12 Makeup Storage Ideas

Imagine actually being able to USE the top of your dresser again for something OTHER than storing piles of random makeup.

Picture a bathroom no longer buried under bottles of moisturizer, yes!

If you’re approaching critical makeup mass — if you can no longer put off the inevitable — then I hope this morning’s 12 More Makeup Storage Ideas can help.

If you liked this post, check out last week’s 21 Ways to Store Your Makeup and 21 MORE Ways to Store Your Makeup.

I have one of those little plastic rubbermaid drawer things. The makeup is separated by section of face… so top is foundation/primer/blush, then eye shadow, liner, and lips. I do think it is the fastest way to put it on, just do one section of face at a time in that order. All non-necessary makeup is stored in my drawers. I guess this method only works well for those of us without an enormous collection though 🙂

      Hi Shiny,

That’s a really great idea. I’m always trying to find better ways to organize stuff so I will have to try that. 🙂

Hahah. its so funny you mention refrigerating makeup. Im not sure with any other cultures, but a lot of older Korean women would always stash they creams, potions and lotions in the fridge!! Me, being Korean, think its so hilarious… BUT it works! and on a hot day.. its nice to cool urself down with a chilled cream 😛

ps. this is SO off topic, but im going to SF memorial day weekend… and i know ur kinda in the BayArea. Is there any spot u recommend to go, whether it be shopping or lounging or even somewhere to eat 😛 let me know! its greatly appreciated!!

    Hi Sarah,

I love popping stuff in the fridge. Try throwing your makeup wipes in there sometime. Cold wipes on a hot day equals HEAVEN.

You’re coming to visit my favorite city, yay! A few things to do: visit the Ferry Building (try to go during the Farmer’s Market; it’s extra fun) for lunch and gourmet food shopping, rent bikes and take the ferry over to Tiburon so you can ride around Tiburon/Mill Valley, visit the MAC Pro store in the Marino, take the SF Ghost Hunt tour at night (I just did this — it’s fun!), visit the Golden Gate Park and go to the Academy of Sciences on Thursday night for NightLife, visit Fisherman’s Wharf (so touristy, but you gotta do it), hit up Union Square for all the big stores like Nordstrom, Saks, Bloomingdales, Macys…

There’s so much to do here! Hopefully the weather is nice when you visit.

I use one of those hanging travel bags for longer trips, but inevitably mine ends up so stuffed with toiletries that I’m afraid it will break the towel bar if I don’t have space to unpack it. Now I keep an inexpensive over-the-door hook in one of the pockets so I never have to worry!

Off-topic: I have acidic skin and EVERY lipstick turns orange on me within a few hours. I’m not really big on lipliner for everyday wear. Do you know of any awesome lip primers that might keep lipcolor true longer for me?

Can I just say that as an ex beauty advisor for 2 counters, a Bay Area gal, freelance makeup artist, and just makeup fiend in general I read many blogs about cosmetics… BUT I have to say yours is on the top of my list girl. I can appreciate that your posts are entertaining, your writing is not bland (I feel like I could hear you talking sista!!) your lay out is clean, and I can actually SEE all of your pictures… which is a problem cuz my work PC usually blocks EVERYTHING.

So mad props to ya, keep up the good work and I’ll see ya in the cosmetics section.

    HOLLA!

haha! the old beauty products in the fridge trick! I’m not sure about makeup but I’ve heard of storing skincare items this way. Martha Stewart’s daughter has a refridgerated drawer installed under her bathroom counter for this reason!

Very useful post, Karen ! My house is a hot mess with products everywhere. My makeup storage is in control thanks to the plastic drawers but the beauty products are a pain. I like having them in front so I use them…but cant keep em all in front ! LOL !
Also, I wanted to tell ya that the back aisles of Ross & T.J. Maxx have some super bargains on storage stuff.

“Amen” to the poster above who talked about creams etc in the fridge. I stash lipsticks in there. Everytime it’s a BOGO sale, one lipstick will go in the bathroom, one in the fridge. Also, a chilled body splash– like my (fricking discountinued– grr!) Bath and Body Works Freshwater Cucumber — stored in the fridge is a great pick me up, particularly during this insane NorCal hot spell.

Ooh, gonna get my spritz-on right now!

Ooh, I loved reading through these articles! I’m actually in the middle of Stash Week on my blog which kicked off with a post on how I organize my makeup stuffs. (Linked below.) I love those individual lipstick holders but unfortunately they just take up so much space! I’ve got my lipsticks in a smaller container with fewer dividers and it works pretty well for me. I think next time I move (coming June/July ish) I’m going to replace my small bookshelf with a set of drawers so I can hold more stuff. My vanity drawer is just getting way too full!

    Also… any ideas for storing nail polish? My little tray is overflowing. ;_;

Hi! I love the ideas and they gave me an idea also! SHOE HOLDERS! Those things you can hang up and put in your shoes in or anything really? I’m about to hang one up right now! (:
