Urban Decay UD Gwen Stefani Collection First Look and Swatches

The Urban Decay UD Gwen Stefani Collection

Urban Decay UD Gwen StefaniI realize that the “L.A.M.B.” in Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. line stands for “Love, Angel, Music, Baby,” but can we please pretend for a sec that it stands for “Love, Angel, Makeup, Baby”?

Because, makeup? Pretty please? It makes sense when you consider Gwen’s new collaboration collection with Urban Decay, UD Gwen Stefani.

Think of it as a part deux extension of last year’s UD Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette. There are lipsticks galore (and, hello! — it wouldn’t be a G.Stef collab without rockin’ reds), lip pencils, a blush palette and a brow box.

Here are swatches and pics of the whole kit and caboodle, but I need a little more time with these products to canoodle (!), then I’ll holla back, girl (haha, you know I couldn’t resist), with some looks and the full scoop.

I’m lovin’ the reds, especially the matte red, 714. Very bright. And I like the packaging. That gold and black seems very Gwen.

I was a little bummed when I swatched Ex-Girlfriend, one of the Lipsticks, because it was so creamy that the lipstick bullet broke. 🙁 And I won’t be able to use the Brow Box, because it’s for blondes…so in this case, I guess blonde’s really do have more fun.

The Urban Decay UD Gwen Stefani Collection

  • (1) Blush Palette — $45
  • (8) Lipsticks — $18 each
  • (6) Lip Pencils — $20 each

What’s your favorite lipstick from the collection?

Oooh, well, I swatched them this afternoon (I’ll have the post up soon) and so far it’s gotta be 714, the matte red. 🙂 I liked the opacity and the texture.

I really like Ex-Girlfriend as a nude shade! Just be careful when you get yours, as it’s very creamy.

Karen!! I’m sooo excited for this collection! After Panicking about not being able to get my greedy hands on her eye shadow pallet, I now own 2!! My fave pallet ever!! In this collection, I need “ex girlfriend” everything!!

I wasn’t able to comment on your post about how long does your makeup take, which us such a chore lately for me, but omgggggggg, how stunning do you look?!?! You look like you’re 20 years old! I love the natural look on you. Ate you wearing the 2 MAC glosses in that pic that you mentioned? Gorgeous, girl!

I hope you are sleeping and feeling better! Xoxo

Look at you with your backup palette! You are my makeup hero, LOL! 😀

And aww, thanks you for the nice compliment about that look. I think I’m wearing NARS Chihuahua Lipgloss in that pic. I put it in my makeup bag a couple weeks ago and have been wearing it a ton!

I hope that you’re having a nice week so far. How’s 2016 treating you?

I’m loving all of this, though the brow powders are too light and cool-toned for me.

I want to snag the blush palette and the Firebird lipstick. Maybe Spiderweb, too.

I usually don’t mind cool toned colors for brows! But I guess this one’s only for the blondes. 🙂 UD has other shades of their Brow Box in the permanent line, by the way, in case you’re interested.

Thanks, Karen. I usually try to coordinate my brows when my hair is auburn, so I usually go a little warm with the brow powder. Right now I’m bright magenta-red, and I’ve gone back to my natural dark brown brows (most of the time), but these shades are too light. I think the packaging is cute, but I’ll live without the powders.

Ooh, you should talk to Chelsea here in the comments! She’s a redhead, too. I bet she’d have some good ideas for you, brow-wise.

Happy Friday from rainy Nor Cal!

I used to just use Almay i-color Mascara in Raisin Quartz on them, and that actually worked out perfectly for me. But it was discontinued a few years ago, and I’m all out of backups.

I’ll have to keep an eye out for Chelsea. Thanks for the tip.

Chelsea is super nice! And she’s a mom to a two kitties and bunny. 🙂

Bummer about your backups being gone (don’t you have it when that happens?). I’m not sure if you’re into powders, but MAC’s Saddle Eyeshadow is supposed to be great for red-haired gals!

P.S. I didn’t know you went to journalism school. How cool! What type of writing did you do? Culture, politics, sports?

