It’s never good when you get a text from your boss that starts with the words, “Uh, oh.”
There I was, sitting at my desk, minding my own business and surfing the Lonely Planet website on my break for summertime surf destinations, when I hear the familiar sound of my iPhone signaling a new text message. I look down at the screen and see the words, “Uh, oh.”
Long story short, because Tabs booked back-to-back kitty modeling jobs for every week this summer, I don’t get to take any vacation time through September.
Not one day.
“Uh, oh,” he says. “All booked up for summer. No vacations for either of us.”
Either of us, he says. As if! He’s not the one stuck in Novato. He gets to see the world, stay at four-star hotels, eat at the best restaurants, and never has to pay a thing, while I’m eating grilled-cheese sandwiches at home and having Mango Bars for dessert.
Sometimes, it’s just not fair…
Seriously, his idea of slumming it is having to stay at the Four Seasons on The Big Island, instead of Maui.
I know, I know — Tabs is the talent; I’m just the assistant. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have a right to get angry.
Oh, well… Hopefully these new pieces from the limited edition Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Capri Collection can cheer me up.
The summer 2012 release coasts on to counters stores next month (it’s currently available now online) and comes with two summery fragrances and 13 bronzed bits, some new and some re-promoted, in sun-kissed shades of gold, brown, turquoise and white.
Reviews coming just as soon as I finish transcribing Tabs’ manuscript.
Oh, yeah — didn’t I mention? He’s writing his autobiography right now. It begins, “Meow, mrow, meow-meow.”
What a diva, right? Cat’s got some nerve… 🙂
Here’s a quick look at seven pieces from the release. Have a look, and let me know what you think.

The nail polish is so pretty!
Karen says
I can’t wait to put it on toes. It should look really pretty with a pair of neutral wedges, yes?
Sunny @ Mostly Sunny says
I totally agree! Can’t believe the summer collections are already coming out! I’m JUST getting a kick from the spring ones lol
beautylogicblog says
wow that all looks gorgeous! wow.
Karen says
It’s so pretty, right? What are you liking/loving?
Nina says
the powder gelee is so intriguing to me. and the colors of this collection are just so summery and fun … i can almost imagine lounging in a hammock far away in a tropical island …
Karen says
Me too! I would love that right now: a hammock, a cold iced tea (extra sweet and with mint!) and the sound of the waves… ahhh!
So, the Powder Gelee. It’s really cool. Super pigmented, soft and almost creamy!
Nina says
ohhh i want it. i love soft and creamy. 🙂
id love a vacay by the beach, and soon!
Karen says
You and me both! I just wish I could bring Tabs with us, LOL! I miss him so much when we aren’t home. Such a crazy cat lady, I know.
Nina says
awww … i miss the furkids when im not home too. 🙂 were bonafide CCLs, thats for sure!
if you bring Tabs, ill bring LOL. we will bask ln tabby overload!
Jennifer says
Wow, the palette looks so beautiful!!! But I was slightly disappointed by the color swatch, they’re not very special. I love the shimmering powder (even though I don’t know how to use shimmering powder… or highlight powder… my face is just weird…).
Karen says
Hi Jennifer,
The colors might be a little basic, but I think that can be a good thing! At least you’ll be able in incorporate the neutrals into a lot of different looks.
Jennifer says
You are totally right! I can’t wait to see the look you’re going to create with this palette. You always make the nicest makeup looks that are so natural, but yet original and sometimes with a little oomph! I am waiting with impatience! 😉
Karen says
Hoping to do something either today or tomorrow! I am chomping at the bit to get to that blue in the center. 🙂 It’s overcast here today and I think I need a little color.
How’s the weather out your way?
Rae // theNotice says
Ooh, now that is one *seriously* cute warm-weather collection. I love how well-coordinated everything is – and those shades!
I can’t wait to see what kind of look you do with the palette, Karen 🙂 The colours all look amazing swatched on your skintone!
Stacie says
Would like to see those colors in action! Looks a bit too light for me
Marina says
Love the nail polish colour and how the products have this ‘wave’ prints on them.
kiwikiwidragon says
Ugh, I want everything you have pictured. What does the liquid bronzer and fragrances smell like??
Karen says
Hi Kiwidragon,
Yeah, the Bronze Goddess collections always get me, too.
Regarding your question, the liquid bronzer has a very faint floral scent. The Bronze Goddess fragrance is a repromote; here’s a review I did on the Body Oil Spray from a few years back:
https://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/product-reviews/estee-lauder-has-a-lil-something-for-bronze-and-not-so-bronze-goddesses/
I love the scent and wear it throughout the summer. It’s just so beachy!
The new Bronze Goddess Capri has similar notes, but it’s a little more musky and richer.
kiwikiwidragon says
Thanks for the info Karen! I am trying to be good and not buy the whole collection, if you had to choose just one piece, what would you choose?
katherine says
I ordered this and am still waiting on it. Thank you for the swatches. I wonder if the colors of the palette would be intensified by being wet? The other cyber colors I have are—beautiful palette!
Karen says
Hi Katherine,
Yes, you can make the shades look more metallic by wetting your brush first. I usually use MAC Fix+.
Aren’t the Cybers super cool? Estee Lauder’s gotten really hip in the last few years.
MereMakeupManiac says
what a pretty editorial shot! am drooling at the goodies – i think am daydreaming too…
Lisa S. says
Love, love the the nail color! It’s a bit unexpected for a summer color.
PinkGlitter says
The Shimmering Sands Powder Gelée looks interesting. The liquid bronzer does too!
Kim says
Ooh, I like the polish color. On a funny note, I thought the starfish in your eyeshadow pic was your left hand making an “L” and I was like “hmmm, I wonder why Karen is wearing white gloves…”. HAHA!
Oh, hey, guess what? I finally picked up a Sonia Kashuk bent eyeliner brush after the dentist yesterday. I used it this AM and really liked it. I have to confess that my pencil liner and the other 2 powders I applied with the brush are all shades of brown, but at least I have a new tool. 🙂
corallista says
This is pure gorgeousness! Can’t wait to see these on you. I love the touch of teal in the eye shadow palette!
TJ says
I like the colors, but I REALLY like the nail color.
Fieran says
Love the nail polish and the eyeshadow palette 🙂
Deanna says
I’ve been hanging out for swatches of this collection. Thanks so much Karen! Shimmering Sands Powder Gelee and Molten Lava Lacquer are definitely calling to me!
crystal says
I do love the fragrance but I am a little disappointed by the make up, good thing there are so many other great collections!
