When I think of a perfect fit, I picture J Brand skinny jeans or my yellow platform sandals; I don’t usually think of foundation.
But Maybelline hopes to change how we think of “perfect” this spring. Their new line of Fit Me foundations, concealers, powders, blushes and bronzes are designed to make finding your perfect shade that much easier to do.
Today I gave Fit Me Foundation ($8) a try — a liquid foundation designed to even skin tone without feeling heavy or looking like it’s caked on the skin.
After my date with the Fit Me Blushes yesterday afternoon, I thought the foundation would have that same casual makeup vibe.
For starters, it’s available in a whopping 18 shades with SPF 18, and the one I wore around the house today was 320 Honey Beige. The color’s not a great match for my skin tone, but it’s the closest of the ones I have right now.
Easy to blend, 320 covers most of the uneven patches and imperfections on my mug. I’d say the coverage is somewhere between sheer and medium, and it definitely doesn’t smooth as well as my current go-to foundation, Chanel Mat Lumiere.
I love how lightweight it feels, like I’m not wearing makeup at all. Maybelline also managed to keep the matte finish from looking flat.
Fit Me Foundations from the left with the flash: 110 Porcelain, 120 Classic Ivory, 320 Honey Beige and 355 Coconut
Swatches from the left with the flash: 110 Porcelain, 120 Classic Ivory, 320 Honey Beige and 355 Coconut
Swatches without the flash
Unfortunately, Fit Me foundation doesn’t like florescent lights at all, and in the bathroom mirror I could see the product settling into the pores on my cheeks (not cute).
As for lasting power, it isn’t great. After about three hours on my skin, it begins to fade. So while the price is right, and I like the lightweight texture and the addition of SPF, I think I need a little more coverage, and I want it to last throughout the day.
PRICE: $8, available in 18 shades
AVAILABILITY: At drugstores nationwide
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B-
You might like Maybelline Fit Me Foundation if…
- You don’t need need heavy coverage
- You don’t want to pay a lot
- You like lightweight makeup that feels like you’re not wearing anything at all
Speaking of getting fit…
Jillian (Michaels) just called, and she wants me to Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism tonight, but I’d rather relax on the couch and have desert. 🙂
Whenever I pop in that DVD and start with the burpies or skaters, Tabs stares at me like this:
I can only imagine what he thinks I’m doing, LOL!
So what are you up to tonight? I think I see another episode of Southland in my immediate future.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I have trouble trusting drugstore foundations. I know they’re essentially the same thing as my favorite department store brands, but whenever I think of it, I think of that powdery, cakey CoverGirl stuff my mom wears.
I may just try this one because that porcelain shade looks spot on for me.
Solangel says
Hey Karen, have you ever used the Revlon HD foundation? I’mn thinking of trying it, but you and I have similar skintones so it would be lovely to see it here first! Also, this one’s a more random and curious question…what do you do with the products that don’t match your skin tone at all, like Porcelain? Do you give it away to friends/family or what?
dani@callitbeauty says
it’s too bad about this foundation, it did look promising. you should try revlon colorstay! i’d say it’s closer to medium coverage and they have formulations for dry/normal and combo/oily skin.
also, is the clarins giveaway open to canadians as well or is it US only?
Sareena says
Hi Karen,
I have never owned a foundation. I always feel those will make my face look cakey. But i feel i need to give it a try. Can u suggest the best Drugstore one. Also one from MAC..My skin is a little oily. When i wash my face it looks a little dry and i can see very little white patches near my nose and cheeks. But after 3 hours or so it becomes normal. then towards the end of the day very oily. Please help me 🙂
Thanks a lot
BeautyMaven says
Thanks for the review! I had really high hopes for this new line… hrm. We shall see. Ulta currently has them on sale~
Have you found any foundations that like fluorescent lights? I’ve noticed that a lot of times I’ll LOVE the way my face looks in my bedroom (natural light) and then it looks like CRAP in my bathroom. Boo.