          • Rachel R. says

            January 8th, 2016 at 4:30 pm

I majored in News-Editorial Journalism and English. I wrote news and features. I was also assistant editor on my high school newspaper. I won scholarships from the University of Oregon School of Journalism and the Eugene Register-Guard newspaper, among others. I was hoping to go on and get a degree in science, too, and be a science writer. I didn’t quite have enough science credits for it to be a minor. I always planned to go back.

Unfortunately, we found out about my husband’s brain tumor shortly after I graduated. Then we didn’t know how long he had to live, because the tumor was in an area that couldn’t be biopsied. So we had kids while we knew we could. Then the kids had special issues. I turned my skills to advocacy for my kids, then helping others.

At least the tumor grew slowly, and technology advanced enough that the tumor was eventually removed and hubby can expect a normal life span.

Once upon a time I wanted to be a science writer, too. 🙂 They have a program at UC Santa Cruz that’s supposed to be great (should you ever have the time to come back to that dream and end up in California… Hey, we’d almost be neighbors!).

            Here it is: http://scicom.ucsc.edu/

I wanted to apply to this program, too, but the universe had other plans for me.

Happy to know that things worked out for you and your hubby. 🙂

I’m off to a baby birthing class, EEK! It’s all getting so real…

I’ll check out Saddle, thanks. I actually prefer powders over super-creamy pencils. My oily skin doesn’t get along with most pencils, including Just for Redhead’s pencils. I like their brow mascara, but the brush is too big, so I’m trying to find a different brush to use with it. E.l.f. products actually work great for when I do brunette brows, but they don’t have the warm shades.

            January 8th, 2016 at 4:58 pm

You’re welcome. I use it in my crease all the time, LOL! But I think it would be a great brow color too, and I think you’ll like it, because it leans warm. Next time you’re at MAC give it a swatch!

That UCSC program looks so cool. Unfortunately, it’s not in the cards. My kids may be technically adults (they’re 20 and 18), but they still need a lot of daily help.

Maybe I’ll be one of those cool ladies that go back to college in their ’80s. 🙂

I remember birthing class. Have fun! Our class for our first son had a reunion after we’d all had our babies, and we got a picture of all of them together. It was so cool. My second son was only 25 mos. later, so I didn’t really need classes again.

I swatched them this afternoon (the post is coming soon) and they’re beautiful, especially the opaque shades. You might want to think about the liners, too… I did the swatches without the liners and it would’ve been 10000X easier with the liner.

Yeah, I def need a lipstick since Gwen and red lips are so iconic. Tragic Kingdom was one of my first “cool” CDs I owned, when I was like 12. Anyway, out of the selection I really like 714 too, I think it’s different enough from the rest of my red lip collection.

Yah definitely! I really like UD’s lip liner. Also, I’m happy to see that they aren’t upcharging the lipsticks because of the packaging. I think the price is actually lower than the regular Revolution lippies, no?

Oooo, I’m really loving Firebird, Rock Steady, Spiderweb, and Wonderland, lipsticks and pencils both. The blush palette leans a bit warm for me, the brow products a bit too light, but those four lipsticks are right up my alley.

    Hey! 🙂

I just got a little question concerning the blush palette. How much product does it contain actually? On the German website it says it contains 6,8g (not one blush, the whole palette! :O ).

I am just wondering because the eyeshadow palette weighs 21g. I cannot believe that the blush palette weighs 6,8g as it is the same seize as the eyeshadow palette.

    Greetings from Germany!

Huge Gwen fan that I am, and as bananas as I am about the eye palette, there’s going to be a serious haul going on when these come out. The blush palette… well… I’ll refer to Gwen’s hit “Don’t Speak” because I’m simply speechless! These colors are exactly the type of shades I find the most flattering. I already commented on the lip products in the other post but I’ll mention again that Firebird and Spiderweb are my faves, and I’ll pick up Ex-Girlfriend for some variety. If it wasn’t so “red-heavy” I’d probably go for more. Luckily I’m blonde so I can “have more fun” with the brow palette. I never thought anything would de-throne my Anastasia brow powder but I’m beginning to reconsider! The brow box is way too cute!
