7 Ways to Win a $50 eGift Card From Sephora! (Ends Monday)

September 7th, 2013 by Karen 377 Comments

A Makeup and Beauty Blog giveaway

A Sephora salad for the lady

Aww! I wish Ryan would serve me a salad…

I’m back in the Bay, babe. Back from Vegas and Photoshop World.

The conference was fantastic. I learned a lot of stuff about photography, especially lighting, but it’s all still swirling around in my head. I need some time to let everything percolate, go over my notes, and figure out how to apply the things I learned.

I know one of the areas I want to work on is color temperature and color correction. We get lots of sunshine here in Northern California, but as sunshine is wont to do, the quality and color of it changes over the course of the day and seasons. Face shots taken at 8 a.m. have a totally different color temp than pics taken at 4 p.m., and I’m trying to get the most consistent light possible WITHOUT compromising too much on my creative freedom, because even if it means more consistent color temps, I can’t bring myself to take every pic from the same position, standing in the same spot. It’s just not my thing. I need to be able to mix things up, try different poses, wear different outfits, props, use different backdrops, let myself be inspired. It’s how I keep myself fired up and interested, and it makes blogging more fun for me.

A simple studio setup would be easier, but we don’t do things the easy way here at Tabs the Cat Industries, LLC. Nuh-uh, no, ma’am.

Anywho, I’m blabbering…

It’s giveaway time, so let’s get to it, shall we? RyGos would like to present you with this lovely Sephora garden salad, but you must enter this weekend’s giveaway to partake. 🙂

Good luck, and have a wonderful day, babe. Hopefully I’ll see you on Twitter or Facebook today.

I know it won’t be very original but I love the theme “Friends” song. As far as concealers I really like the Maybelline Age Rweind under eye concealer, the packaging leaves much to be desired but I think the product itself does an excellent job of covering dark circles. Happy weekend (at home :))

I have decided it’s time to start pushing myself and do the things that I keep putting off or scare me. I have been wanting to kayak for years but this past summer I finally started doing it and love it! My goal is to become a strong enough kayaker to go out in the open ocean in Ucluelet to kayak and camp on the islands off the coast. Now, I just need to work on that irrational fear that a whale will swallow me whole or an angry 27 armed octopus with razor fangs will attack and dismember me…*sigh*

Some very good inexpensive concealers I’ve tried are..

    Maybelline Superstay (for acne)
Maybelline Age Rewind (the original for dark circles)

I can’t use these bc I’m allergic to something in them but these are pigmented with a superior formulation. I seriously wish some higher-end brands work as well as these.

I also heard that a lot of people like Hard Candy concealers but I’ve never tried myself.

I have flown in a hot air balloon and gone bungee jumping but not skydiving (yet!). I think the opening sequence of True Blood is one of the best things ever made. The show for me has gotten bad but that opening is still captivating. The song plus the gritty-sleazy-strange-holy-hilarious portrayal of the deep south is genius.

Happy Saturday Karen! A good inexpensive concealer I like is the Cover Girl/Olay one, it’s very moisturizing & it does cover my circles well. I do not have any pics of myself on my wall, just a couple of small ones in frames I gave to my hubby. I subscribe to quite a few magazines: allure, People Style Watch, Better Homes & Gardens, Self, Lucky & Rachael Ray. I know it’s a lot but a couple of them came free with shoe orders lol

The only drug store concealer I own is actually a corrector–Covergirl/Olay simply ageless. It is a yellow color and was about $6.99 for me. My current favorite is Clinique Airbrush Concealer. I consider it fairly inexpensive because it is under $20. I really should try to find a cheaper one though….but I just find my current one so trusty. 😉

I had the opportunity to fly in a hot air balloon when I attended a local balloon festival several years ago. At the time, I was about 8 years old. My mother and I went up in the balloon with several other people. We were part of a competition where we were supposed to drop a sandbag on a target and then go back to the takeoff point. Unfortunately, the day we went up in the air was plagued with heavy winds. We were stuck in the air for about 6 hours. The balloon hit branches and came close to power lines. It was nightfall before we got down! The only way we could land the balloon was to hit the roof of a house and have the people inside grab the ropes and pull us down. Luckily they knew about the situation and were watching for us. I can definitely say that I will NEVER take another balloon ride.

Hmmm. My sister’s husband is a trapeze artiste. That’s about it, other than Walter Cronkite, with whom my mother worked early in her career, and I once had the honor to meet.

I will never go in a hot-air balloon, nor will I ever do anything involving a parachute. I have a debilitating fear of heights. After many trips to NYC, my SO convinced to go up the Empire State Building. Big mistake. After walking, taking various elevators, more walking, more elevators, we got to the top. I freaked out, wouldn’t go outside, and had to get out of that building as soon as possible. Hated it!!

By the way Karen, that pic of you outside Saks with the white bag, totally ROCKS! Yes, I know it is shopped, but you are a Movie Star!!! LOve it!

While I wouldn’t call us “friends” in a traditional sense, my hairdresser is one of my favorite people! Her skill set; cutting, color, styling, is truly an art form. I don’t think hair dressers and make up artists are appreciated or get the respect that they deserve for the skill and artistic eye and sense of vision that is required of them to do their job. It’s a horrible shame. I have tremendous respect for what they do.

I subscribe to InStyle and Self, but I’d much rather read your blog any day! I love it! (I also love Sephora, so I’d be super excited to win a gift card to buy some of the products you recommend…The Hourglass Visionaire eyeshadow duo in Prism was my latest purchase, thanks to your recommendation!)

I’m getting obsessed with red lipsticks again, after 2 months of rehab! And plums too! It is probably the Fall effect plus all the lipstick reviews here (hur hur), but it is definitely the time to indulge in all the rich, gorgeous jewel toned lipsticks! They make me really happy on a grey and cold day. =)

Wooo, another giveaway!!?? You da bomb, Karen and Tabs! My favorite tv show theme song is, admittedly, the one from Baywatch. Even though it has been off the air for years and years, I have it in my iTunes and love the summery vibe. I have a friend who is a very talented artist, and she does painting, studio art, that type of thing. She’s incredible!

I am the least creative person I know. I love to use eyeshadows and liners but I have to look on Instagram to copy other people’s looks. I’m so bad that a lot of times I’ll go buy what whatever products they’re using because I’m not creative enough to use sibstitutes. I’m trying to work on this because it’s getting $$

Quick Tip: For my under eye circles, in place of the Bobbi Brown peach corrector, I use a drugstore cream blush in a similar shade and use my NARS creamy concealer on top. Works wonders and is easy on the purse!

I kind of adore that I currently work as a Beauty Advisor at Walgreens. Getting to put on makeup everyday I work the beauty counter and not having to worry about whether something is day- or work-safe is great fun. Plus getting to see all of the limited edition collections before everybody else (and getting to snatch a few things to buy before everyone else, I’ll admit it.) is pretty brilliant, especially when I get to buy them with my employee discount. But, perhaps the nicest thing is when you get pulled into the office to have a manager say that he wants you to know that if anyone gives you trouble because you’re a guy wearing makeup, be it a customer or even a co-worker, that they are there for me and they will not accept people harassing me about such. That they will stand up for me and that I should feel comfortable wearing makeup whenever I like. I think that’s pretty wonderful. 🙂