OMG JILLIAN MICHAELS. She is evil. Kicks my #@$ every time!!!!! I’m doing the “no more trouble zones” and geez… I hurt for at least 3 days after! Go you!
(PS My cat likes to come up to me and try to lick the sweat/bathe that bad smell off of me while I exercise.. sheesh..)
Jen says
My dog does the same thing when I do my Jillian Michaels, too! Sometimes she gets all up in my face!
Heidi says
Hey Karen,
That foundation doesn’t sound very promising. As soon as you mention settling into the pores — no thanks!
I’m just about to head for bed. I’ve spent my evening watching a DVD set that my best friend sent me for Christmas. It’s performances and acceptance speeches from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies. Some amazing stuff on there. My favorite so far is when PRINCE did a blazing guitar solo on While My Guitar Gently Weeps during the induction ceremony for George Harrison. Whew! Chills, I tell ya!
Okay, Missy’s giving me the “get to bed, woman!” look. Guess it’s time for her and Tabs to set up another of their clandestine webcam chats!
Karen says
Hi Heidi,
What a cool gift! And I can only imagine how smokin’ that Price guitar solo was. He’s all sorts of amazing… what I’d give to get a peek into his creative proces!
Speaking of rock ‘n’ roll, have you heard about the Marin Rocks Exhibit? It should be opening sometime soon in downtown San Rafael:

Heidi says
Ooh, I’m definitely going to have to go check that out!
Dasha says
Hey Karen,
Great review! 🙂 I saw the commercial last night and was curious about the foundation but your review put me off to it. I’m a full time student and I sit under florescent lights almost every day, so I don’t think this product would really work for me. Could you recommend a foundation that looks great under florescent lights? I’ve had a really hard time finding one.
Thanks!
Karen says
Hi Dasha,
What’s your price range?
Dasha says
Anything, really 🙂 I’ve just had a lot of foundations sink into my pores and look either really chalky or cakey or just not right underneath the florescent lighting. I’m pretty pale, so that doesn’t help things out either.
Karen says
It costs an arm and a leg, but lately I’ve been seriously obsessed with Chanel Mat Lumiere:
https://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/product-reviews/chanel-mat-lumiere-soft-matte-makeup-with-spf-15-helps-combo-skin-face-the-day-for-54/
A friend who works as a makeup artist for tv/movies introduced me to it and I really like it a lot. It doesn’t feel heavy, has buildable coverage and looks great in different light settings (including flash photography). It’s super expensive though, so if you are thinking about it then you might want to get a sample first before committing (that’s what I did).
You could also play with different application methods with your current foundation. What I like to do for an all purpose day look is to wet a skunk brush with a spritz of MAC Fix+ and then buff the product onto my face with the brush. Then I set with MAC Blot. This combo stays all day and works well in both natural and florescent light,
Let me know if you have any more questions! I’m always happy to help.
Kelli says
Hey Karen,
Just wanted to know how long that 1oz bottle of chanel foundation usually lasts you? I’m interested in trying it out but 1oz seems like so little for such a hefty price (which will be even more in Canada unfortunately with the conversion)
Dasha says
Thanks Karen! I went to Chanel today to check it out and wore the foundation all day and man, does it look great. Absolutely perfect. Not sure if I want to spend 55 dollars on a foundation, but the lady that helped me out said it lasts for about half a year if worn every day, which I don’t do.
I got a sample to test out for awhile so we’ll see! Thanks again.
Kim says
Well, the upside is that the packaging is surprisingly nice looking. It has a bit of a NARS vibe (at least I thought so). I’ve been really, really happy with my Tarte Smooth Operator – thanks again for suggesting that. And actually I think part of my prob with the LM was that I had the wrong shade (too light). When the gal at Sephora matched me for Tarte, I was very surprised to be Agent 4. I always look like Casper so I assume I’m the lightest shade. 🙂 I guess I also like the smooth feeling of silicone products, too. Though I know a lot of people don’t.
