Lip Look: Chanel Rouge Hydrabase Leopard Lipstick

April 22nd, 2008 by Karen 42 Comments

It’s raining out, so I totally ditched going to the gym; instead, I’m at home watching yet another America’s Next Top Model marathon (Cycle 7) and playing with lipstick. I had to take a break from the Melrose madness (anybody else suspect she might be a cyborg?) because in my soul I felt compelled — yes, compelled — to share this picture of Chanel’s Rouge Hydrabase Leopard lipstick ($26) with you.

It’s my civic duty to inform coral lipstick lovers everywhere…

  • how creamy and smooth this formula feels on my lips!
  • how the intense, rich color stays on for hours (five so far, and even through dinner)!
  • how moisturized my lips feel (the formula contains both Vitamin E and chamomile to protect and soothe yer pucker)!

This leopard deserves her big jungle cat name. She’s an awesome, semi-matte golden coral, and she makes me look and feel ready to pounce! Even though I’m looking pretty tow up right now in my stretchy pants (had to have ice cream after dinner) and oversized UC DAVIS ALUMNI t-shirt, with Leopard on my lips I still feel hot enough to stalk unsuspecting man prey. This is my very first Chanel Rouge Hydrabase lipstick, and I predict it won’t be my last. Leopard is the queen of my lipstick jungle, rrraaoooww!

But now… the couch beckons me, so I gotta get back to Tyra, Miss J. and hottie photographer Nigel Barker.

Did you have a good day today? I hope so. What are your plans for tomorrow?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Oh, I loved Leopard! I can’t wear it at all, but it was so gorgeous I bought it for my mom for her birthday! She’s warm-toned and it looks amazing on her! I’m just happy to give it a home! 🙂

I bought the rouge hydrabase in Splendeur, and, oh yeah, it feels so fantastic on the lips! I am fully jonesing for more!

I remember you telling me that! Every mom deserves a lipstick named after a big jungle cat. There should be a rule!

Maybe we should start a Chanel gang. We can just rove around and flash our lipsticks to people to show our affiliation.

    Hi Iheartmakeup,

LOL, maybe I’ve watched one too many sci-fi shows! BTW, dictionary.com is probably my second favorite web site. 🙂

I have two Chanel counter that are literally five minutes away from me by car. UM, DANGEROUS!

Can’t wait to hear what you think about Leopard!

OOh! That is too pretty! I realized looking at my own lippies, that while I usually buy berry colors, most of my glosses are coral-y. I think it’s an unconscious phase I’m in! LOL! So this lipstick looks too adorable!

And BTW, love the green complementary background on that lower pic! (or as my fellow art student/boyfriend would say, “Compsies!!”)

It looks very fierce! I can see how you feel when you wear it hehe. Very attractive color but I don’t think I can pull it off since I’m a cool-tone person.

    Hi Jacks,

Good luck on your chem exam! At least you have something fierce to look forward to after you finish it. Are you ready for your test?

Gotta say I remember nada from my chem days. I have a vague recollection of “chair” and “boat” rings and that’s about it. Oh, and remember titrations, ha ha!

    Hi Mariah,

I do that too, especially with pinks! I actually need more berry shades, now that you mention it!

Aw, thanks! What year are you in art school? Do you enjoy what you’re studying?

    Hi Eru,

Awww, lucky bunny!! If all happiness took was a carrot I’d be passing them out to all of us 24/7!

I don’t know of any pink shades, but when I go this weekend I will ask my homeboy who works at the counter what he suggests. The nicest part about the lipstick (besides the color) is the moisturizing properties, so if you’ve got dry lips like moi you’ll dig it!

    Hi Karen,
In the picture did you use only Leopard lipstick or a lipliner and lip gloss too? You keep making me want to try Chanel. I still have to try Gazelle lip gloss. I’m already addicted to MAC. It would be even more dangerous to be addicted to Chanel.

    Hi Marjorie,

It’s just Leopard lipstick with no liner!

And girl, yeah, I’m here to testify the Chanel addiction is DANGEROUS! 😉

wow, these Chanel lippies are really fantastic lately. 🙂 I haven’t tried any yet, but have “browsed” the website. (it’s too dangerous to go in person, LOL). but I just don’t know if I can spend *that much* on one lipstick. le sigh.

I’m so jealous of your full, perfectly-shaped lips! I swear, it doesn’t matter what color you have on, they always look great. That color is beautiful with your skin. I don’t know about the $26 though… I feel like $20 is probably my max for lippies. Maybe I’m missing out.

    Hi Amanda,

Yah, it’s not budget friendly (Chanel never is, pooh). But there’s just something about busting out that tube with the gold C’s – ahh, I love it. I figure though if you’re going to spend that much $ it should be something you totally love, so maybe if you “visited” just once you’d find something… the formula is hydrating! Big ole plus!

    Hi Kyl,

Aww, thanks girl! There are some colors that look pretty bad on me, I gotta say… some really pale beiges just don’t work! While $26 is kinda steep, I think it’s worth it to have one Chanel lipstick in the stash. This formula is also very long wearing, so technically you won’t have to reapply it often and can make it last longer (lol, okay, maybe that’s just my justification).

    Hi Kate Brian,

I think they are worth the price. I do like Chanel’s quality and am attracted to the “prestige” the brand holds! The lipsticks are great and I hope you try ’em someday. I’ll warn you though – you might be hooked!

This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. So glad you found it for us! I’ve never done well with the pinks and cool colors, and have been looking for an orange that might work. This looks like it – especially because it’s semi-matte (which I love), and it’s got that hint of golden to it. Thanks!
