This may sound a little selfish, but I sure hope Tarte adds their new emphasEYES Aqua Gel Eyeliner in Shimmering Indigo to their permanent line, because I love the way it looks with brown eyes.
The pigmented purplish blue gel liner, a QVC exclusive shade (you get not one, but TWO for $25), comes in a twist-up pencil, making it more convenient than most gel liners.
According to Tarte, half of the product consists of water — with minerals, as well as vitamin E, cucumber and aloe suspended within it — and judging by how creamy and moist the liner feels along my lash line, I believe it.
It also shimmers on my eyes in a way that makes it look to me like late afternoon light reflecting on the surface of a pond, ah…
I’ve worn a few of Tarte’s other emphasEYES Aqua Gel Eyeliners (regularly $18 apiece), but I remember my eyes tearing up when I wore them on my water line. Bizarrely, I haven’t had that problem with this shade at all.
My biggest concern is how quickly I think I’ll go through this pencil because, like the other colors I’ve tried, it’s so incredibly soft. But I guess that makes QVC’s two-for-$25 deal look even better.
Tabs wanted me to congratulate Tarte for making the product cruelty free, but I’m torn on account of cruel they were in making the formula so deliciously soft that it probably won’t be long before I’ve worn it down to a nub. 🙁
And even if you don’t have brown eyes but feel like taking a break from your basic black liner with a top-notch tinted shade, Tarte’s Shimmering Indigo might be a neat treat.
PRICE: $25
AVAILABILITY: Exclusively at QVC.com.

Victory! Friday at Last!
Good morning and happy almost-weekend, friend. 🙂 How’d you sleep? I hope you got in some good shut-eye.
It’s mornings like these when I wish we lived closer together and could grab a coffee and gab about our weekend plans. Drop in when you can and let me know how you’re doing on this fine Friday mornin’.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Pretty! I wish I could wear deep blue shades like that, sigh! My blue eyes take to green-tinted shades a little better than royal blues.
I have today off, so I’m doing research for a music paper (read: lots and lots of reading and listening to awesome music). I finished up an abstract to send to a music conference this morning – hopefully it rocks their socks off and I’ll get accepted! 🙂 This is the first conference I’ve tried to submit anything to, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Maybe, just maybe, if I get lots and lots of work done, I’ll be able to reward myself with some shoe shopping… 🙂 hehe.
Karen says
GURL, you know I have a weak spot for shoes. Maybe I’ll reward myself with a pair if I can get my stuff together today. For the life of me I can’t seem to concentrate. What shoes are you thinking about?
Oh, and good luck with the music conference! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!
Shannon says
I reeeeally want a pair of black mid-calf/knee-high boots. I’m totally crushing on Blowfish’s Hadiyah boots. My only reservation is that they’re pull-on, and I want boots that will stay up on their own.
Karen says
That could be a potentially big issue. Having to constantly pull those suckers up would be a major pain!
Kim says
I think this shade would be good for green eyed gals like me too. It’s darker and more purple than I’d expected!
You said it about Friday at last! Unfortch for me, the boys have an 8 AM hockey game tomorrow about 1 hour away from home so we’ll be up at about 5:30. On a Saturday! Up again early for religion (for them) on Sunday and then a 2 hour drive to their afternoon game. Ah, hockey. 🙂 I hope your weekend is more restful. On a happy note, I’ll be skipping out of work early today to grab some dinner with the Hubs, (get the boys’ skates sharpened) and catch True Grit.
Lastly, have you seen the commercial for Pajama Jeans yet? I think you should put that in the Monday poll. Yay or Nay? You may be surprised by my answer! 😉
Karen says
Oh my. You’ll be up with the chickens tomorrow! Do you have your early morning beauty routine planned?
BTW, True Grit is really great. I saw it last week and really enjoyed it!
And, er, I have come THIS CLOSE to buying a pair of those Pajama Jeans. Are you seriously thinking about getting them? You get a free t-shirt with every order, LOL!
Good luck to the boys at their game tomorrow! I hope they win!
Kim says
Thank goodness I totally misremembered that game time. I didn’t have to get up until 8, not be at the rink by 8. Thank goodness!
We really liked True Grit too. I thought it was better than the original, which I’d also liked. This is the first movie in ages that the Hub didn’t complain about. We were definitely laughing about the witty dialogue. 🙂
Oh, get them! Get them!! I’m dying to hear what they’re actually like! I am the queen of sweats and fleece, as you know. And that free shirt might have put me over the edge if it had been a v-neck!
Thanks! The boys actually won both their games this weekend. They’re on a roll!
Emily says
Thinking about trying the Plum for my green eyes!
Looking forward to snow this weekend, hot yoga and cuddling up in front of the fire watching football with the husband 🙂
Karen says
Everybody’s watching football this weekend, it seems!
How long have you been doing hot yoga? I tried it once a looong time ago and want to give it another go.
Emily says
Honestly, only about 2 weeks, but I am addicted! I love how I feel afterwards, just sweating out so much junk feels great.
You should definitely give it another go!