PS I’d say Tabs is thinking “you can keep the exercise, just pass the gravy”. 🙂
Karen says
True, true. The glass is nice and heavy; it definitely feels expensive.
So glad that you like Smooth Operator! I love that one for casual days. 🙂 Do you use a powder to set it? Next time you’re at Sephora you might want to check out
Nina says
i had a hard time matching me to this foundation … im torn between 2 shades. might be a good summer everyday foundation.
Karen says
It does look great in natural light! Might be a good one for outdoor events like picnics and whatnot.
Nina says
its inexpensive enough so that if it doesnt work i wont feel bad about tossing it. 🙂
grocery store tomorrow — snow (or what passes for it) day again today…
Tiffany says
Foundation is one of those things I just can’t manage to get from the drugstore – they always disappoint me.
When I do yoga/pilates on the floor my dog’s main goal becomes running over and checking things out and crawling all over me. he thinks whenever someone is on the floor that’s an invitation to play with him!
Karen says
Haha, what is it with pets and floor exercises? Tabs does the same thing whenever I bust out the yoga mat. He either parks his butt right on the mat or tries to climb up on my chest!
Pets are so loveably crazy!
mint says
I’ve been seeing so many interesting items from this line but it annoys me that we don’t have it here yet. =/ particularly their blushes, they look beautiful. thanks for the post!
Karen says
You’re welcome, Mint. The blushes are great if you like sheer color on your cheeks.
chibu74 says
Thanks sooooo much for the reveiw. I’m surely going to grab it
Karen says
You’re welcome chibu! I hope it works out for you. 🙂
Kerry says
That foundation sounds…bad for me. And I’m normally the lightest shade in any drugstore foundation, but that literally looks white to me! I’m pale, but not THAT pale…
Do you have an Aldi near you? I’m in love with the Lacura foundation. It’s $3.49 at my Aldi and is the best foundation I’ve ever used. I’ve never bought anything high-end, but I’ve had samples, and Lacura totally pwns. There isn’t a huge shade selection, though.
Karen says
Hi Kerry,
Nope, I’ve never heard of Aldi. Is it a drugstore?
Kerry says
It’s like a discount grocery store. They don’t carry a lot of brand names, but everything’s super cheap. So, they won’t have Apple Jacks, but they’ll have Apple Rings or something. It’s kinda cool – you have to pay 25 cents to use a shopping cart, but you get your quarter back once you return the cart.
Kerry says
Nope, it’s like a discount grocery store. Instead of having Apple Jacks, they’ll have Apple Rings or something. Occasionally they’ll have M&Ms instead of “candy-coated chocolates,” but not often. You also have to bring your own bags or pay for paper or reusable. You also have to pay 25 cents to use a cart, but you get it back when you return the cart (like an airport!) I guess it’s how they keep pricing down. 🙂 The foundation is seriously awesome, though. It’s honestly the best I’ve used.
Paintthetownscarlet.wordpress.com says
Such a shame that this foundation does not fit the bill. I love MAC’s studio line foundation because it gives great coverage and stays put all day and night – maybe they should stick with their best!
Karen says
I’ve heard that works great for some people!
lia says
awww, I had high hopes for this one, but I guess it wasn’t meant to be 🙂 thanks for your review!
Karen says
You’re welcome, Lia. Have a great Friday!
Rachael says
I think this “fit me” collection fell flat…I’d stick to their “dream” collection if you like this brand. The concept is great, but execution needs work. In the drugstore world of cosmetics there are plenty of other brands that can fit anyone at any price.
Karen says
Hi Rachael,
There are a couple other items from the line that I’m still looking forward to checking out (the powder and the blush). Hopefully something will stand out!
Happy Friday!
Rachael says
From the “fit me” line?
