Finally! Now I know what I was missing in my life… Pictures of a chihuahua wearing a beret in front of the Eiffel Tower! (see below)
Now, this isn’t just some random chihuahua wearing a jaunty cap in front of an iconic structure.
No, this pup has a job. He’s here to demonstrate what the three face powders in the new Too Faced Selfie Powders Palette ($36) are supposed to do for your skin.
Or, you know, fur. 🙂
They’re supposed to work like Instagram filters for your face, with each one producing a different effect.
Sunrise brightens and warms (ooh! — kinda like the Valencia filter), Totally Toasted creates a bronzy glow, and lavender Moon River casts a cool, ethereal light.
Just buff ’em on your skin with a kabuki brush or a face brush, and you can wear the shades individually, or mix them together. Here I’m wearing Sunrise and Totally Toasted mixed together and dusted on my cheeks and around the edges of my face for a soft glow.
I liken these to sheerer versions of the Hourglass Ambient Powders, and by sheerer I mean that I have to apply and buff three or four layers on my skin to see a barely-there, subtle difference.
I like what I see, though. I bet the effects will be even more striking and pronounced on lighter lasses.
If you’re curious, you can find the Selfie Powders online now, and at Too Faced counters and Sephora.
Just look for the beret-wearing chihuahua. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I like the idea of these powders and I swatched them at Sephora but they seemed sheer to me as well. You look so cute though.

I’m a sucker for nude anything (que sneaky grin here) and I think Tres Leches and I would be good friends. I’ve heard great things about this line of lippies. And the price tag is one that my wallet approves of 🙂

I’m not one for selfies, however, I love the look of these powders! I’m quite fair-skinned so they’d probably show up quite well on me.
Beti says
Hm these look nice but I would probably use them on my cheeks, I’m not a fan of shimmer for all over the face. Is the shimmer noticeable in person? Cause they do look nice on you 🙂

Karen, I’ve been reading your blog since way back (like the time you went for a makeoever and the make-up artist described your look as “tropical” :P). Anyway, I want to say that you get more fantabulous every year. Your skin, your makeup, your hair, your writing, and photography skills. I don’t wear much makeup, but I like catching up on your latest makeup reviews, outfit of the days, Tabs updates, food reviews, and random posts. Your personality comes through in your writing (and its awesome).

Wow. Unbelievable you had to layer that much powder to get it to show up. That would not be a good look with my oily skin. This just came off my wishlist. I’d rather cough up the $ for an Ambient compact – or two! The difference these powders make is so tiny, anyway, I’ll probably wait until my skin is in better condition and needs fewer base products before I buy something like this. Just too much stuff to cake on my face!

It seems like they are trying to bite into hourglass’s market. There’s no chance of believing this idea was original. In spite of all that, I’m kinda interested anyway.
Erin says
I think they might be too pigmented for this PPP!

The lavender one is pretty, but I really hate the packaging. I don’t get the whole selfie obsession.
Kiss & Make-up says
I guess it was only a matter of time until they came up with selfie-themed make-up… 🙂 You look VERY photoready in these snps, Karen!

Selfie powders and a barrel wearing Chihuahua. Just thinking about the look on Mr. Locas face while I try to explain why I needed this in my life is enough to make me laugh.
Renae Evans says
I think I’m sold after seeing your photo! I don’t know if it is your lighting, the sun, or the powder themselves but, it looks like a Victoria Secret photo shoot. And, I’m all about that glow. I don’t mind layering because I’m so much of a control freek.
Tatiana says
I want to try these, but I keep forgetting to look at them when I’m in Sephora. Love your selfie photo. I think you look especially gorgeous in pink, blush and coral colors!
Tracy Robertson says
I never climbed up a tree. I thought it would be neat to do so when I was a kid, but I was never athletic enough to be able to pull it off.
Fancie says
Hmm I’m a little leery about this now that you say it’s sheer. Hopefully it’s not too sheer but I’ll have to check it out in person. I like the colors a little more than the Hourglass palette so it’s worth a try
JLeigh says
What are you wearing on your lips in this photo? It’s really pretty!
Deborah Rose says
The selfie powders look amazing on you, you look totally rested and like you are on vacation!
Mary says
Hmm. You say sheer, but I would be curious to see what effect this has on my pale skin – I’m not sure it would suit! Running the risk of looking like a disco ball, a bad tan or potentially ghostly. x

Karen, you are so beautiful, esp in these shots and the nyx lip glosses, just after this article! I love this shirt you are wearing, great color on you. Spill the details!
bf guru says
Karen, how do you like the packaging on this palette. Do you think it can withstand being tossed in a purse?
Liza says
This just seems so gimmicky though i think ill stick with my Hourglass ones! Nothing can ever beat those powders they are like pure angel dust!
Poo@beautyandmakeupmatters says
I love the idea of these selfie powders.. they look so prettyy.. I might need to layer them on my warm skin but still I would love to see the diff they make to my selfies ;)..
You look gorgeous Karen! 🙂
Ankita@corallista says
They look quite fantastic on you (but your skin has been looking so gorgeous lately even without these powders!).
Rebecca says
Karen, what primer and foundation are you wearing in the photo for this entry? Your skin looks amazing. I know 90% of that is your fantastic skin, but I’d love to know how you’re frosting the cake! Thanks!!
Natalye says
I am really curious about these but I don’t know if it would really work for me. I know they’re finishing powders but I wish they were a little more pigmented
Maya says
I LOVE your earrings!! Would you mind sharing where they are from? Thank you!
