, say “yay!” and put them right back because they’re not needed 🙂

The eyeshadow palette is almost what you’d expect from Urban Decay! Very vibrant and fun! The entire collection has lovely spring-y colors 🙂 I also love the name. Makes me want to don a long flowery skirt and run around the prairie with bare feet (tho that really isn’t happening now that it’s 20 degrees here)…

I’m very surprised that this was created by MUFE. Usually, their packaging is plain, but sleek. The packaging in this collection is GORGEOUS and super cute. The eyeshadows look pigmented too, but too bad I’m not a fan of pastel shades. =/

this is a surprising palette – kinda frilly for MUFE. the colors are pretty but i tend to stay away from pastels. especially during the summer, they tend to look weird on me. 🙂

I need to get some today! I just found a deli place in my town that serves Korean food at lunch (random!), so I’m hoping to do a drive by. Sometimes my body just needs rice!

You’re right about it being a little frilly for the brand! It’s neat to see them doing different things.

What are you up to this weekend? Got any exciting plans?

i know – im glad theyre not all about the strong, vivid eyeshadows.

tomorrow – we want to eat some crawdads. its not in season yet so im not sure where were going. sunday – the hubs is belt testing for his brazilian jiu jitsu class, so i guess ill be at his school all afternoon. 🙂

You know, I don’t think I’ve ever had a crawdad! Are they like shrimp? Good luck to your hubs on his belt testing tomorrow!

As for us, I think we’re going to try to get outside this weekend. The weather is supposed to be really nice on both Sat and Sun, so I’m going to try to go hiking on one day and hit up the food trucks on Sunday. Oh, and I have a bunch of Downton Abbey eps to watch. 🙂

a crawdad tastes like a cross bet a shrimp and a lobster … its good but i personally only like to eat it when its in season. accdg to one of my aunts, the season is all the months without an R in the name of it (so may, june, july, aug). before and after that – the crawdads are tiny and so difficult to peel!

im leaving work at 1 pm today, so hopefully then.

i hope the belt test goes well. hes promoting from blue to purple so its a bit harder…

its going to be cold here on sunday — 50s? perfect chili weather.

i swear im going to get caught up w/ Downtown Abbey! 🙂

Interesting! I love shrimp, but I’ve yet to eat a really inspirational lobster, LOL! I bet I would like crawdads. I’d probably be able those suckers pretty quickly, because I can do shrimp really fast.

Yay, short work day! Those are the BEST. I’m going to try to finish early today so I can go to the movies. 🙂

            February 3rd, 2012 at 3:00 pm

the best crawdads to me are a better version of the lobster — the meat is smaller and therefore more tender! also because its a small creature, it absorbs flavor very well!

if you have a boiling crab nearby, try it there! the whole shebang is the best! 🙂

i went to target and bought some greek food for dinner! am home now!