Eileen says
When it comes to foundation, which essentially provides the canvas for your “look”, drugstore brands in general just don’t make the grade. This is one case where you definitely get what you pay for. True, there are misses amongst the department store brands as well, but overall their quality is much, much better. If I were on a budget, I’d scrimp on shadows, glosses, and the like, but buy a good foundation. Nothing is more beautiful than soft, even, luminous skin.
Emma says
I don’t love the sound of this foundation but I do love Jillian Michaels. I have her Yoga DVD and I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks. I’d recommend it. I even got hubby to do it and he said he was sore for a couple of days because he used muscles that he’d never used before! My cat’s always take it to mean that it’s fussing time and end up getting squashed or knocking me over 🙂
Crystal says
So glad you reviewed this, I was going to try it out because I love the idea of there being a great drugstore foundation. I love Revlon Colorstay but it smells horrible. I just can’t get past that!
Tavi says
Hey Karen,
Thanks for reviewing this. I love drugstore makeup but can never find good foundations. I thought this new line would be really good (all the advertising made me want to try it!) but I think I will stick to my trusty mufe and mac! 🙂
courtney says
it’s funny the maybelline fit me makeup says its for all skin types, but i tried every one and couldn’t find a shade to match my skin!
kana says
Happy Friday lovey! I love the packagin of this product. I usually go to the gym mid day and have to reapply my foundation so it not working all day is okay with me. I think I’ll check this out! The only thing I don’t enjoy about drugstore products is that there are no testers!! oh poo to that :p have a great weekend!
elizabeth primo says
hi karen… what you are saying is true.. but i still like the foundation, because i use primer everyday anyways, so it stays all day. i find that it changes colors around 6 hours later.. i look a tad darker for some reason. i thought it was the light, but i tried it again and agian and it still does it…so i like it for those days that i want to just lounge around the house and dont feel like putting on a $40 foundation on and wants to look pulled together incase i need to run some errands…the price is sweet… 😀
Nicole O. says
Thank you for this review! I was thinking about getting this but looks like I’ll have to pass. For me, no drugstore foundation has beat Revlon ColorStay yet. I just wish they fixed the packaging. A pump would be great.
My Funny Valentine says
This looks pretty good for a drugstore foundation. I’m on the hunt for a new foundation actually, much as I love my NARS Sheer Glow. Might give this a try!
Meghan says
I was going to give this a try.. but I like long lasting foundation!
stacie says
I got all excited when I saw the colour of 110 a perfect winter shade for me possibly. Then I saw dimethicone *Yuck* and light coverage *yuck* and settles into pores *yuck* and only last 3 hours *yuck*
F- Maybelline must try harders
xoxox
stacie says
Harders? I meant harder 😀
Tammy says
I just clipped a coupon for this so I’m willing to try it for that price. And Walgreen’s usually has Maybelline products with some type of BOGO deal.
Kristen says
I have this foundation, and love it. I heard its geared towards people with dry skin, so if you have oily skin this might not work. But I could be wrong. I use this paired with the pressed powder and I gives me nice coverage for 5-6 hours.
Jen says
I was surprised with how light the Porcelain shade is! I only need light coverage, so I think this might be something I want to check out. I have very light, pale skin and am forever searching for something to match me perfectly.. and heavy foundations really get on my nerves. Thanks for review, I might check this one out. 🙂
Hannah says
I really like the design of the packaging!
Stephanie says
Too bad of the foundation.. This is the second review(out of two I red) of the foundation that is not very positive about it.
Kendra says
One of my friends tried this foundation and didn’t like it very much either. The packaging is nice though.
Ashley says
I actually have used the Maybelline Fit & I love it!! I am a 320 also & it matches my skin perfectly. I used to be a MAC girl until I got sick of spending crazy amounts for my foundation & concealer. I use it almost every day when I go to work & I still look the same 9 hours later when I get home. I wish I could put a pic on here. So sorry it didn’t work for you. Everyone who I’ve told to use it has loved the product.