Karen says
The one time I went I felt really claustrophobic, but that’s probably because of a combination of the tiny room size and the heat. I have a few friends who are addicted to it though, so I think I’ll try it again! 🙂
Nina says
y’know me — im all about eyeliner pencils …. i <3 this color!!!
Karen says
This one is extra cool because you don’t have to sharpen it (hello LAZY!).
Did you pick up your MAC goodies yet from the Pro Store?
Nina says
theyre sending it over to the MUA who helped me get them. i should be getting them this weekend! 🙂
no sharpening = awesome!!!
Karen says
Oh nice! Better prepare your Sonia Kashuk bent brush! 🙂
Nina says
ready and waiting! 😀
Karen says
I tried applying Siahi with a few different brushes and of course that one worked the best.
Got any plans for the weekend yet?
Nina says
quiet weekend — were about to eat some burgers now.
the hubs wants indian food tomorrow; and i need to do grocery shopping and take some pants to be shortened.
thats bout it… there are several parties going on but im passingon those.
how bout you???
dani@callitbeauty says
LOVE the colour!
right now, i’m using UD’s 24/7 pencil and i’m afraid i’m going to use it up in no time 🙁
Karen says
That is the major drawback with these — you’ll burn through them FAST, no doubt.
Kate Williamson says
I love indigo liner on brown eyes! Sadly, though, I have committed myself to a no-buy resolution for the next three months. I have to pay off Christmas! It is such a bummer considering all the new collections out.
Not much going on this weekend. The fam and I are going to the Chinese New Year celebration at the Japanese Cultural Center out in town. They usually have their thing a month before Chinatown. It makes New Year last longer and there’s never any scheduling conflicts between activities! It will be a fun beginning to the Year of the Rabbit. Apparently, all the Asians on the island who want to have kids are waiting for April to get pregnant so that they can have Dragon babies. I am happy, though, with my little Rat and Tiger! haha!
Karen says
That sounds like fun. I bet they’ll be lots of good food, huh?
Wait… I just realized that I’m the year of the rabbit! The only reason why I know this is because I’ve read it on many restaurant placemats. 🙂
Tracy says
I am so in love with anything navy or indigo lately. I hope they make this available at Sephora.
Someday, I would just LOVE to grab a coffee with you and chat about the weekend, life, zombies… 🙂
Karen says
We could talk zombie strategy. I’ll have to tell you now, though — I don’t think I’m down for smearing myself with blood and guts so we can walk through the city streets among the undead! I hope that’s okay.
Tracy says
Hahaha-me neither, so totally okay with me. We could do our makeup to look like zombies instead!
Karen says
Sounds good. I’ll bring the fake blood…
Tiffany says
so, I’m kinda annoyed with Tarte over this QVC exclusive-ness!
I actually slept like crap. apparently leg cramps are common in pregnancy. waking up to a terrible leg cramp is so not fun. I hope you got lots of sleep and were insomnia-free!
Tiffany says
p.s. what are you wearing on your cheeks? you look so pretty and glowy!
ooh, that reminds me, I just got my prep + prime powder! what kind of brush do you use to apply? a big fluffy powder brush or maybe a kabuki?
Karen says
That’s Becca Grapefruit:
https://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/product-reviews/the-becca-beach-tint-trio-holiday-gift-set-smells-like-fruit-salad/
You’d look really pretty in this color, methinks. It also smells really good.
As for Prep + Prime, for pics I use a Kabuki and for every day looks a big, fluffy brush.
Tiffany says
Thanks for the info, doll! I wish sephora still sold becca. I have wanted to try one of their pressed shimmer powders forever.
How’s your Friday going? I was completely unproductive. It was an awesome mail day though – got my MAC and sephora (primer overload!) orders! And I had called nordies when my MAC cham pale order arrived without the free bag with samples I was supposed to get as a GWP, and so they sent me 2 sets (lol!) which arrived today too. Woohoo!
Karen says
Me too. I’ve always liked their aesthetic and vibe and was CRANKY when Sephora pulled them off the shelves. Remember when Sephora stocked indie and hard to find brands? I feel like now they’re appealing to a younger and younger market.
This morning I was pretty unproductive, but now the ball is starting to roll! 🙂 I hope to finish my work in time to work out and then maybe go to a movie.
Have you opened up and played your Primer Overload Package yet? LOL
Tiffany says
yah, I feel ya. I miss CARGO too 🙁
sometimes I forget that you are three hours behind me! you still have so much day head of you!
I have a little bit! I’m really excited to try out Greed tomorrow! and I was way disappointed in the size of the Bare Escentuals primers 🙁
Karen says
Me too! They just need to add it to their permanent line already!
Sorry to hear you about your leg cramps. 🙁 That does not sound like fun.
Trisha says
I love twist-up eye pencils. I prefer them over stuff I have to sharpen, especially since it seems like you lose some of the product when you sharpen it away.
Trisha says
Also… I think you’ll be pleased to know, Karen, that I finally started reading the Hunger Games. I’m not that far into it yet, but I already see why it’s so popular. But I keep thinking about how sad you were after you read the last book. It makes me oh-so-wary.
Karen says
Just wait until you make it to the end of the series. You’ll be completely emotionally exhausted.
The book’s being made into a movie, btw. The guy who directed Seasbiscuit is doing it!
Chris25 says
I don’t think you’re selfish for wanting Tarte to add this to their line. I am a dark eyed girl and I love purplish-indigo liners! I have to try Prestige’s blue liners once I get a job and can afford to buy makeup again.
If you lived in NYC, I would invite you over for chai tea and my famous homemade sugar cookies.
Karen says
Tabs and I would take you up on that in a hot second. 😀
Chris25 says
Rock n Roll & Jazz would love a new playmate!
Karen says
You’ve got me craving chai and cookies now. I have some powdered chai in the house… no cookies though. *tear*
What do you have planned for the weekend?
Chris25 says
I have to continue job hunting, buy new living room curtains, and work at a photo shoot on Sunday!
YJ says
Oooooo, I’m always on the prowl for new liners! I dunno about ordering through QVC though :/ I’m still wary of online shopping… ha!
I hope its warm where you are! I woke up cold this morning and I can’t seem to warm up today! Have a great weekend!!
Karen says
I wish it was warm out my way! It’s crazy overcast and cold here today.
Is the sun out at least where you are?
chanel says
Oooooo…I WANT!!!!! That color would work really well with my eye color and skin tone as well. I have a love hate relationship with soft products. I love how smooth they go on but like you mention they wear down a lot faster.
Karen says
Me too. I get annoyed with how fast they wear down, but I love how they don’t tug or pull at delicate skin!
Heidi says
This shade looks wonderful! Indigo is such a great shade for everyone, it makes the whites of your eyes look whiter, therefore you look more awake!
Just got back from Macy’s, specifically the MAC counter. Got FIVE of the new Mega Metal Shadows! Just couldn’t narrow it down any further!
Karen says
Nice! What colors did you get?
Heidi says
I picked up Prance, Tweet Me, Noir Plum, Mating Call, & Spectacle of Yourself.
applepark says
I just bought 1 of these at Sephora for $18, so $25 for two is a good deal. But there is *very* little product in these. I was disappointed. Stila’s version has twice the amount of product for $20.
Karen says
Hey Applepark,
Are you referring to the Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liners? I still have yet to try those!
applepark says
Hi Karen,
Yes those are the ones I’m referring to. I have been so out of the loop with Stila for some time now. Someone recommended them to me a while back but I dismissed them. But when I went to swatch them with the Tarte at Sephora this weekend, I was shocked at how pigmented they were! I swatched a few shades on my hand of both products. I couldn’t get either off with a tissue. Then I got home, washed my hands with soap and water and the Tarte came off.. but the Stila was STILL THERE! Then I did the dishes, no gloves, still there!! It only came off with oil cleanser.
Those are my next purchase! 🙂
I do like how the Tarte ones are paraben free and all that jazz though.
Robin
Advah says
Hmm this colour is lovely. I too love blue eyeliner on brown eyes (I adore my BBrown navy gel liner), it’s veery flattering.
Happy Friday everyone! It’s just started snowing again this evening, which is a relief in a way. It’s been SO COLD here lately (a max of -3°C today!) that at least the snow makes it look pretty and not just cold!
Going to spend the weekend with a book, good old series (been obsessively watching Remington Steele for a few weeks) and tea and cookies. Just need a cat or two (or three) on my lap. 🙂
Karen says
Remington Steele! I remember when that was on the air. I never got to watch it because it was way after my bedtime though. That Pierce Brosnan… hello!
What book are you reading?
Advah says
It was on TV every summer when I was a teenager, it’s still as good as I remembered (albeit delightfully 80s). And yes, hellooooo indeed! My flatmate wants to wean me off the show, I’m starting to think shoulder pads and jumpsuits look awesome. Although the main girl does have some pretty cool outfits..
Bill Bryson’s Notes from a small island! Ever read any Bill Bryson before? It’s my first one and it’s really entertaining! Next on my pile are short stories by Joyce Carol Oates, but that’s way too heavy for early January. 😀 Are you reading anything good at the moment?
Ellie says
That’s gorgeous! I have brown eyes too and I was looking for a liner just like that. Do you know a drugstore/MAC dupe for it? I don’t want to shop online, and I got a MAC giftcard for Christmas, so that’d be easier for me.
Makeup Morsels says
wheww seriously TGIF… The color is pretty, but I’m always on the fence where twist-up liners are concerned. I can never get them quite as sharp as I would like them to be (I like thin lines).
mkdallas says
I just bought 2 of these and LOVE the formula. They couldn’t be easier to apply and they really stay put once they’re on. I do love the way the indigo looks on you!
C.Diff says
Want! Tarte’s founder graduated from Binghamton like me, so I justify these things by saying I’m supporting a fellow alumna. Yeah.
Marcia says
Need to look for these, they do look good. What stores can you buy them in? Hopefully I can get them here, I generally use Boot’s no7 range.
